What is beer?

“Beer is produced by the saccharification of starch and fermentation of the resulting sugar. The starch and saccharification enzymes are often derived from malted cereal grains; most commonly malted barley and malted wheat. Un-malted maize and rice are widely used adjuncts to lighten the flavour because of their lower cost. The preparation of beer is called brewing. Most beer is flavoured with hops, which add bitterness and act as a natural preservative, though other flavourings such as herbs or fruit may occasionally be included.” Beer definition

Beer is the most consumed alcoholic beverage in the world and the third-most drink overall after water and tea.

The strength of beer is usually around 4% to 6% alcohol by volume although it may vary between 0.5% (dealcoholized) and 20%.

Beer forms part of the culture of beer-drinking nations and is associated with social traditions such as beer festivals, as well as a rich pub culture, involving activities like pub crawling and pub games such as billiards.

History

The history of beer is linked with the one of its components and with the technological advances. The first cultures of cereals, especially the barley and wheat, were discovered in Mesopotamia and dated at around 8000 years before J.-C. Historians think beer was discovered 6000 years before J.-C. The first real proofs of its existence were discovered in the province of Sumer and are back to the 4th millennia before J-C.

The term of “beer” we know today was invented by Duc Jean Sans Peur, who also imposed the use of hops to make beer. In 1435, an edit imposed this recipe.

The industrial revolution brought many evolutions to the beer production. Baudelot de Sedan invented, in 1856, a cooler allowing producing beer all year long, Hansen identified the yeast and Pasteur advocated the…...

Be Nice to Her - Essay

...Be Nice To Her - Essay “Be Nice to Her“- is the title of the short story first published in Canada 1984. The title is an often mention quote in the short story. The quote is a recommendation that the 8 year old main character, Elizabeth, received from her mother. A recommendation that quickly escalated to a request, and finally an order as she kept disobeying her mother. She failed to adjust to the order her mother had commanded due to many regular fears that the mind of a child can have - the primary ones in this case being: Group pressure and the fear of one day becoming the victim. The author, the narrator and the main character is the same person, her name is Elizabeth. Elizabeth was kind of chubby and in addition to that she wore glasses. The nickname, sucky, had sticked to her ever since kindergarten because she enjoyed sucking her thumb. She had reached the third grade, and the mild form of bullying had died out over time. Luckily for Elizabeth the chances of getting picked on again was very slim - an even chubbier, shorter girl with bigger glasses was in her class, her name was Celia. Besides not having the ideal look and personality to fit into her third grade class, she was also diagnosed with diabetes (at this point in time an incurable disease). Her class mates didn’t want to play with her during recess, only if she agreed to be the ender when they were skipping. After school the other girls didn’t want to walk with her, they always outran her. They didn’t......

Priority rules are regulations which determine in which succession the orders in front of a production line should be worked (Stevenson 2011, p. 712). In deciding what priority rules to acclimate, an organization such as Hi-Ho Yo-Yo, Inc. should achieve the following objectives: 1. Meet due dates of the customers if the product goes directly to them or the downstream operations if the product is but an input of another. 2. Minimize the time the order spends within the process including wait time. 3. Minimize work-in-process inventory which inevitable ties resources which can otherwise be used in more productive activities. 4. Minimize idle time of both machine and human resources. Given these objectives, Hi-Ho Yo-Yo, Inc. can choose from different priority rules and some of the most popular are as follows: (Retrieved from table 16.2, Stevenson 2011, p. 712). Perhaps Hawkins has a different definition of desire than Napoleon Hill, who calls DESIRE “the seed of all achievement.” But what would I know, my I’ve been living somewhere between Fear and Apathy. The Rise of the Nice Ceo?

...Case study: The Rise of the Nice CEO? 1. Do you think Sutton is wrong and that the contrasting fortunes, and penalties, of Nardelli, McNerney, and Immelt are coincidental? Why or why not? • No, I don’t think Sutton is wrong. Contrasting Nardelli’s, McNerney’s, and Immelt’s fortunes and personalities are not coincidental. Management that uses negative connotation or implementation doesn’t create good and efficient environment for their employees. To acquire good quality result CEOs must able to consider their personality in the workplace. CEOs are the leaders of the company. But it doesn’t mean they can be cruel and too bossy to their rank and file employees. CEOs as the head of the company must be able to relate or communicate to their employees well in order to implement his ideas regarding to the company’s better progress. Also CEOs must have the capability inspire their employees to be more productive and efficient. Basically people will actually obey or follow the commands or orders of the people who are actually nicer or considerate. Like in McNerney and Immelt’s situation who are more approachable and understanding to their employees. They acknowledge their employees opinion to improve the company’s strategies. On the other hand, Nardelli’s, he has this tendency of having a bad temper and notorious management. Employees aren’t willing enough to do a favor or take orders from him. That’s why the productivity of the company tends to decrease. Therefore, employees......

Nice Trap

...Case Incident 1 The Nice Trap? In these pages we’ve already noted that one downside of agreeableness is that agreeable people tend to have lower levels of career success. Though agreeableness doesn’t appear to be related to job performance, agreeable people do earn less money. Though we’re not sure why this is so, it may be that agreeable individuals are less aggressive in negotiating starting salaries and pay raises for themselves.  Yet there is clear evidence that agreeableness is something employers value. Several recent books argue in favor of the “power of nice” (Thaler & Koval, 2006) and “the kindness revolution” (Horrell, 2006). Other articles in the business press have argued that the sensitive, agreeable CEO—as manifested in CEOs such as GE’s Jeffrey Immelt and Boeing’s James McNerney—signals a shift in business culture (Brady, 2007). In many circles, individuals desiring success in their careers are exhorted to be “complimentary,” “kind,” and “good” (for example, Schillinger, 2007).  Take the example of 500-employee Lindblad Expeditions. It emphasizes agreeableness in its hiring decisions. The VP of HR commented, “You can teach people any technical skill, but you can’t teach them how to be a kindhearted, generous-minded person with an open spirit.”  So, while employers want agreeable employees, agreeable employees are not better job performers, and they are less successful in their careers. One might explain this apparent contradiction by noting that......
