In Priestley's "Wrong Ism", he claims that nationalism is not the strength that binds a country together, but rather all of the small local areas we are all accustomed to growing up in that gives us strength. Priestley considers nationalistic ideas and movements to be headed by people who have a love of power and who have left out their regional ties. They no longer have feelings for the areas they came from and any loyalty developed over their lifetime is watered down. Priestley feels regionalism needs to be given more credit. He assumes it provides us with roots and a sense of attachment to our community which affect people's lives in such a way that it creates a unique bond that can be very hard to break. So in a sense, regionalism shapes our identities and I agree with his assumption that people view themselves more as part of their region rather than a part of their nation.
Loyalty to one's region can be compromised when individuals allow national power and greed to destroy their roots. There are many examples of how nationalism tries to take over a region to destroy its people. For instance genocide, in nearly all examples, has been started by a power-hungry national figure who has an agenda in mind that never takes into account what a local area's wish might be for their future. Hitler is an example of this type of authoritarian oppressor who had a very complex national strategy in place to exterminate the Jews. He certainly did not consider or recognize regional differences in Europe, but rather put forth his own agenda. Genocide is on a whole different level than all other crimes against humanity. The circumstance I will describe shows how Priestley's concept of internationalism also comes into play showing how our global watchdog agencies, such as the UN, can be slow to respond to an atrocity
For the most part, the UN has avoided and has not responded to…...

Why Its Wrong

...: Why it's Wrong How would you feel if someone took away your ability to live? Imagine not having any say in whether or not you want to have a life. Well babies don't have a choice in their mother’s womb. If a woman decides to abort her baby, they can't do anything about their life being taken away from them. Their whole future is demolished. I believe abortion is wrong when committing it for a selfish reason. One reason why abortion is wrong is because there are many other safer solutions. In the article, Why Do More People Choose Abortion Over Adoption?, Kristi Burton Brown stated: “In the USA, there are approximately two million infertile couples waiting to adopt, many times regardless of the child’s medical problems such as Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, HIV infection or terminally ill. Dr. Brad Imler, President of America’s Pregnancy Helpline, confirms the challenge of waiting couples by stating: Only 1% of the Helpline’s annual 40,000 clients inquires about adoption.” Putting him/her up for adoption will give them a better chance at a happier life rather than abortion. The solution for a baby should not be death. If it was for a selfish solution, you're sacrificing a life many other families would love to raise as their own. Another reason why I don't support abortion is because it can harm the mother as well. You are highly risking the mother's life and affecting her. Not only does it have an effect on the USA but, it affects other countries as well like Spain.......

Current Economic Outlook Positive signs, but beware! Manufacturing is expanding at its fastest past in 2 ½ years, but will that translate into economic growth and new jobs? The unemployment rate is at its lowest since December 2008. Good news? Not really, the details to the latest payroll report are not pretty. October 1 ISM Manufacturing Index What the ISM indicates Monitoring the ISM Manufacturing Index allows us to understand the current economic conditions. Financial Markets are extremely sensitive to this index. Stock markets should increase when the index increases because of higher corporate profits. In bond markets the opposite usually occurs, due to the sensitivity of potential inflation. ISM also measures the degree of change across manufacturing, and is an indicator of GDP Growth. Current vs Expected The ISM showed that its Manufacturing Index grew for the 52nd consecutive month as the PMI came in stronger than expected at 56.2% in September, versus a Bloomberg consensus estimate of 55.0%. That shows an increase from 55.7% in August and the fourth straight increase in the index. A reading above 50% indicates growth. ...When I got my new car I went out and bought protective license plate covers for my new license plates. They are a little tinted but you can see my license plates perfectly. When I got pulled over for having slightly tinted license plate covers I realized that laws like that are a waste of time and cops should worry about more important things. I had an appointment to get a facial - it was a present from my parents for good grades. I rarely get such a treat so I was excited and I left extra early for the appointment. As I was driving to my appointment that morning I spotted a cop car behind me. I got nervous, but I knew I wasn’t doing anything wrong. I was going the speed limit of 30mph but the cop was tailgating me, so I sped up to 33mph and sure enough the cop pulled me over. I thought to myself that going three miles over the speed limit is hardly grounds for a speeding ticket. Two cops came up to my windows; one cop staring me down at my passenger side window; the other at my driver side window asking me for my license and registration. I was nervous but confident that I wasn’t doing anything illegal. The cop at my driver’s side window said to me, “Did you know your tinted license plate cover is illegal?” I told him no, I wasn’t nervous anymore but a little annoyed. I couldn’t believe I was getting pulled over for such a little thing. I was also hoping that I wasn’t going to get a ticket. So, I told him, “I’m sorry I’ll take them off when I get home.” ...

...” my vocalist Brandon chuckled out, “but I mean a majority of even the popular bands that go on a tour can not find a place to sleep every night so we can always just crash out in a Wal-Mart parking lot.” From my viewpoint, I could see my band member’s faces in the reflection of the rear view mirror as they all spoke about what they wanted to do at the upcoming shows; their eyes getting bigger than the cities we headed to in excitement. I still just sat there; having this profound realization in my mind while a smile slowly sprouted across my face. Over the course of 4 years, I spent more time alone in my room, sitting in an old desk chair wrapped up in duct tape to keep it from falling apart like a science experiment gone completely wrong. My summers involved not going outside to play with all the other kids, but in that room trying to perfect my craft. I began more time playing guitar in that seat writing music than I did socializing all throughout high school. I wore the same outfits every week because every penny I managed to scrape up went towards the recording studio or towards buying new music equipment. Most birthdays or holidays, I asked for money instead of gifts to put towards any costs that the band would need to do anything. I started teaching myself graphic design and doing all of my bands promotional needs as a form to save money. For years, my music was my life. If I did not spend my day doing something to move the band forward, I spent it brainstorming......

...little did he knows it was my plan. The topic of discussion is more about how stupid his teenage children are then ways to detach my leg from this monstrous rebar crate. Then my dad said, “Ok, max pull it out.” Max resisted “Never she is going to bleed out” “DO IT NOW” my father strongly commanded him. Max more distraught over this then I was quickly pulled my leg back. Tired and weak I couldn’t hold myself up; luckily I had Hannah to hold me up. Max carried me to the car as my eyes rolled back into my head. Thankfully it was a two-minute drive to the emergency room. That was possibly the longest half-mile drive of my life. “Why” that is what I remember asking myself over and over again in the emergency room. Not knowing what was wrong with my leg yet. I thought of how this stupid decision will affect me in the future. That was the problem, I never thought twice before I did stupid things like this. After this life experience I can look down at my leg and revaluate what am I about to do. I ask myself: What is in it for me? Will this negatively affect the people in my life and myself? It is as easily as those two questions! If I say yes to just one of those, I know it is not the right thing to do! Everyone has made very dumb, ‘in the moment’ decisions. Some for the better or some from the worse. We all can say we have been able to look back and actually re think our choices we are about to make. This is all because of one decisions were we didn’t double think our......

It was a fad of sorts on the internet, and then one fateful day, one of my “internet pals” got annoyed with my “internet speak” and just went off on a huge rant about it, basically implying that I looked like an idiot. Needless to say, that made me feel dumb, and by that time I could touch type and type fairly fast and fairly accurately, so I decided “Hey, if that grammar Nazi doesn’t think I can type legibly, I’ll prove that arrogant jerk wrong!” So, I did pretty much. Granted, I was still extremely awkward verbally. Spouting random, stupid phrases for cheap laughs. Laughs that were probably at my expense. However, this lead to me actually being forced to write in proper spelling and grammar. Thus, I went from making grammatical mistakes like Eureka Pizza’s sign that said “Try our baked ravioli’s. Their delicious.” to actually making sure my sentences had correct spellings and such. Or trying to anyway, I still haven’t gotten that down. Due to the fact that everything on the internet is written, I got quite a bit of practice in it. Eventually, I got into writing through various attempts at other things on the internet. I read some of the things my friends had written,......

Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM) approach: An Overview Rajesh Attri1, Nikhil Dev1 and Vivek Sharma2 2 Department of Mechanical Engineering, YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad, INDIA Department of Mechanical Engineering, Advanced Institute of Technology and Management, Palwal, INDIA 1 Available online at: www.isca.in Received 27th November 2012, revised 27th January 2013, accepted 1st February 2013 Abstract Interpretive structural modelling (ISM) is a well-established methodology for identifying relationships among specific items, which define a problem or an issue. This approach has been increasingly used by various researchers to represent the interrelationships among various elements related to the issue. ISM approach starts with an identification of variables, which are relevant to the problem or issue. Then a contextually relevant subordinate relation is chosen. Having decided the contextual relation, a structural self-interaction matrix (SSIM) is developed based on pairwise comparison of variables. After this, SSIM is converted into a reachability matrix (RM) and its transitivity is checked. Once transitivity embedding is complete, a matrix model is obtained. Then, the partitioning of the elements and an extraction of the structural model called ISM is derived. In this paper, key concept of ISM approach is discussed in detail. Keywords: ISM, SSIM, RM, variable, modelling. Introduction It is......

Universally Wrong

...UNIVERSALLY WRONG Dionne Harris SOC120: Introduction to Ethics & Social Responsibility (ACG1318A) Instructor: David Jung May 13, 2013 The idea of what is moral has been a debated question for many years. With all the different cultures and beliefs in the world, there is no real understanding of what should be considered wrong as a whole. In the article “Some Moral Minima”, Lenn Goodman argues that there are a number of areas that he considers morally wrong for the universe. My belief is that there are areas such as murder, rape, terrorism and physical abuse that are just wrong period; however in certain circumstances those areas may be justified. In the article Goodman states that everyone should be free to live without being subject to inhumane treatment (Goodman 2010). Many cultures hide behind relativism as a justification for committing immoral acts. According to our textbook relativism is “the view that one's beliefs are conditioned by one's culture, society and or community"(Mosser,2010). A person’s background and up bringing shapes the way that individual views morality. Goodman believes murder is wrong because ‘it destroys a human subject (Goodman 2010). I have to agree that Murder is wrong although there are a few ways to justify certain forms of murder. . Regardless of what you believe, no one has the right to maliciously take another person’s life. Goodman goes on to say that war is wrong but it is necessary in order to protect the life of......

Ism Code Influences Maritme Risk

...2. How has the ISM Code influenced maritime risk management/managers? The ISM Code was a reactive response to maritime disasters, particularly the Herald of Free Enterprise. This instrument is a regulatory device which prescribes uniform principles and rules to be applied worldwide pertaining to safety at sea. The ISM Code is incorporated within Chapter IX of SOLAS and introduces a safety orientated concept known as safety culture. The main objective of the ISM Code is to administer safe practices in ship operation within a system of reporting and audits; also, prepare for emergencies that relate to safety and environmental protection. Section 10 of the ISM Code (Maintenance of the Ship and Equipment) requires that companies establish procedures in the Safety Management System (SMS) to hold inspections of equipment and technical systems at various intervals. Pursuant to sections 1.2.2(.2) and 2.2.1(.2) of the ISM Code, maritime risk managers are subject to the construction of various risk assessments. The ISM Code has created a bureaucratic labyrinth for maritime risk management (MRM)/managers, which is laced in a plethora of written procedures and instructions for numerous onboard operations. These consist of routine activities which include cargo operations, navigation, and other repair activities such as dry-docking. Bhattacharya (2009) explains that risk assessment was recognized as the key characteristic of the SMS following a comprehensive study of......

Wrong Man

...wrong man THE MAN had no useful work, only vagaries of various kinds. Therefore it surprised him to find himself in Paradise after a life spent perfecting trifles. Now the guide had taken him by mistake to the wrong Paradise-one meant only for good, busy souls. In this Paradise, our man saunters along the road only to obstruct the rush of business. He stands aside from the path and is warned that he tramples on sown seed. Pushed, he starts up: hustled, he moves on. A very busy girl comes to fetch water from the well. Her feet run on the pavement like rapid fingers over harp-strings. Hastily she ties a negligent knot with her hair, and loose locks on her forehead pry into the dark of her eyes. The man says to her, ‘Would you lend me your pitcher?’ ‘My pitcher?’ she asks, ‘to draw water?’ ‘No, to paint patterns on.’ I have no time to waste,’ the girl retorts in contempt. Now a busy soul has no chance against one who is supremely idle. Every day she meets him at the well, and every day he repeats the same request, till at last she yields. Our man paints the pitcher with curious colours in a mysterious maze of lines. The girl takes it up, turns it round and asks, ‘What does it mean?’ ‘It has no meaning,’ he answers. The girl carries the pitcher home. She holds it up in different lights and tries to con its mystery. At night she leaves her bed, lights a lamp, and gazes at it from all points of view. This is the first time she has met with something......

...scope statement should include a project justification, a brief description of the project’s products, a summary of all project deliverables, a statement of what determines project success, and references to supporting documents. 4. Describe different ways to develop a WBS and why it is often so difficult to do. You can develop a WBS by using guidelines, the analogy approach, the top-down approach, the bottom-up approach, and the mind-mapping approach. It is difficult to create a good WBS because each WBS is unique based on the project and the team. 5. Describe a project that suffered from scope creep. Could it have been avoided? How? Can scope creep be a good thing? When? The FoxMeyer Drug project described in the What Went Wrong on p. 167 provides a good example of a project that suffered from scope creep. This problem could have been avoided if the managers had focused on business needs first and not the technology. Scope creep can sometimes be a good thing. For example, if you are working for a consulting firm getting paid by the hour and a project continues to grow in scope, your firm will have more work and can therefore make more money. Another example would be when scope creep results in a much-needed feature or product that wasn’t originally planned for. 6. Why do you need a good WBS to use project management software? What other types of software can you use to assist in project scope management? The tasks in a Gantt chart should be based on a......
