RECOMMENDATION FOR HELP DESK
A Help Desk is a centralized resource that is normally staffed by IT professionals who provide users with the support they need to do their jobs more effectively. Help Desks do not replace IT maintenance and support activities, but so enhance productivity and improve utilization of our company’s resources. Our help desk should have three objectives: 1) show people how to use system resources more effectively, 2) provide answers to technical or operational questions, and 3) make users more productive by teaching them how to meet their own information needs.

Software Associates

...She will then identify actual and expected quantity. The actual number of consultant hours exceeded the expected number of consultant hours. Then Jenkins subtracted the actual amount of hours from the expected amount of hours and then multiplied by the expected labor price of $90. Jenkins found that Software Associates made a total of $278,100 when providing the extra amount of hours billed. This is favorable for Software Associates if the billing rate was $90 as expected; however the average rate per consultant amounted to $83.69. Next, Jenkins determined the average billing rate variance by subtracting the actual price from the expected price. She then multiplied the difference in price and the quantity of work done. Jenkins found that they had a deficit of $246,090. This is unfavorable because Software Associates is losing money due to the actual rate drop from $90 to $83.69. When Jenkins compared the variance of both quantity of hours and hourly rate, this gave her the total revenue variance of $32,100. The total revenue variance is also the difference between the actual revenue and expected revenue. Over all, it is favorable that Software Associates created more revenue. Jenkins then determined whether or not the additional revenue would cover the additional costs incurred for the excess consultants. Jenkins used the same method for consultant expenses. By subtracting the actual number of hours supplied (50,850) from the budgeted number of hours......

Zaird&Associates

...You have been with Zaird & Associates for approximately three months and are completing your work on the BizCaz audit. BizCaz produces pullover knit shirts to address the business casual market for both men and women. Although your experience has been limited, an unexpected staff resignation has resulted in your working directly with the engagement's in-charge senior on inventory. This has been a learning experience for you, because you have helped perform various tests of controls which may be summarized as indicating that internal control over inventory (including the perpetual records) seems strong. It is your impression that those tests resulted in a decrease in substantive procedures, thereby allowing a particularly efficient audit. At the beginning of the audit, Jan Wheeler, the in-charge senior, told you that the management team of BizCaz has always been helpful and friendly. Throughout the audit you have found the situation to be as good as described. In fact, BizCaz allows each auditor to purchase up to three shirts at a particularly attractive price of $12 per shirt, the cost for which employees may purchase shirts. The shirts have a market value of $50, although the direct labor and material costs of each shirt are only $10. Near the conclusion of the audit, after you and the other three staff members paid the controller and told him your sizes, he walked to the warehouse, removed 12 shirts from the appropriate piles, and brought them out. That evening you gave......

Steely Associates

...Steeley Associates Monica Beamish Quantitative Methods – MAT 540 Dr. Hesh Ansari May 3, 2013 Steeley Associates Inc., is a property development company. Steeley had purchased a house build in the mid-1800, and had been leasing it to the State University for academic office space. In 2008, the lease on the property expired and Steeley Associates, after consideration, decided to build high-density student apartments. This decision would optimize the full space site. The community was opposed to this proposal and contacted the town’s legal counsel, who informed Steeley they would reject any request for permits. After a series of meetings, Steeley proposed three suggestions on how to handle the property. The suggestions were to request the permit to build student apartments, to sell the property outright and finally request a permit for a low-density office building. Based on the data, the best decision for Steeley Associates for the property is to attempt to build the student apartments. If the permit is approved Steeley could earn $3million. The Expected Monetary Value or EMV is $1.821 million. As indicated by the town council there is only a 10% chance of the permit being approved. Since there is a 90% chance the permit is rejected, the next step Steeley would take is to sue the town. Legal fees would cost Steeley $300,000. The EMV does lower to $1.69 million because of the legal fee costs, and the time it takes to sue......

She also asked me to comment on these issues: legacy data, Web-centricity, scalability, security, and batch processing that might be needed. ...is not exceptional for people with an international career. People who work in the IT sector have to travel a lot as well. Even scientists have several conferences in different countries. All in all, it is clear that an international career comes with both advantages and disadvantages. It allows people to discover new places and thereby get new experiences. Yet, it also demands from the employees to stay away from home and have a certain language capability as well as several other qualities. I personally would reject an international career because I believe that it requires too much of oneself. The major disadvantage, in my opinion, is that you are not able to live at home. However, for people with the ambition of travelling while working at the same time, an international career might be something worth pursuing....

Quality Associates

...Hypothesis Quality Associates, Inc. is a consulting firm that advises its clients about sampling and statistical procedures that can be used to control manufacturing processes. In one case, a client provided Quality Associates with a sample of 800 observations that were taken during a time when the client's process was operating satisfactorily. The sample standard deviation for these data was .21, hence, the population standard deviation was assumed to be .21. Quality Associates then suggested that random samples of size 30 be taken periodically to monitor the process on an ongoing basis. By analyzing the new samples, the client could quickly learn whether the process was operating satisfactorily. When the process was not operating satisfactorily, corrective action could be taken to eliminate the problem. The design specification indicated that the mean for the process should be 12. The hypothesis test suggested by Quality Associates follows: H0: μ=12 Ha: μ≠ 12 Corrective action will be taken when H0 is rejected. Samples collected during the first day of operation of the new statistical process-control procedure are in the file Quality.xls. The URL to this dataset is A.
