Chapter 1
(Alexandria’s POV)
Naging close kami agad kahit first day pa lang. “So that’s all for today, you can go now.” Sabi ng prof namin sa English which is our last subject for today.
“Ui. Alex, una na ko sa’yo ha? May imi-meet kasi akong friend eh.”
“Oh sige ba. So, kita kitz na lang tom?”
“Oo naman! kita na lang tayo sa may labas ng room natin bukas.”
“Okay, sige. Bye!”
“Bye!”
“Here.”
“Ay, thank you!”
“So, uhm.. ka blockmate ba kita?”
“Ahh. Siguro? B35 ba section mo?”
“Yup. Nico nga pala. Nicholas Carter.”
“Ahh. Alexandria Guevarra. Pero Alex na lang.”
“Well, Alex. Nice meeting you ”
“Ikaw rin ” at binigyan niya ako ng “killer smile” na hindi ko malilimutan. Dahil bumilis ang tibok ng puso ko.
Pagkatapos nun umalis na siya. Grabe, ang bilis ng pangyayari. Kanina lang nahulog yung ballpen ko. Tapos ngayon natulala na ako dahil sa lalaking nakapulot ng ballpen ko. Bakit kaya? Ano bang meron sa kanya? Oo, aaminin ko. Gwapo siya, at yung ngiti niya… Ohmy, I feel like I’m going to melt. Ooops! Walang ibig sabihin yun. Wag kang assuming. Fine. Fine. “Ano yun? Love at first sight? PBB teens?!” Hmp.
“Nico?”
“Ui. Alex! Ikaw pala. Sorry, nagmamadali kasi ako eh, hindi kita napansin.”
“Ah. Hindi, okay lang naman ako. Okay lang yun.”
“Ano nga palang ginagawa mo dito?”
“Dito ako nakatira eh. Ikaw ba?”
“Talaga? Parehas tayo. Dito rin ako nakatira eh. So saang floor ka?”
“4th floor. Room 30.”
“Wow. 4th floor din ako. Room 22.”
“Eh di floormates tayo . “
“Yup. Ahm, una na ako ha. May pupuntahan pa kasi ako eh. Nice meeting you again.”
“Oh, cge. Ingat ka ha! Bye.”
“Thanks! Bye.” At yung ngiting yun nanaman. It kills me.
Humiga ako sa aking kama and I found myself smiling. “Nakatira kami sa iisang building. Same floor pa. Blockmates kami this term. This must be destiny!” At dahil sa sobrang pagod nakatulog ako.…...

...divide each beat into two parts, the accents in jazz often fall on the second half of each beat. Furthermore, they appear irregularly; you do not tend to see the second half of every beat accented equally: Note the accents in this example occur within the melodic line. One of the characteristics of bebop in particular is the use of short, accented offbeats at the ends of phrases: Another aspect of syncopation has to do with which beats are emphasized. In other types of music, when there are four beats per measure (as is most common), beats one and three are usually stronger than two and four: In jazz, at least since the Swing Era, beats two and four - the "offbeats" - often feel stronger than one and three: All four beats are still played, but beats two and four are accented slightly. This is sometimes referred to as a four-beat rhythm. When two and four are accented especially heavily, it is sometimes called a "backbeat" rhythm: The early jazz musicians often strongly accented beats one and three, however, with bassists and drummers playing almost entirely on these two beats, and pianists or guitarists supplying chords on the offbeats: This is referred to as a "two-beat" rhythm. Modern jazz musicians will often use a more subtle two-beat feel at the beginning of a performance, such as while playing the theme, and then switch to a four-beat rhythm for the solos. Swing When people discuss rhythm in jazz, they almost invariably deal with the concept of......

...BOOK REVIEW UNKNOWN * Didier Van Cauwelaert Previously known as OUT OF MY HEAD Translated from the French by Mark Polizzotti This novel was made into a movie titled Unknown in 2011 (hence the re-publication of the book under that title), directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Liam Neeson, Frank Langella, and Bruno Ganz This is a suspense thriller full of suspense. Once you start reading the suspense goes on increasing. But still author has created too much of confusion in the novel like skipping from one scene to another directly. The story end was also very quick. Since this novel is translated from French it has increased the confusion. Otherwise everything is good. Those who want to read something good can choose this novel. The story revolves around the man named Martin Harris a well known botanist who meets in an accident when he comes to Parris with his wife Liz. ...murmured against God, tempted God, and fell into fornication and even idol worship. You would be tempted to think that someone who had seen such amazing miracles right before their eyes, would certainly not fall into such a state of sin and rebellion. But wait! For in verse 11, Paul makes an amazing statement: "Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come." The lessons Paul talks about are given for your admonition and mine! We need to realize two things from this statement: 1) we are being warned that we should not fall into the same state of sin as our forefathers and 2) We are being told that the words of the Old Testament Scriptures are still for us today. All of the stories of the Old Testament were given for the last generation of people on planet earth! A good Bible verse to look at in conjunction with this is 2 Timothy 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteous- ness:" As important as the last words of the book of Revelation are, just so important are the first words of the book of Genesis. Having stated this entire let us look at Deuteronomy 7:11-15 Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them. Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that......

...Women have been participating in wars for many years in different types of ways. In the past it was illegal for women to physically fight in the war but many found their way to help pitch in. Many women disguised themselves as men fighting in combat; some created organizations to support soldiers with forms of aid and donations of food and supplies, and others volunteered on a more personal status sending items to soldiers they knew. It is only recently that women have been considered to take part in direct physical combat which still holds strong oppositions. Women, who are enrolled in the army today, are still not equally treated. They are suffering from being sexually assaulted, discriminated against in high roles, and given poor primary and reproductive healthcare. There should be a change in the availability of opportunities for women in service, fair recognition of their hard work, and they should be given equal rights. Today women in the military face many unjust things one of the leading problems is sexual harassment. Military sexual trauma is the experience of sexual harassment or completed sexual assault during military service. This occurs in both male and females militants. Based on research from the National Virginia Military Sexual Trauma Surveillance Data, approximately one in five women veterans receiving universal screening at a Veterans Health Administration facility reported that they experienced military sexual trauma. In an overall survey they......

...troops in order to protect the country from being over taken by the Taliban. It appears that Obama is rather moving the Iraqi war to Afghanistan rather then aiming towards peaceful negotiations that include brining our soldiers home. Obama's plans for Iraq and Afghanistan do not appear to be holding true to his original proposals in his campaigns or aiding America’s relations with the Middle-East. Despite Obama’s success in stimulating jobs through his Recovery Act the policy has unfortunately done little to change the unemployment rate even with the increase in jobs or decrease our budget deficit. The unemployment rate remains at a high of 10%, which means that even though American’s are given the opportunity of more jobs, companies are still letting go employees. Companies are not able to hold onto their workers because of the lack in productivity and revenue. Stockmarkets are concerned that the governmental programs in the stimulus such as aiding infrastructure, education, and the environment are not going to benefit the “unemployed and poor” (Ewen, “Obama Signs $787 Bill”). The government is generating an incredible amount of spending that is driving up taxes and possibly creating our economy to slump further into debt. According to Republican leader of the House of Representative John Boehner the economy is “[spending] a whopping $275,000 in taxpayer dollars for every new job it aims to create, saddling each and every household with $6,700 in additional debt”......

...location is in a predominately African American populated area, now that my name is out and my customers have told their co-workers and friends about me, I can make new clientele with new other races. Wake Forest offers a mix of different ethnicities and class. I would still want to reach my initial target audience of working class women who want to look fashionable on a budget. But in Wake Forest, I can offer a few higher end shoe selections, as well as introduce some of the more cost effective shoe selections. Even women with money, like to save money. This new location would offer the same accessibility to handicapped patrons and employees, but I would have my own parking lot for the store. The Louisburg location is located in the heart of downtown, whereas the Wake Forest location will not be. Wake Forest is more rural than Louisburg, but they get more street traffic than Louisburg because it is next to a major city, Raleigh NC. Chase 2 will have around the clock security, because the police station is located on the same block. I will be able to offer later store hours and not have to worry about the safety of my employees or patrons. Not that the store is in a high-crime area, but the fact of the matter still remains that the later the business hours the greater the risk of being robbed. Finally, I chose Wake Forest for the new store location because the town offers more money for minority businesses. Being an African American and a female, the grant from the town......

...difference of 14,23 (CITE Exhibit 1 and 5). Costco blows BJ’s Wholesale out of the park in every common category. Before looking into these exhibits I had no idea what BJ’s Wholesale was and seeing the financial compared to Costco’s I can see why. They must not be very well known, like Costco is. Maybe BJ’s Wholesale should be doing analysis like this so they can get a few pointers from Costco. When reviewing Exhibits 1 and 6, I found some statistics that proves Costco’s financial performance is more superior to BJ’s Wholesale. It’s astonishing how big the net sales difference is between Costco and BJ’s Wholesale, in 2011 Costco’s net sale was %87,048 million compared to BJ’s net sale of $10,633 million in 2011. BJ’s Wholesale is still growing which is good; hopefully in the future they can become more of an competitor to Costco and Sam’s Club. Another financial statistic that shows how much more dominate Costco’s financials are to BJ’s Wholesale is the total revenue in 2011. Into the Unknown

...A critique of “Into the unknown” published by the economist (November 13, 2004.) Fear of losing jobs to offshoring (rise in unemployment), but computers and technology may take these jobs anyway. “Has the machines in its last furious manifestation begun to eliminate workers faster than new task can be found for them?” Article says not to worry. The United States has experienced an increase in the offshore outsourcing (offshoring) of jobs in the service industry. Although offshoring is common in the manufacturing industry, it only recently began in the service industry. The recent increase in the service industry has occurred because of new technology and the ability to access information from anywhere. Those who oppose offshoring believe it takes away American jobs, lower wages, and causes declines in America’s standard of living and any benefits from offshoring are unevenly distributed. Offshoring in the industry has not negatively affected the United States. Currently, offshore outsourcing in the service industry has a net benefit to society and there is no reason for concern. Critics charge that the information revolution (especially the Internet) has accelerated the decimation of U.S. manufacturing and facilitated the outsourcing of service sector jobs once considered safe, from backroom call centers to high level software programming. (This concern feeds into the suspicion that U.S. corporations are exploiting globalization to fatten profits at the expense of......

...A critique of “Into the unknown” by The Economist Nowadays, the change in production technology make many workers worry because of its effects. However, almost of them forget that the changes that bring bad effects (destroy jobs) also make good ones (create new jobs). It may be a chance for someone but be challenge for others, we do not know. All predictions can become true or not. It depends on supply and demand in the labor market, possibility of workers to adapt with the change of the world. In “Into the unknown” The Economist states that “this change in production technology has the same effects as automation”. Actually, many firms and companies fire their workers and replace them by new machines or foreign workers with lower-paid. Many workers who is fired think that the change in production technology is terrible because it takes their jobs away. However, according to the economist “What the worriers always forget is that the same changes in production technology that destroy jobs also create new ones”. The reason here is that when companies replace their workers by new machines or lower-paid workers, the cost decrease while the profit increase. It causes the growth of demand for new goods and services then creates new jobs that have not been invented yet. Furthermore, these changes require economies renew workers to create more value. On the other hand, The Economist states that all predictions can be hazardous because the effects on jobs of these......

...Natural Ice Cream Shop Jennifer Kremer ACT305 – Principles of Managerial Accounting Colorado State University – Global Campus Instructor Edward Balli February 1, 2015   Jenny’s All Natural Ice Cream Shop The problem with ice cream products today is unhappy, milked to death cows. In 1946, a cow was grass fed, had milk output of 2 gallons of milk per day, and lived an average of 15 years. Modern cows are grain fed, produce 8 gallons of milk per day, and live an average of 18 months. All flavor and rich texture of real ice cream is lost in modern cow milk production. The history of milk production has led up to this poor excuse for ice cream. Ice cream is the quintessential cold treat that keeps the world going round, yet has an unknown point or origin or originator. History determines ice cream to exist as far back as 200 B.C. The bible references King Solomon’s fondness of sweet iced drinks during harvesting periods. Alexander the Great preferred honey and nectar flavored snow treats. Claudius Caesar was known for sending runners into the mountain for snow, later flavoring the snow with fruit juice. Sherbet ice cream was first recorded in the 16th century as a treat brought to Europe by Marco Polo from the far east. (IDFA, 2015). Most notable was Cream Ice, a favored dessert of the court of Charles I in the 17th Century. Historians state King Charles I paid a handsome salary of 500 pounds per year to chef DiMirco for keeping the recipe a secret. DiMirco kept the......

...in monetary terms, such as $5,000. Assets can have both tangible and intangible values. The tangible value is the actual cost of the asset. The intangible value is value that cannot be measured by cost, such as client confidence. Generally acceptable accounting principles (GAAP) refer to client confi dence as goodwill. Imagine that your company sells products via a Web site. The Web site earns $5,000 an hour in revenue. Now, imagine that the Web server hosting the Web site fails and is down for two hours. The costs to repair it total $1,000. What is the tangible loss? •  Lost revenue—$5,000 times two hours 5 $10,000 •  Repair costs—$1,000 •  Total tangible value—$11,000 The intangible value isn’t as easy to calculate but is still very important. Imagine that several customers tried to make a purchase when the Web site was down. If the same product is available somewhere else, they probably bought the product elsewhere. That lost revenue is the tangible value. However, if the experience is positive with the other business, where will the customers go the next time they want to purchase this product? It’s very possible the other business has just gained new customers and you have lost some. The intangible value includes: •  Future lost revenue—Any additional purchases the customers make with the other company is a loss to your company. •  Cost of gaining the customer—A lot of money is invested to attract customers. It is much easier to sell to a repeat......
