1. When it came to the battle a the Alammo theadvantages and disadvantages weapons. The mexican army was clearly the bigger army of the two but they lacked weapons. Even though the quality of their weapons were more advance then the Texans, they could provide the quantity for such a massive army. The texans with so many weapons, were able to hold off the Mexicans for so long. The Texans major advantages were their cannons. The Mexican army were prepared for a face to facae battle with a bayonet attached to their guns; but, the Texans cannons defended them off till ammo ran out. The Texans' guns weren't quality machines and were able to use anything as ammo. With the short numbers the Texans had, the safety of hiding behind fort helped also prolong the war.

2. 1. Did Travis wear a uniform? I believe that he didn't wear a uniform. It is mentioned that a body was recovered with the name Travis but the outfit looked to be homemade. With lack of time and resources I can't see Travis actually having a uniform unless it was made from his own hands. 2. Did Travis Commit Suicide? Before I read this book I could't believe that any man on the Texan side would take their own life. These men battled to their death and never thought of surrender. So when the rumor of Travis stabbing himself before capture was said, I immediately didn't believe it. More evidence shows that he was shoot in the head in battle. 3. Did David Crockett Surrender?
I think David Crockett died fighting, being the noble person that he was wouldn't live without being free. I also believe that Santa Ana would make a mockery of the capture of Crockett with David being such a huge leader against his army. His capture I think would be shown to the world to show not to mess with Santa Anna's army. The president didn't have that reaction to the slaughter because he didn't get to humiliated the Texans the way he would of wanted. 4. Was there any Survivors?
Originally their was said to be no Texan survivors. A famous quote was, "Thermopylae had her messenger of defeat; the Alamo had none." This statement made most peoople believe no one lived; but, n reality there were survivors. There were nearly twenty woman and chlideren who saw everything but hid for the twelve day siege. The known Alamo survivor was Susanna Dickinson; she was sent to Gonzales by Santa Anna with a warning to the Texans that the same fate awaited them if they continued to revolt.

4. The Battle symbolized our two political parties. The Texans were more like the Republican Party. They are straight forward with what they want with being independent. Republicans are straight to the point and use what they have with the least amount of out sourcing. The Texans had to use what they had. Where the Mexican army remind me of the Democratic Party. They are not about one stern path and certain people or issues can help the cause. They believe in help and support of the whole nation, and with help of everyone the cause will be fulfilled.

5. I believe that these men knew the cause was bigger then living so giving up their lives for the cause of freed was worth the self-sacrifice. They were fighting for not only Texas but this new nation trying to show what they believe in. Three men that stuck out to me the most were William Travis, James Bowie, and Davey Crockett. These men could of ran out of town before the army arrived but they stayed and fought side by side with fellow followers. None of them wanted to die but they knew their cause of death would help show the fight for freedom is worth self-sacrifice. These were average men that weren't soldiers but took on the duties of leading other average men to fight for what they believed in. These men were brave and they will be remember and honored by all Texans forever. exactly what they were doing. They made these decisions because they took pride in what and who they were fighting for. All of them are honored and admired for their amazing courage and ability to take on such a great responsibility.…...

The Alamo: Thirteen Days of Siege

...interference in Mexican affairs, and he then ordered that no prisoners be taken; they were to be executed immediately (Scott, 2000). When the Mexican troops left San Antonio de Béxar, Texian soldiers established a base at the Alamo, a former Spanish mission that had been converted to a temporary fort (Edmonson, 2000). The Alamo had been designed to withstand an attack by native Indians, but not a well equipped and trained army (Edmonson, 2000). The complex spanned 3 acres, burdening the soldiers with almost 1,320 feet of wall to defend (Edmonson, 2000). The perimeter walls of the complex were nearly three feet thick and varied in height from 9–12 feet (Myers, 1948). To compensate for the lack of firing ports in the walls, Texian engineer Green B. Jameson built catwalks to allow the defenders to fire over the walls (Edmonson, 2000). Mexican forces, in their rush to leave, had left behind 19 cannons which Jameson installed along the walls. He boasted to Sam Houston, commander of the Texian Army, that the Texians could "whip 10 to 1 with our artillery" (Hardin, 1994). Despite Jameson’s confidence, the Texian fort was vastly under-manned and under-supplied, with fewer than 100 soldiers remaining by January 6, 1836 (Todish, 1998). Colonel James C. Neill, the Alamo commander, wrote to the provisional government requesting additional troops and supplies, stressing that the fort was likely unable to withstand a siege lasting longer than four days (Todish, 1998). At this time, the......

Remember in Autumn

...REMEMBER IN AUTUMN Once upon a time I was watching leaves fall off trees looking to fly away. A cold wind blew by making the leaves dance. It was cold so I went inside were I made some hot chocolate. I heard a screech of tires outside I went outside to see whats there. A girl and her son were sitting on the curb looking lost. I asked why they were here the girl said “we needed to go to the hospital to get my son here checked out.” I felt bad for her so I let them inside for a little while. She told me her name was Amanda and her son’s name is Will. Will had leukemia. He had dark brown hair that was half way gone and giant sparkly blue eyes. I told Amanda that my mom was coming home soon so they could get a ride with them. Amanda called a tow truck while i played with Will. Will was strong. Stronger than anyone i ever knew. My mom finally got home and drove them to the hospital. About 4 months later i found out that Will got surgery and is at the hospital. Amanda called saying i could see Will. I left at about 3 in the morning to see him. When i got there i saw those sparkly blue eyes watching me. He told me about the kids who played with him and how all the nurses would compliment him on his hair. I was surprised at how happy he was. About a hour later he was discharged from the hospital so i asked if he could go to the park with me. We headed for the park and we played for what seemed like forever when we had to leave. He slept over that night and we jammed out......

Remember

...Lauren Hillstrom MW 2:30 12/17/12 Option A Final Paper: Remember “Remember” by Christina Rossetti is a sonnet written in iambic pentameter. Her poem follows the structure of an Italian sonnet, one divided into an octave and sestet. The author’s thought process is portrayed through the rhythmic divide of her poem. The octave rhyming ABBAABBA directly pleads a loved one to remember her when she is gone. Then the following sestet rhyming CDDECE creates a shift in atmosphere, where she realizes the mortality of memory and would rather her love one be happy than mourn in the misery of her death. The fourteen lines altogether portray themes of love, fear, and death. With dark and sad undertones, the words “you” and “I” are used frequently showing that the poem is a dialogue speaking directly to a loved one. Throughout the poem she uses anaphora, such as repeating ‘remember’ at the beginning of several sentences. In the first line “Remember me when I am gone away”, she is speaking to someone in a direct form asking to be remembered when she is no longer here. Thus, the idea of separation is introduced here. At this point, we cannot tell if she is embarking on a journey, leaving a relationship behind or what calls for this separation between her and the person she is speaking to. Following, in the second line, “Gone away into the silent land”, the word ‘gone’ is used as a euphemism for death by using silent land as a metaphor for heaven. This imagery of heaven reveals the......

Remember the Titans

...Gloria Bicolli Remember the Titans HRD 363 Midterm Tuckman and Jensen 1977 Tuckman and Jensen model focuses on the development of internal relations among the team members. There are 5 stages, Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing and Adjourning. The movie Remember the Titans was very inspiring especially because it is based on a true story. This movie showed all of Tuckman’s 5 stages. Stages of Group Development The first stage is forming; this is when members get to know one another. This is one of the most important stages. In the movie, this occurs when all of the football players are in the gym ready to meet Coach Boone. All the different race groups were together. In this interaction, the athletes have come together for the first time, they are unsure of their roles on the team, and they are also unsure what to expect from each other and the coach. Coach Boone asks Petey whether or not he likes football. The coach is very directive he tells the team “This is no democracy”. (YouTube) After they went to Gettysburg College for Camp, the coach made them sit in the same positions they had on the way to camp. This was one of his ways to form the team. The team walks to camp together, this is the first time we see them grouped whites and blacks together as a team, which signifies they have finished the forming stage. The second stage is storming; this is where all the conflicts and disagreements happen although the majority of the movie conflict occurs......

The Alamo

...THE ALAMO I chose to write about the Alamo because I watched this movie when I was younger and wanted to watch it again now that I have a better perspective on the history that took place in the Battle for the Alamo. The movie takes place in San Antonio in early 1836, 6,000 Mexicans marched to The Alamo to fight a group of patriots of 187 strong; they were led by Colonel William B. Travis. During the 10 days of fighting, the Mexicans fought and fired their cannons until they were able to climb over the walls of The Alamo., to defeat the patriots. Among the dead were frontiersmen Davy Crockett and the Bowie brothers. This paper will explain how John Hancock interprets the history of the Alamo, along with the characterization of William B. Travis, Davy Crockett, and Jim Bowie and finally the cinematography of the movie of the story of the Alamo. Colonel William B. Travis was a main character of the Movie. Travis was commissioned as a lieutenant colonel of the Legion of Cavalry and became the chief recruiting officer for a new regular Texan army. Governor Henry Smith ordered Travis to raise a company of professional soldiers to reinforce the Texans under James C. Neill at the Alamo Mission in San Antonio. On February 3, Travis arrived in San Antonio with eighteen regulars as reinforcements. A compromise was reached between Bowie and Travis for command of the Alamo; with Bowie in command the volunteers and Travis in command of the regulars. When Bowie's health began to fail, it...

The Alamo

...Priscilla E. Leibel US Hist 1301 Professor Kennedy The Alamo May 4, 2014 Word Count 1073 The Battle of the Alamo is considered one of most important battles in Texas History that occurred February 23, 1836. This battle took place in San Antonio, Texas during the Texas Revolution. The Texas Revolution began in 1835 due to the conflict between the United States immigrants and the Mexican government. The Immigrants were wanting to start their own republic so they decided to revolt against the Mexican government. After several successions, the Texian Army had gained control of the territory, but later lost it at the Battle of Coleto and the Battle of the Alamo. On February 23,1836 Santa Anna and his troops arrived at San Antonio and started planning their attack on the Alamo. This would become one of the most celebrated military battles of Texas. The Alamo was a Spanish Mission that was established in 1718 as church. It became a makeshift fortification for Indians and rebels. Since the Alamo was also centrally located, it became a crossroads for siege and battle. When the Commander of the Alamo, William B. Travis realized that Santa Anna and his Mexican troops had surprised them at the Alamo, he decided to write a letter asking for help from men in Texas communities. Having not seen any help arrive for several days, he finally on day 8 got 32 more volunteers to help them which brought their number to almost 200 volunteer defenders. ......

The bad boy is Landen Carter while the young woman is Jamie Sullivan. Landen has a group of friends that make fun of Jamie but, in the middle of the movie Landen falls in love with Jamie during a play. Let me start from the beginning of the movie. In the first part of the movie they have one of their new inductees “Walker” jumps from a stand about 50 feet from the air, he does a belly flop. When he hits the water he just floats there in the water and does not turn over for air. Then Landen climbs down from the stand and jumps in the water to help Walker to get him on dry land. Then the cops show up and all of them bail except for Landen helping walker to dry land. When Walker sees the cops he tells Landen that he could go and get out of here. So Landen leaves Walker on the wooden deck by the bug pond for the cops to find him. When Landen gets in his car he is being chased by cops while his friends get a clean getaway while Landen is trying to shake to cop off his tail. Landen takes a wide turn and crashes into a barrel of water and has crutches for his leg the next day. The day Landen returns to school the principal calls Landen into his office. The principal says that he has to be in the play, tutor students, and clean the school or he will be expelled. While his friends don't...

Remember the Titans

...Introduction In the movie of Remember the Titans, development is the key aspect of the story. The change that takes place in the Virginia suburban was the integration of black and white people. This change affected the whole community, school as well as the students in the football team. We as organizational development consultants job was to oversee the change that happened in this community and to manage this change to help the people that are going through this change. Firstly it is important to know what is meant by organizational development. It is a planned process of developing an organization to be more effective in accomplishing its desired goals. Organisational development can also be defined as a theory and practice of planned, systematic change in the attitudes, beliefs, and values of the employees through creation and reinforcement of long-term training programs. Organisational development is action oriented. It starts with a careful organization-wide analysis of the current situation and of the future requirements, and employs techniques of behavioral sciences such as behavior modeling, sensitivity training, and transactional analysis. Remember the Titans

...Remember the Titans Jessica Valentine SOC 318 Sociology of Sport Dr. Marnie Carroll May 18, 2015 Remember the Titans Our general public has truly and still right up 'til today managed a large number of issues that significantly separates societies, organizations, associations and all the more essentially individuals. Sports can in a flash be put in this classification when matters identified with isolation, race and ethnicity are interrelated. I have chosen the film "Remember the Titans" to examine the effects of the previously stated as they relate to sports all through this paper. In 2000, Remember the Titans was an American sports film focused upon fanciful African American football mentor Herman Boone who was depicted by super star Denzel Washington. This motion picture was not just one of the top rated and enthralling films of its year, however offered groups of onlookers a complete representation of mutual activities and leads in the lives of individuals like themselves. Using our text to break down and thoroughly describe the movie in regards to realistic conflict theory, cultural theory and racism all of which plays into the factor of sociology of sport. Prejudice is the amazing conviction that races have unmistakable attributes and inherited variables, and, likewise, certain races are better than others. The realistic conflict theory suggests that contentions between two distinct gatherings will emit as the gatherings contend over the same constrained assets...

Structure: Due to desegregation, the structural norm of an all-white high school, coaching staff and football team, soon changed when a new head coach was appointed. * Org. Culture: In the beginning, everyone was out for their own self interests. The school board was trying to sabotage Coach Boone. Both coaches were out to make a name for themselves (Boone: Up and Coming/Yoast: Hall of Fame). The team members had their own initiatives (to get their desired positions). While white members of the community were waiting for failure, the black members longed for a figurehead. The coaches, team, and the community struggled to understand and except one another. The mentality was “This is how we do things around here”, but that was all about to change. * Org. Climate: At first everyone lacked motivation to put forth the effort of trying to work together. For example: Boone took offense & Yoast took defense. The team captains weren’t showing any leadership and the community members were extremely divided. Racism and football was the backdrop for the clash of leadership styles and personal perspectives that each man had to learn and understand from each other because they all shared one common goal, to become a winning team. * Team Building: At camp when...

Writing to Remember

...April Horrocks EN2010 November 10th, 2014 Angels September 5th, 2011. I still remember it like it was yesterday. The weather was calm; it wasn’t hot, and it wasn’t cold. The wind wasn’t even blowing. Yet, somehow, it was still very yucky out. I didn’t realize this at the time, but it was the perfect weather for death. My phone rang at 5:14 AM, and it was a number I did not recognize so suddenly out of my sleep. I decided to ignore the call. Then seconds later, my phone rang again. This time I picked up, not knowing the moment I answered my life would be forever changed. At first I could not recognize the person on the other end of the line, because of all the pain and crying in her voice, but shortly I realized the person on the other end was the mother of my best friend. Burton Thomas Brown, also known as BT, was found dead on his parent’s couch. He overdosed on what we now know to be Xanax and painkillers. His heart just stopped. The instant I heard those words come out of his mother’s mouth, I think my heart stopped as well. I felt it shatter into five million tiny pieces, build itself back up, and shatter again five million more times. “Why would God, my God, allow for such a horrific thing to happen to such a beautiful person?” is the question that kept running through my confused mind. “Why BT?” I thought to myself, “Why now?” In the days that followed, I experienced a pain I had never knew existed. In comparison to child birth, it was much, much worse. This...

Battle of the Alamo

...The Battle of the Alamo Abstract This paper is a battle analysis of the Battle of the Alamo, which took place in 1836. It reviews the location and its significance within the war for independence that was taking placing during that time. The actions by the Texas revolutionary forces and Mexicans leading up to and during the battle are listed within the writing. It reveals the issue between the force stationed at the Alamo and their superior, General Sam Houston. The defenders at the Alamo didn’t receive support that was needed in order to provide intelligence of the Mexican force that was on its way. On the other hand, they didn’t listen to the order to vacate the fort. These are a couple of the major problems that took place before and during the battle. Although the battle was essential to inspiring the rest of the Texan forces, it leads me to believe that this important conflict could have turned out differently. The Battle of the Alamo The Battle of the Alamo is the most famous battle of the Texas revolution that took place in the early 1800s. “For many Americans and most Texans, the battle has become a symbol of patriotic sacrifice” (Hardin, 2010). Even though the Texans lost the battle, it contributed to the successful war for independence against Mexico. There were, at least, two decisions that may have altered the consequence of the Battle of the Alamo if more cautiously considered. The defenders at the Alamo didn’t receive support that was needed in order to...
