Decision to Pursue an MBA Degree

Decision to pursue MBA Program is a first step to reach my personal goal and start a new career. After my bachelor’s degree in Computer Science I was offered a job as IT Administrator to a well-known organization and never had an opportunity to think about further education. The decision to obtain an MBA requires a substantial commitment of money and time. However, there are many compelling reasons to pursue an MBA to get ahead in the business world. Below are some of the lines of reasoning that I want to mention:

MBAs are internationally recognized
Travel to many areas of the world, and most people have at least heard of the graduate degree known as the MBA. This makes it much more valuable than many other business degrees. For example, even though a Master's in Commerce may be a prestigious degree in some countries; other locations may not be familiar with the program. Having an MBA, which is recognized almost universally, will increase my ability to compete for jobs in more locations.
MBAs can earn higher salaries
One of the major reasons, as I have chosen to pursue an MBA is that it often allows graduates to earn a greater salary. Although the average starting salary for MBA graduates is influenced by the number of years of work experience they have prior to starting their degree, even those with fewer than three years of industry experience reportedly start out earning close to $70,000. This figure rises dramatically as graduates build up more experience. Simply put, an MBA offers an earning potential unrivalled by most other degrees.
MBAs permit advancement
Though as an MBA graduate, I may have to start out in a position somewhat lower on the corporate ladder than I would like; there are tremendous opportunities for advancement with the degree. As I possess a bachelor's degree may find I can only go so far in the corporate world, even if my skills and job performance are beyond reproach. With an MBA, the opportunities are virtually endless, and graduates like me can even assume the role of chief financial officer with good job performance.
MBAs increase business knowledge
Although this advantage may seem obvious, it is not one that should be overlooked. The MBA program will further my business skills, and provide me with a solid foundation of knowledge on which to build. I hope to become an MBA graduate with a good understanding of leadership, marketing principals, financial matters, and how to conduct international business. The type of MBA I am choosing will pursue my influence how much knowledge I will acquire in each of these areas.
Network and Learning in a disciplined fashion
My MBA network is for lifetime once I know how to leverage it. Without an MBA, I was learning from the school of hard knocks. There is a chance that I will pay a higher price for some lessons in the school of hard knocks
Awareness, Course Correction & Access to thought leader
Chances are I don’t know everything and chances are I will never know everything in this lifetime. An MBA will increase my awareness on these things. For some reason I picked what I love to do as a subject for my graduate degree and I love this career in that field. However, An MBA may provide me a bridge of success in different path of career of exploration. I have chance to meet thought leaders, corporate executives and, visionaries who come and speak (mostly for free). If I can connect with them and build on that relationship, I may have an unfair competitive advantage.

As years flew by I never had a chance to look back and get my MBA due other priorities. After coming to USA, I always wanted to get an MBA Graduate degree that will help reach my personal education goal and in my job career move. Couple of years ago from an individual contributor I had become a Manager in my company with fewer responsibilities as an IT administrator but more responsible to manage projects and people career growth and development. Not to mention that the company I used to work for got bankrupt due to current recession. When I find this MBA program in University of Phoenix, It was evident that it was the right time to decide and pursue the MBA Program not only to reach my personal goal however, it can assist me in becoming a more effective leader in my future role as an executive, sharpen my managerial skills and tools such as communication, motivating and developing people.

My Jungian 16 type Personality – ESTJ: Realistic, logical, analytical and have natural head for business, like to organize and run things and possible career as corporate executive. Here are some of the few what I expect to gain at the end of this program.
Communication: I have strong voice and tend to go straight to my point, and sometimes audience perceives it that I just dictate and don’t get their input or buy in. I expect to learn the art of communicating well as a leader both verbal and written.
Team and Leadership: My old job used to give me exposure to leadership and working with team however I come across different culture of people, their mindset was different so in this program with learning group and working with people from other organization will provide me a positive outlook so that I can cope up with such people.
Reading: I lack heavily on reading skills, so at the end of the course I want to accomplish my reading skills to the higher level.

Furthermore, an M.B.A can enhance the skills I have already acquired in the workforce to make me a more effective employee and manager. My goal is to build upon my current leadership and communications skills, and to sharpen my abilities in logical analysis and decision-making from the management perspective. University of Phoenix can help me achieve the goals and help me identify resources available that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. The knowledge I will gain from completing the M.B.A. program certainly add immense value to my current career path as well as any endeavor I want to pursue in the future.…...

The Information Technology is being hit twice as hard by not only the reduction of local positions due to the economy slow down but in addition, the lower cost of outsourcing (Computerworld Staff, Feb 22, 2010) . During a recent reduction in force evaluation by my current employer, I noticed that the employee’s education level was an assessed value, which added to the valuable points for retaining an employee. I decided that continuing my education would be a very important addition to resume, future reduction in force evaluations to maintain my current career or make me more valuable if I was out looking for a job. Originally, I was interested in starting a Master of Science in Management (MSM) (Thomas Edison State College, 2010) to further advancement in my current career in Information Technology (IT) and potentially get into a IT Management position the program is offered strictly on-line. I have also started noticing a pattern of companies “outsourcing” information technology jobs to other countries for cost savings to the US companies and noticed the continued strong increase of revenue for the Outsourced Cognizant Technology Solutions (Ribeiro, Augu) . Why I Decided to Get an Mba Degree

...Fansler MBA: Why I decided to get an MBA degree Receiving my Undergraduate degree was one of my most proud moments in my life, I felt a since of accomplishment, responsibility, and acceptance. I just knew I was going to now be able to provide better for my family. That is why everyone around me said goes to college. Finish and graduate. A college degree can only help you and not hurt you. Well that statement can be a bit misleading, while yes a college degree won’t hurt you, it didn’t help me much either. I got into a situation that I had the degree but lacked the experience. Why didn’t anybody tell me to work as well? Get an internship? A mentor? I guess everyone had the misconception that college degrees grantee a good paying job; however, sometimes it’s not the case. I have come to say continuing education, even well beyond an undergrad, will not only help your career situation, but set a standard for your family and or kids, to always continue learning. Objection: An MBA will not guarantee a good job. It won’t guarantee a job, but what does? Having an MBA has put me more marketable with employers. Bryan Cohen argues that “First-year accountants with an associate degree made an average of $33,300 per year, while those with an MBA earned $39,800 per year as of April 2011 (Cohen, 2001). MBA open a world of big possibilities in a career field., The reason I decided, why not get my degree, is because I know it will pay off in the long run, when I want to pursue......

I will support my decision of pursing an MBA with references and data of individuals who have written articles regarding the pursuit of an MBA for African Americans. This paper will include my Jungian results from the 16-Type Personality Insights questionnaire to see if I have the qualifications of a manager. Why I Chose to Pursue an MBA I decided to pursue an MBA to start a new career and to achieve a personal goal. I have a best friend who persuaded me to further my education. She would tell me, “Seles, this world is going to require that individuals who seek employment have a Master’s degree.” I began to think how my goal would be achieved and what university I attend. Wondering and worrying about the cost of this type of education caused me to have many sleepless nights and much stress. My concern was finding the time between allocating times with my six year-old son, working part-time as a volunteer and taking care/assisting my parents who are 70. Also my biggest issue I had was who would hire a recent graduate who is almost 50, African-American single parent of a six year-old son and who have never worked in the corporate world. Degree or Not

...Writing an Argument Latasha Randle MGT/521 February 6, 2012 Dr. Marie J. Abram Writing an Argument A Masters of Business Administration (MBA) is a post graduate degree which focuses on Business Communication. The program focuses on providing its attendees with business knowledge, leadership abilities, networking opportunities, and career advancement. Although the intent of the program is understood, one must weigh the advantages and disadvantages when determining if pursuing an MBA is the right choice. Oftentimes, obtaining a degree is only seen in a positive light. However, there can be some hidden negative impacts to seeking a MBA. There are several factors I personally had to consider when deciding to enroll in an MBA program. The MBA program is recognized as the most sought-after postgraduate degree program (VanderMey, 2011). According to the Graduate Management Admission Council, the average starting salary ranges from $61,000 to $78,000 annually for recent MBA graduates (VanderMey, 2011). The thought of obtaining a highly sought-after degree and the earning potential were my first true reasons for desiring to be in the MBA program. On the contrary, the job market is currently in a downward spiral. This means that with an MBA degree, there is a likelihood of remaining underemployed or unemployed. According to recent statistics, college graduates are facing the highest unemployment rates in more than two decades (VanderMey, 2011). Another objection to earning...

Mba and Degrees

...Opportunity Cost of getting an MBA and Economic Factors to consider while taking a degree The opportunity cost of getting an MBA is what one must forego as a result of the resolution to pursue an MBA. Acquiring an MBA has potential career flexibility and advancement opportunities. This, however, gets accompanied by a huge price tag. Inflation has been outgrown by the higher education costs in America. Acquisition of an MBA has combined tuition costs with accommodation and stationery costs (John & Scott 112). MBAs can incur between 100 and 200 thousand dollars in expenses and debts in a two-year period. An annual tuition fee of 30,000 dollars can be increased with 10,000 dollars in additional boarding and stationery expenses. Moreover, a lot of programs necessitate the purchase of laptops in addition to costly overseas trips. Such "peripheral" costs can lead to semester expenditure double the tuition. To earn an MBA at an acceptable cost, it is advisable to pursue programs at public universities as they offer a less expensive option compared to the expensive private business school that lead one into educational debt. Some major companies and corporations assume partial or the full costs of an MBA program. It is advisable to pursue such an alternative as an MBA program is a capital-intensive effort that should be undertaken with diligence. Economics factors when pursuing a degree or taking another route in life Investing in oneself by pursuing a degree provides one......

Ataur Rahman (ECO455.1) | Gazi Musayab Raffan ( 0910486520)&Mohsin Ul Amin Khan (0910894520) | Abstract The purpose of this research was to find out whether undergraduate performance and program of students reflect the motivation for continuing further education into Post-Graduate level. The research is based on questionnaire survey of fifty Undergraduate students from five different Universities in Dhaka. The questionnaire had 13 questions that were used to find out about the programs and CGPA of the participants as well as their plans for opting for Master’s level education. Since the survey was based on students currently pursuing their Bachelor’s we tried to know as much as possible about their plans for further education. In this regard we have assumed that the students who have planned out their further education in details have greater possibility of actually enrolling for Master’s level education. So we set the questions in such a way so as to reflect well the mental preparation as well other factors for planning ahead. Upon analyzing the data a correlation between the hypothesized constructs have been found in general. Though some questions had given us mixed results, taken as a whole the research does find a relationship between undergraduate performance and program and the continuation of further education.
