...Psy 201 Week 5 Living in partner-violent families: Developmental links to antisocial behavior and relationship violence.  I chose this topic and article because the “cycle of violence” is something that I can relate to. I got into a domestic violent relationship at a very young age and was scared to speak to anyone about, because I was afraid of what might happen, but I’ve never experienced child abuse. Child abuse and chastising your children is totaling different. I find it to be pretty amusing as to how children who are exposed to intimate partner-violent families are likely to follow the same path when they reach adulthood. I would think that a child, as they get older, would want to refrain from such violent relationships after witnessing the violence from their parents; but statistics prove that such exposure is very relative for violent interactions in adulthood. Domestic violence is something that many families struggle with and it is a very unfortunate situation for a child to listen and see the events that take place when parental violence happens. I do feel that the “cycle of violence” continues to happen with each generation because the children being raised in these households know nothing more than what they are being exposed to. How would they know what a healthy, and normal intimate relationship entails if they are shown nothing but unhealthy abuse? The article that I chose focuses on living in partner-violent homes and the correlation between......

...cross contamination. Knowing that vegetarian food is healthier then most non vegetarian dishes, the market for healthy eaters would likely help the success of this brand. Few restaurants offer vegetarian meals but in my personal experience their is a huge market that hasn’t been fully exploited. With Earth’s Bounty being urban, warm and inviting with the use of toned down greens and warm browns, customers will feel welcoming and come in and try food maybe a little out of there comfort zone. A competitor Earth's Bounty is up against is Nuba Restaurant on 207B West Hastings. This restaurant cooks mostly authentic Lebanese Cuisine and was named best Lebanese food in Vancouver by “Vancouver Magazine.” The hours of operation range threw out the week and it’s food price is more on the expensive side of the spectrum. When reading restaurant reviews most comments were the same, “Overall okay experience, but for the price the food is not that great.” The difference between Earth's bounty and Nuba is that we have a different target audience. I feel that Nuba is trying to relate more to a more mature crowed while I'm looking for a younger audience. Nuba’s food is also authentic Lebanese food while Earth’s Bounty is very westernized. Another competitor is OrganicLives on 1829 Quebec Street, Vancouver. As well as Nuba, OrganicLives relates to a more mature audience because of the over the top high quality vegan food that is quite expensive. The only bad review that stuck out in my......

...A few weeks back I tested out a theory on different ways to discipline my son, in the theory I conducted are different ways to discipline my son. Before conducting my research, I seek advice from friends and family members on different strategies on disciplining a child. After listening to their advices I got so many different advices, I was skeptical on witch one to use so, I decided to conduct a research of my own. The type of informal research method I used was Google it gave me a list of websites on how to discipline my child. After conducting my research I found many similarities methods with the methods a psychologist would suggest. Some of the method I used from my research was “no sudden moves” and “put out the fire.” The no sudden moves it’s method is to not charge at your children in the room or where ever they are playing in, after telling them they have a certain amount of time to play or do any activity they are doing before they have to put up everything. The put out the fire method is to wait for your child until they have calm down before talking to them on why they got upset. Even though the methods were quite similar the methods from the psychologist where more detailed on why you should and should not do certain things when using certain methods. If I were given another opportunity on how to discipline my son, I would of change many things on the methods I used on him. What I would of done differently, I would use a formal research on what methods are best......

Motivational proposal is to plan to achieve a few different goals. By setting these goals, we are making milestones in our goal. We need to keep these milestones realistic but achievable. If we overwhelm ourselves. The motivation will not be there when we fail to meet our first milestones. There still incentive involved but the overall goal will not be achieved if not properly planned accordingly. Since the incentive is to make money the motivation is there and I am ready to work hard for these next few months to get my crops in the dirt. I have some farming experience. Final Project Psy/201

...Final Project: Autobiographical Psychosocial History PSY/201 Nikki Pigeon 06-17-13 The five concepts that have affected my development in life that I have chose to write about are; parenting style, nature-nurture issue, influence, need for achievement, and also generativity-versus-stagnation stage. I have chosen to write about these five concepts because I feel that each of them has given me the foundations on which I have built my life and helped shape me into to person I am today. I first chose parenting style, I was raised by my grandparents and they were what I would consider permissive parents for the most part they gave us freedom and required little from us however, they did show us that responsibility was a very big part of life and the earlier we learn it the better we will accept it when we enter adulthood. They made having responsibility somewhat fun by helping us with chores and homework, and the feeling that I got from knowing that they were happy with me and proud of me really reinforced that if I were to show the same responsibility for other aspects of my life I could achieve anything I set my mind to. The next concept I chose would be the nature-nurture issue, this affected my life because I felt that both nature and nurture played a part in my growing up. By nature of my family, excluding one of my parents, I was naturally hard working, determined, easy-going, and fun. Growing up in my family you can see each of these traits in everyone, and I feel...

...SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY PSY/201 SCENARIO ASSIGNMENT PAPER. Social Psychology Paper ANGELA R. CARY PSY/201 October 03, 2013 Jennifer Baker Social Psychology Paper There were several factors that contributed to Sarah’s attitude in regards to her curfew. Some of these were motivation, compliance and conformity, Normative and Informational Social Influence. Other factors that affected Sarah’s behavior, action and thoughts may include persuasion and peer-pressure. Some of the ways that Sarah displayed cognitive dissonance were disobeying curfew, going to a party, and unnecessary worry. When Sarah decided to go to the party she displayed conformity in order to go along (comply) and fit in with a popular group from school. Sarah felt a need to be accepted by a new group because she was in a new social environment and wants to be accepted and popular in the group also. Sarah may have fears of meeting new people and being in a new environment therefore she conform to a large group of people which is a difficult task. Sarah is also experiencing “incongruous” emotions, actions and behaviors at this time which is not “normal” for her. Sarah begins to avoid her curfew time, and disobey the rules and guidelines her parents had set for her previously, by agreeing to go to the party and being late. She also decides that being accepted and popular by the new group has given her some self satisfaction and happy feelings as well as gained acceptance......

CRITICAL THINKING APPLICATION 12.4 Adulthood and Aging Physical Development Reproductive Life Life Expectancy Death and Dying 451 hat is the first question ever asked about you? It was not your name, nor where you are from, nor which of your parents you most resemble. I guarantee that is was, “What is it?” As soon as we know there is a baby, we ask whether it is a boy or a girl. Why should the answer matter? How does knowing gender make us feel more connected to this new person? With modern ultrasound techniques, you can have a color photograph of your baby nestled in the womb as early as 4 weeks from conception. My own pregnancy was a miraculous surprise, and at my advanced age of 40, considered “high risk.” I anxiously awaited the ultrasound pictures, wanting reassurance that my baby was healthy and developing normally. When I left, I was given my first picture of my baby-to-be. And there, labeled clearly in capital letters, was the answer: “BOY,” along with an arrow pointing to the evidence. Before I knew he would survive, or how much I would love him, I knew he was a boy, and that changed everything: his name, his baby blankets, the wall color in his room, the toys that filled our house, the friends he made, his experience in school, and the activities (mostly involving superheroes) we spend our days pursuing. Why does......

...Testing a Theory PSY/201 Testing a Theory When I was 18 years old, I was fortunate enough to get a job as a guitar instructor. This was only the second job that I ever had, and I was excited about both the opportunity to share my knowledge with others and by the decent wages offered. While I had already been playing guitar for several years and had the technical ability, I had no experience in educating others. While I improved over time, I began my work as an instructor based on a rather naïve theory. Before I began instructing on my own, I shadowed the instructor I was replacing on his last day. This gave me a chance to meet the students and to watch how he conducted his classes. I noticed he generally used the same material for each student. The only real variation was how far along each individual student was in the material. From observing this, I decided to take the same approach. I developed the theory that since all my students were learning the same instrument, they could all be taught the same way. When I began teaching on my own, I quickly learned that this theory was false. From this theory, I formed the hypothesis that my students could be taught in the same manner and from the same material with little or no variation. I then began testing this hypothesis on my students. While I did not consider it in this way at the time, my initial teaching experience was an experiment of sorts. I inadvertently had formed a theory, a hypothesis, and......

Her new friends had just invited her to go to a party. In the scenario it said that Sarah had never been to a party before, and that she also wanted her new friends to continue to invite her out places with them. All these factors contributed to Sarah breaking her curfew and going to the party with her new friends. 2. In what ways did Sarah display cognitive dissonance? ...Samuel Smoot Social Psychology Paper PSY 201 3/1/2014 Sarah is going through exploration of her own path. She wants to do things that are not okay with her parents. Should she do these things and lie about what she is really doing, or is it easier to be honest? The problem with honesty is she will most likely not get what she wants out of it. It is the way that parent and child relationships mature. It ultimately helps with the separation process that is inevitable. Sarah is starting to make her own choices even if they are wrong. While mom and dad are trying to protect the little girl that is their daughter, like they always have. Sarah has many adult choices, but she is still only a young teenager. Sarah is just a teenager who is still attending school and getting good grades. To start with Sarah was dealing with social cognition toward her curfew. Sarah was experiencing partying for the first time. Sarah had obviously heard from other how fun it could be, but had never experienced it with her parent’s rules in place. For a fifteen year old these issues are the social norm. That still doesn’t make it any easier on her decision to go to the party. The friends and their persuasion made it even harder to say no too. She wanted to fit in, because they are new friends to her and she wants to fit in. She didn’t want to give them a chance to discriminate against her for not staying out to attend the party with them. Due to......

Psy 201 Week 5 Dqs

...Psy 201 DQ Wk 5 DQ1 My first response as a male was that the child was probably just being himself. When I fully comprehended the question I concluded that Sally and Bob probably have a rebellious son on their hands. They should calmly and firmly take control of the situation before Jimmy gets too much older and grows to be disrespectfully to his parents. Television could be one of the issues, so perhaps walking in the park would be an activity that would benefit the child. Exercise is good for a child and it also helps wear out the child which could take some energy out of the aggression. Sally and Bob observed. The next day after a good nights sleep, perhaps the child would be more agreeable to the situation. Television I would say has some of an affect on how the child behaves, but I have a son and sometimes he expresses anger but not aggressive behavior. DQ2 I think it is a combination of both nature and nurture that influences our behavior. Nature refers to the environmental factors of influence (siblings & family, schooling & peers, and any other external source of influence around them). Nurture refers to the hereditary factors which “are based on the genetic makeup of an individual that influences growth throughout life” (Laserwords, 2009), and therefore influential to the individuals behavior.   There are a lot of environmental factors that are going to influence a child’s behavior as he or she is growing up. Most of our traits of behavior have to do with......

Week 6 Psy 201 Library Article Summary

...Social Development in Adults – Library Article Summary PSY/201 – Foundations of Psychology October 16, 2011 Helen Tretiak-Carmichael Social Development in Adults – Summary of University Library Article The article chosen is entitled “Psychosocial Development From College Through Midlife: A 34-Year Sequential Study.” The article is relevant and creditable. The range of issues covered during the adult development phase of life and the additional study of Erikson’s theory the class has been studying over the last two weeks provides credence to the relevancy of the subject matter. This article would be an excellent reference for an assignment on the topic of Social Development of Adults. The study referenced in the article uses subjects found from the alumni of the University of Rochester in school from the 1960s through the 1980s whose contact information was obtained and solicited in a number of ways. The study spans a time of at least 35 years as well as a range of ages. The study focused on growth within “[t]he eight Eriksonian psychosocial issues” which it define as “…trust versus mistrust, autonomy versus shame and doubt, initiative versus guilt, industry versus inferiority, identity achievement versus identity diffusion, intimacy versus isolation, generativity versus stagnation, and ego integrity versus despair.” (Whitbourne, S., Sneed, J. R., & Sayer, A., (2009). The article provides psychological background on its subject......
