Professional Organization: The Tech Republic By: Mike Vignapiano Foundations for General Education and Professional Success/GEN-200 18 February 2010 Prof. Jack Rivituso

The professional organizations I am interested in (and belong to) are many. I am a member in ‘good standing’ with The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Network Professional Association (NPA), Independent Computer Consultants Association (ICCA). However, my favorite organization is Tech Republic Tech Republic is a free website dedicated to issues in the world of the Information Technology (IT). It is owned by CBS Interactive and marketed alongside BNet and ZDNet (formerly ZiffNet). Once a person becomes a registered member on this site, it will allow them to receive several e-newsletters, download certain ‘White Papers’ (authoritative report or guide that often addresses issues and how to solve them), and post comments on the site. Tech Republic provides up-to-date, relevant information for those people in the IT Field. Besides the White Papers, it also provides the member with Newsletters, Blogs, Downloads, Forums, Photos, Videos, Webcasts, Software, and Training. Most of these items are all free. However, there are some items that may need to be purchase (at reduced rates) and can do so at their online Store, for necessary, or nice-to-have items that the IT Technician may desire. Tech Republic helps provides the IT pro with the knowledge and abilities that directly affect his or her career. It provides the most current and up-to-date information on today’s technology, allowing professionals the ability to stay out in front of the curve compared to others in the field, thus enhancing job security. Tech Republic does this by providing the IT Pro with hundreds of FREE downloads. Some of these downloads may be nice-to-know. However, most of the downloads are important to know, whereas others can even be imperative to an IT career, such as:
10 free Microsoft programs worth checking out
10 ways to detect computer malware
10 phrases that can change your career
10 cool things you can do with a USB flash drive
Network, PC, and server audit checklist

In Tech Republic’s White Papers archive, people will find useful and essential information such as:
Things to Know When Troubleshooting Your Network
Router Essentials
TCP/IP Troubleshooting
Switching Essentials
IP Addressing and Subnetting for New Users
10 Ways Hackers Breach Security and
Network Fundamentals In the BLOG section that is available. Staff and other members provide ideas and information that may be critical to finding and possibly keeping your job or keeping your clients. Ideas and information such as:
10 tech tasks you should be able to do in your sleep
10 things you shouldn't do when working with an upset customer
Quickly edit the Boot.ini file in Windows XP.
Tech Republic also informs the IT professional some nice tricks such as how to customize the Windows XP's General Tab so your contact information is always in front of your client's.

I have used and will continue to use this site far and above most other sites relative to the IT field. The information is not only accurate and precise, but also readily available. The folks that post on this site must be staff, or members who have had their contact information confirmed and verified by Tech Republic. This allows Tech Republic easier monitoring and keeps erroneous and fraudulent information to a minimum.
But the best thing about belonging to this site is that it not only allows networking with other IT Professionals, but also did I mention that it was FREE!

...Professional Organizations-Software Engineering Graduating with a degree in Information Technology poses new and interesting challenges. A new career opportunity in a challenging and rewarding field is most often the focus of a student during school and becomes the main objective upon graduation. In reality, a college degree means one thing; that the graduate met the requirements and has learned the fundamentals. It is not unusual for a graduate holding a degree in software engineering to obtain a professional position that requires him or her to perform duties which include other aspects of information technology such as project management, systems administration, or security administration; therefore, it is inevitable that an individual will face situations where he or she must seek knowledge or advice from other professionals with expertise in another specialty (Willson, 2010)). Professional associations, organizations, and societies are non-profit organizations that seek to promote the advancement and interest of a particular profession or field of study; therefore, would be a logical resource for sound advice and knowledge for any professional who is passionate about their chosen profession (Willson, 2010). For example, a professional Software Engineer may wish to consider membership an organization that is specific to Software Engineering. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a non-profit organization that develops, defines, and......

Professional Nursing Organizations

...Professional organizations and associations in nursing are critical for generating the energy, flow of ideas, and proactive work needed to maintain a healthy profession that advocates for the needs of its clients and nurses, and the trust of society (Matthews, J.H., 2012). These organizations are helpful to get the nurses together from all around the nation and share ideas, thoughts, congregate, talk among themselves, and advocate for their causes. These organizations make it possible for nurse to advocate for the removal of barriers to the use of advanced practice nurses, to allow them to practice to their full scope of practice across all settings and in all states and also to receive just payment for their services rendered. Such organizations provide webinars, scholarly manuscripts and publish the latest advanced knowledge in a specialty area and/or the profession to help nurses maintain current knowledge of changes in practices and Continued Education with Contact hour credits. Very few policy changes take place without the concerted efforts of many advocates working together to bring about a common goal. Joining a professional nursing organization is an important way to enhance individual advocacy efforts. Nurses in an organized professional association have more resources, and are able to strategize more effectively to bring nursing’s perspective to health policy decision makers than do individual nurses. Professional nursing organizations are able to monitor......

... Professional Organizations Scott Johnson BSA/310 November 17, 2014 Joseph Duer Professional Organizations There are many different organizations around the world that Information Technology professionals can join to enhance their knowledge. These can include anything from websites where you can learn the newest equipment or standards, to smaller organizations that meet regularly around your city. I feel every IT professional should seek out and join these organizations, not just for a chance to boost their career, but to participate and help guide those that came after them, and will be taking up the next line. Almost every city has its own IT community. This is a great place to learn what is happening around your area, as well as to network and help your career. I belong to a Kansas City Web Professional group that meets once a month for a few hours at Centriq. This group has a different topic every month, and has speakers come up to explain, or take questions on any particular area. It’s great place to discuss the newest trends, as well as any new standards and how to best implement them. If there are questions about specific areas, such as website security, or handling credit card information, there is always someone there who’s gone through it and willing to help. One organization that I feel is a great community to be a part of is Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility (CPSR). This group advices politicians and the public with assessments on the state...

...History of Central African Republic: The Central African Republic (CAR) is located in the heart of equatorial Africa. The country, with an estimated population of 4.4 million and a landmass of 622,984 sq km , is landlocked, sharing borders with Chad, Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Republic of the Congo, and Cameroon. The country, a former colony of France (formerly known as Ubangi-Shari), gained independence on August 13, 1960. Like most former colonies, CAR was subject to interference in domestic affairs by its former colonizer. The French were linked to the death of Barthélémy Boganda, the country’s pre-independence leader . The French were also directly involved in several coups within the CAR. Following the death of Boganda, David Dacko a former Boganda aide, would go on to become the country’s first President (with assistance from France). Professional Nursing Organization

...Explain the value that professional nursing organizations have in networking and in the legislative process. Provide a rationale for your response. According to Merton, a professional organization is an organization of practitioners who judge one another as professionally competent and who have banded together to perform social functions which they cannot perform in their separate capacity as individual. The America Nurses Association is a national professional organization representing the nation’s entire registered nurse population. ANA is designed to elevate the standard of nursing education, establish a code of ethics and promote the interest of nursing. Therefore, the three foundational documents, formulated by her members and staff, known as the Code of Ethics for Nurses with interpretative Statements (2001), the social policy statement: Essence of the profession (2010a), and Nursing: Scope and Standard of practice (2010b) help distinguish and support nursing as a profession. Membership in a professional association provides many benefits. You being part of a professional association encourages companionship and professional networking; your contact with your fellow nurses, and not just the ones who you already see every day, will open a world of opportunity. Through in-person meetings as well as online social networking venues provided by an association, you can connect with other nurses who work in similar positions and learn how they do things, and you can......
