For the past three months we have been participating in a Stock-Trak Simulation exercise to experience what it takes to trade in the stock market. In this report, we will explain which strategies I chose to follow, which investments were the most and least successful to my portfolio and lastly, what advice we would give those who are looking to trade with real money.

Investment Strategy and Selection

The strategy I employed for our Stock-Trak simulation was to diversify our portfolio among different sectors, various stocks with relatively low risk, and stocks which were positively/negatively correlated with other securities in our portfolio. My goal was to make a gain of 10% return on our…...

Investment Strategy Report Portfolio Justification Bottom Up

...Week 1 – Investment Portfolio Strategy Strategy: I will be using the bottom-up approach for my investment strategy. A Bottom up approach assumes that individual companies can do well even in an industry that is not performing very well. This is the opposite of "top-down investing". Making sound decisions based on a bottom-up investing strategy entails a thorough review of the company in question. This includes becoming familiar with the company's products and services, its financial stability and its research reports. The reason I have chosen the bottom- up approach for my strategy is simply because this approach focuses on the analysis of individual stocks. This allows me (the investor) to focus my attention on a specific company rather than on the industry in which that company operates or on the economy as a whole. The method in which I went about putting my strategy together was quite simple. I decided to familiarize myself with the different markets in the US and Europe and looked into the different denominations in each market. I then looked in the European Market at the companies in each of the Indices (FTSE 100, DAX & STOXX50) and chose companies who wore on either making a steady profit or breaking even and aspiring to make a profit soon. I also did the same for the American market and its indices (DOW, S&P 500 and NASDAQ). I focused my attention in particular to the big and well known multinationals to invest in such as Apple and Microsoft etc as I......

...activities, made me more aware of whom I am as a person. I always knew that I was good at doing presentations, but looking at different methods and techniques of presenting was really good. I gained more of the methods and techniques from the students within my PDD1 class and watching online videos. The coursework section has really been helpful as well. It shows you how to make use of different skills of individual writing, reflective reports and group work. There are various examples given in which PPD1 could be improved, so it could be implemented in the next academic year. One suggestion is 1. A more broad idea of feedback on what the lecturer is looking for in the work assigned. a. This will enable students to know exactly what they are going to write or give them idea of how the lecturer wants the assignment to be handled. 2. Exam time-tables to be given way ahead of time b. This will also enable students to revise more thoroughly in preparation for the exam. Conclusion I have learnt a lot from writing up this portfolio. From looking at the different presentations given, I was able to point out different techniques that I would be able to implement into either my work or everyday life. Reilly and Keith C. Brown, “Analysis of Investments and Management of Portfolio,” 9th edition, (South-Western, 2009) Chapter 5 Question 2 Question 10 Question 13 Question 15 2 The answers to the assignment questions In the text, the return due to exchange-rate changes (RX) is shown to be equal to fxt/fxt-1 - 1, where fxt is the foreign exchange rate at time t expressed in terms of the investor's home currency per unit of foreign currency. Let fxt be the exchange rate expressed in terms of dollars and fx*t be the exchange rate expressed in terms of pounds. These two rates are simply reciprocals, i.e., fx*t = 1/fxt. So from the table in the problem we have: Period (1 + RX) (1 + R*X) 3 1 2 3 4 5 (for US investor) 2.5/3 = 0.833 2.5/2.5 = 1.000 2/2.5 = 0.800 1.5/2 = 0.750 2.5/1.5 = 1.667 (for UK investor) 3/2.5 = 1.200 2.5/2.5 = 1.000 2.5/2 = 1.250 2/1.5 = 1.333 1.5/2.5 = 0.600 The total return to a U.S. investor from a U.K. investment is (1 + RX)(1 + RUK)  1; the total return to a U.K. investor from a U.S. investment is(1 + R*X)(1 + RUS)  1. So: Return to U.S. Investor From U.S. Investment From U.K. Investment 10% 15% 5% 12% 6% 7.6% Return to U.K. Investor 4 Period 1 2 3 4 5 Average (0.833)(1.05) (1)(0.95) (0.8)(1.15) (0.75)(1.08) (1.667)(1.1) ...

...very biased. I believed that writers had to follow a certain format and stick to the textbook rules in order to succeed as a creative writer. This notion of mine was completely shattered, and for the good, once I was introduced to the fact that a creative writer is in essence not bound by any rules. Don’t get me wrong, there are certain rules, but these rules are nowhere nearly as strict as the rules I experienced during my stint with formal literary writing. More than the rules, I uncovered several tools that would aid my writing process in the future. Experimenting with the five elements of creative writing - Image, Voice, Character, Setting and Story provided me with a firm fundamental understanding as to how I should begin crafting my portfolio. It was very interesting to discover how each of these elements worked independently as well as coherently within each of the four genres to provide a well rounded work of literature. Among the four genres, I was most comfortable with writing the Drama. Integrating all the necessary elements of creative writing into the drama came naturally to me as I could visualize the drama actually taking place on stage. The fact that all of my characters’ thoughts had to be externalized as opposed to fiction where I could go into my characters’ thoughts and not worry about the reader’s reaction proved to be an exciting challenge. Observing Love is Bl(ow)ind one can notice the use of this technique in the opening scene where Raf is in the bathroom......

Report About Constructing Portfolio of Stocks.

...investors have found that diversification of investment through portfolio investment can meet the investment goals in a better way than investing in a single security. Therefore, to make the maximum return at a given risk preference level, it is important to design and create a portfolio that would provide the optimum return for per unit of risk borne. Here I have constructed an optimum portfolio with different scenarios such as maximizing theta in case of short sell allowed and not allowed; minimizing standard deviation in case of short sell allowed and not allowed, maximizing return for a given risk in case of short sell allowed and not allowed, minimizing risk for a given return in case of short sell allowed and not allowed of 8 securities from a set of 16 securities of 5 sectors selected from the listed companies in Dhaka stock exchange. I have analyzed very sophisticatedly to minimize the risk of the portfolio. PORTFOLIO CONSTRUCTION In simple words, portfolio refers to combination of assets. An investor invests a pool  of different investments  to make a profit while aiming to preserve the invested (principal) amount. These investments are chosen generally on the basis of different risk-reward combinations: from 'low risk, low yield' (gilt edged) to 'high risk, high yield' (junk bonds) ones; or different types of income streams: steady but fixed, or variable but with a potential for growth. I am focusing on a portfolio that is well balanced with moderate level of......

How large (if any) were the gains from diversification? Did you diversify? Why or why not? Our strategy was to diversify, but we didn’t manage to, as the price of the assets was extremely high. 6) Calculate the CAPM beta of each asset. Were the asset expected returns proportional to their beta? The market expected return would be the average return of all the traded assets in market. For supply to equal demand, the tangency portfolio should have the same weights as the aggregate supply of risky assets. Is this true in our market? Through this project we found out the Holding Period Return, the Arithmetic Mean and the Standard Deviation of these 10 companies. After that we calculated the correlation coefficient, covariance of these stocks and also of the Dhaka Stock Exchange Index (DSEX).Then using the Markowitz Model we found out the portfolio risk and return and used the information to make an efficient frontier. ...foot end and the porter stated that I had to remain at the head end in case of an emergency as I was responsible. It then dawned on me that I should not have been delegated to transfer Jay without a qualified member of the staff particularly as the adrenaline was short acting nor should I have accepted this task. On arrival at the ward, I gave a full handover. Johns (2004) suggest that it is good practice to give an informative handover, despite a telephone handover being given; as it was busy something may have been overlooked. The NMC (2008a) require that any concerns be reported in writing. Consequently when I arrived back from the ward I spoke to Sue regarding the transfer and we agreed that I complete an Adverse Incident Report (AIR) form which reports potential problems as adverse incidents, this then allows action to be taken to prevent further incidents from reoccurring. Examination of feelings When Sue originally said that I probably had more knowledge than her, I took it as a compliment. I am unsure why she stated this as she would have undoubtedly worked with more children in an emergency situation than I had. She may have felt threatened as she might have thought I had more knowledge of children's nursing than her as I had specialized in paediatric nursing as her chosen specialty was adults. In addition perhaps she intended to give me confidence as I may have appeared to have lacked it on this occasion as a consequence of being tired as it was my third long......

Kmb Portfolio Report

...As of December 3, 2014, our portfolio ranked #3 overall with $103,639.82 3.64% in return with only 5 trade. You might think we are lazy to put effort into the stock simulator. This is not true because we had a strategy behind our action. Most teams pick stock with fundamental analysis (P/E or debt-to-equity ratio etc.) buying lots of different company stock and diversify the risk of losing money. But this is not the case for our team, we pick stock based on our personal interest. For example, some people like using Windows computer while others prefer Mac computer. As you can see, we made a lot of money on EA (23.96% return as of December 3, 2014) we were both interested in the entertainment industry and we decide to go with it. (I ensure you we are not a huge gamer!) I believe buying stock is like choosing something you interested or familiar with. Otherwise, you are gambling your money because you are buying something you have limited knowledge and not familiar with the industry. Before our first trade, I first defined our objective. Instead of making the most return, “Don’t lose money” is our #1 rule because we are winning as long as we don’t lose money. For this reason, we only buy stock that we believe it will growth within the 3 months period. KMB is our first stock that we bought. We bought it at $105.83 and is now selling $114.7. I like KMB long time ago because its steady growth trend had lasted for the past 3 years. The reason why KMB can growth steadily is......

As it was a diversified fund, I thought that investment in one balanced fund would allow me to diversify my investment and I would get a decent return. Unfortunately, the fund has given negative return in spite of the fact that the stock index during the period has gone up by 5 per cent. ...Luke Martino Writing 102 12/9/15 Writing 102 Portfolio Throughout this semester of Writing 102, I have been assigned to write four essays that have stressed the course competencies of subject matter knowledge, writing process knowledge, rhetorical knowledge, genre knowledge, discourse community knowledge, and meta-cognition. Through the process of drafting, editing, and revising three out of the four papers, I think I have been effectively able to absorb three of those course competencies; subject matter knowledge, rhetorical knowledge, and writing process knowledge. The first paper I was assigned to write for Writing 102 was a literacy narrative. For this paper, I was told to write about a past experience that helped influence my current writing and reading qualities. The core competencies that were involved in this essay were writing process knowledge and subject matter knowledge. I used writing process knowledge when I was told to generate ideas for my essay. I began by thinking of five possible ideas and from there I created a brainstorming web out of the two topics I thought would be the most interesting. Shortly after starting, I realized I could only build an effective brainstorming web from one idea. I decided to use the first time I forgot my lines in a play as my main idea for the essay. After I completed the brainstorming web and finished taking notes on what I remembered from the incident I started to follow the writing process that consisted of......

It’s now the fifth major central bank to do so. * The Fed met after Japan’s decision and released a more conservative statement compared to their earlier actions of this year so far. * Treasury yields were down especially for the 5 and 10 year treasuries. * Last week the fed committee had a meeting and one of the biggest things that was observed from the meeting was that the committee will monitor global and economic development due to the recent uncertainty of potential global growth. * The fed had a general outlook for increasing interest rates, but for now they will be looking at income as a performance driver in the market. * Puerto Rico came up with a plan on Monday to reduce its debt by approximately 46%. Not many details about the plan were released, but from what we have found its obvious and of great importance to have great and high level of participation for all involved.
