Module 1 Exercise 1.1 1. Describe an arithmetic sequence in two sentences.
A sequence in which each term after the first differs from the preceding term by a constant amount. The difference between consecutive terms is called the common difference of the sequence. 2. Describe a geometric sequence in two sentences.
A sequence in which each term after the first is obtained by multiplying the preceding term by a fixed nonzero constant. The amount by which we multiply each time is called the common ratio of the sequence. 3. Write the first four terms of the sequence. a1= 13 and an = an-1+8 for n ≥ 2 a1 = 13 a2 = an-1+8, (n = 2) a2 = 13 + 8 = 21 a3 = a2 + 8 a3 = 21 + 8 = 29 a4 = a3 + 8 a4 = 29 + 8 = 37
The first four terms of the sequence are 13, 21, 29, and 37 4. Evaluate: 16!2!*14!
16*15*14!2*1*14! = 16*15*14!2*1*14!
=16*152 = 2402
5. Find the indicated sum i=15i2 i=15i2 = 12 + 22 + 32 + 42 + 52
= 1 + 4 + 9 + 16 +25 i=15i2 = 55 6. A company offers a starting yearly salary of $33,000 with a raise of $2,500 per year. Find the total salary over a 10-year period. an = a1 + (n - 1)*d, [where n = 10 years; a1 = $33,000; d = $2,500] a10 = 33,000 + (10 - 1) * 2,500 a10 = 33,000 + (9) * 2500 a10 = 33,000 + 22,500 a10 = 55,500
The total salary over a 10-year period will be $55,500.

7. Suppose you have $1 the first day of a month, $5 the second day, $25 the third day, and so on. That is, each day you save five times as much as you did the day before. What will you put aside for saving on the eighth day of the month?
1, 5, 25,…. r = 5, n = 1 an = 5n-1 a8 = 58-1 = 57 a8 = 78,125
The amount to put aside for saving on the eighth day of the month will be $78,125. 8. First 12 terms of the geometric sequence 2, 6, 18, 54,…
Common ratio (r) = 62 = 3, a1 = 2, n = 12 a5 = a4*r = 54*3 = 162 a6 = a5*r = 162*3 = 486 a7 = a6*r = 486*3 = 1,458 a8 = a7*r = 1458*3 =.…...

Deep Partial Thickness Wound

...A Registered Nurse is taking care of a patient who exhibits a deep partial thickness burn involving the left hand, left forearm, and left side of the chest. The wound is very painful, like most burn wounds. A wound of this nature extends deep into the second layer of skin and can quickly develop into a full thickness burn or third degree burn. The symptoms include skin that is red and white, not easily blanch able along with bloody blisters, which are often moist and painful. The Registered Nurse should assess and provide wound care including timely wound irrigation and dressing changes, along with monitoring for signs of infection. The primary goal is to promote healing, minimize further damage and prevent infection. If the patient’s wound is open, note its color. If the wound is red, that demonstrates healthy tissue regeneration. If the wound is yellow purulent drainage and slough (dead skin) are present. If the wound is black the presence of a thick, necrotic material called eschar is present which hinders healing and must be removed. If the wound is closed the skin edges should be well-approximated. Ultimately, the Registered Nurse is working towards a wound which is free of infection and, therefore, completely healed. When cleaning the wound area, the Registered Nurse should use asepsis/sterile technique so the wound is free of all microorganisms. When cleansing a wound, always start with the cleanest area; never return to an area you have previously cleaned. Be sure to...

Partial Encryption on Fly

...A NOVEL APPROACH TO IMPLEMENT DISK SECURITY USING PARTIAL DISK ENCRYPTION Anurag Sharma M L Smitha Tarun T Arya Minal Moharir Information Science and Engineering RV College of Engineering The main objective of the paper is to develop an efficient and cost effective method for Hard Disk Drive(HDD) Security. The task is implemented using Partial Disk Encryption (PDE) with Advanced Encryption Standards(AES) for data security of Personal Computers(PCS) and Laptops . The focus of this work is to authenticate and protect the content of HDD from illegal use. The proposed method is labeled as DiskTrust. FDE encrypts entire content or a single volume on your disk. Symmetric key uses same key for encryption as well for decryption. DiskTrust uses these two technology to build cost effective solution for small scale applications. Finally, the applicability of these methodologies for HDD security will be evaluated on a set of data files with different key sizes. KEYWORDS- INFORMATION SECURITY, INTEGRITY, CONFIDENTIALITY, AUTHENTICATION, ENCRYPTION. I. INTRODUCTION In today’s world information security is an important concern for every individual. People spend hundreds of dollars in protecting their data to stay in the competition, and any leakage of crucial data can result in unrecoverable loss. Information security is the most important form of security even before network security, as information stored securely can only be transmitted securely over a network, there......

...MODULE 2, ASSIGNMENT 4 December 12, 2011 Topic: Standard Costing, Variance Analysis and Budgets Overview The main topics for Assignment 4 are standard costing, variance analysis, and budget creation. Accountants of all management levels often have to analyze variance reports in order to help in the decision-making process. Through the differentiation of costs into fixed and variable classifications, managers are better able to construct break-even charts and other decision-making and control tools. Understanding cost breakdown can better determine where the inefficiencies of the operations lie, and determine the first step towards enhancing the efficiency of an operation. In addition, cost analysis helps toward the creation of budgets and forecasts. An effective budget or forecast is necessary for an organization to make optimal use of the resources available to it. Variance analysis reports are very predominant in manufacturing organizations. When variance analysis is conducted properly (e.g., on time and at the proper level), it can be an effective control against further cost and schedule problems that may jeopardize the successful completion of a product. In this assignment, candidates will learn why standard cost systems are used, how standards for material and labour are set, how material, labour and overhead variances are calculated, and how desired levels of attainability affect standard settings. Learning Outcome The candidates will interpret the results of a......

Ma2 Assignment 3

...Assignment 3 Question 1 Question 2 Question 3 a) It would be beneficial for the company as a whole if logs were transferred to the Sawing Division at the suggested price of $61.50 per log. CM from selling externally = $75 - $40.50 - $9.50 = $25/unit $25 x 10,000 units = $250,000 CM from selling to Sawing division = $122-Trasnfer costs from Harvesting-Production costs = $122-40.50-9.50-35-4.5-2.5 = $30/unit $30 x 10,000 units = $300,000 $300,000 - $250,000 = $50,000 The CM is greater by $5 per unit if selling to the Sawing division. b) If the logs were transferring to Sawing division at $61.50 per unit, the company as a whole would still be making profits. In the meantime, the Harvesting division manager might become less inclined to perform at maximum ability while each unit could have been sold externally for $75 per unit. The Sawing division manager would not be affected since the transfer costs from Harvesting division stays the same. c) Both the maximum and minimum transfer price would be $75, the market price, since now both the Harvesting and Sawing divisions are operating at full capacity. Below $75, contribution would not be maximized; the opportunity cost of contribution margin forgone would increase. Also, the objectives of goal congruence and optimal sub-unit performance would not be met. A Partial Remembrance of a Puerto Rican Childhood

...Nelson Luis Acosta Prof. Zuromski ENC1101 12 February 2015 Dear Judith Ortiz Cofer, Coincidentally you and I have a lot in common. In your essay "A Partial Remembrance of a Puerto Rican Childhood" most of what you wrote about as far as how your mama indirectly yet quite efficiently tried to instill moral values and life lessons was just how I was raised. Reading this adolescent recollection of yours got the gears turning in my head and sparked a similar memory I had as a child as well as all the similarities you and I have in our character. My own grandma, who everyone called Mamita, was single handedly one of the greatest, most influential women I've had in my life and I'm sure by the way you wrote about your Mama that you admire her and could easily say the same. Mamita literally took care of everyone single handedly too. Her husband passed away when my mother was only 2 years old, so she played the role of a mother and a father. With a responsibility like that you can bet that whenever she spoke her audience was giving her their full attention. Our abuelas would have gotten along like little kids on a playground. Not only do they have similar attributes, they both took great pleasure in their café con leche time and both happen to be Puerto Rican!  Although Mamita was firm, the words she spoke were never harsh or belittling and it seemed to me that your grandma was the same, an inference I immediately made about your Mama was that she was very caring yet stern and...

...Tanglewood Case 1 In: Business and Management Tanglewood Case 1 To: Donald Penchiala, the Director of Staffing Services RE: Tanglewood Retail Case January 18, 2012 Every organization in the global economy has to develop a strong staffing strategy if they wish to remain competitive and be successful. Tanglewood Retail Stores is one of the largest retailers among 12 regions locally and oversees. After examining the report that you provided me, I have analyzed the staffing strategy and would like to provide you with my recommendations. Acquire or Develop Talent: After reviewing the Tanglewood Case along with exhibit 1.7 in Part One of our text Strategic Staffing, I feel the staffing levels and quality listed and the need for developing talent and exceptional workforce that Tanglewood currently has is one of its greatest assets and will play into a key staffing strategy. Tanglewood has differentiated itself from its competition in its development of an organizational culture that provides employees with a level of expertise that far exceeds its competition. Looking at any successful organization you will notice that their internal culture is a key factor in its ability to meet organizational goals. It is clear that Tanglewood has a family/team oriented environment. For instance, people from the same region as the store will have better knowledge of its clientele and are a better fit because they know the culture of the environment and live in the same......

Partial Conclusion

Partial Healthcare Business Analysis

...Health Care Business Analysis Tina Leggett HCS / 577 July 31, 2016 University of Phoenix Health Care Business Analysis When creating a new budget within the healthcare field it can be somewhat difficult. It is very important that effective management of the financial practices be utilized when making a spreadsheet or balance sheet. All data related to the budget should be used even if some of the numbers or minor items do not look like much but still have an effect towards the numbers. An operating budget should be presented with all the appropriate schedules and statements that are supporting the documentation that is presented from the hospital or entity (Finkler,2013) Creating the 2010 Budget Budgeting for a hospital or other entity is created to budget and prepare for the process of budget building and to monitor the budget for any errors throughout the year.
