The Motorcycle Diaries The Motorcycle Diaries was a telling tale about two men and their journey through South American. Unbeknownst too many viewers are the origins of a story that clings on to the legend of Che Guevara. Both Ernesto Guevara also referred to as Fuser, and his companion Alberto Granado set out on an adventure to see as much as Latin America as they possibly can. Fuser is about to get his medical degree while Alberto is a biochemist. These characters stop nothing short of exploiting their professions to garner sympathy or shelter throughout their journey. Fuser seems to be the more tamed of the too, he seems more focused with the well-being of the people he encounters (example the old man with the tumor), and does not use his profession to lie to people. Alberto on the other hand is more of a rumbustious character. He is loud unafraid to voice his opinion and is quick to challenge Fuser on what he believes to be a better way of handling situations.
The turning point of the film is when they both encounter peasants who are being persecuted for their communistic beliefs. Fuser had a moment of realization from this and is concerned over the mistreatment of these people. Towards the films conclusion his trip to Peru enlightens his thinking and he acknowledges that the subdivision in a society are what are suppressing lepers. He makes his final journey through the river despite him having asthma. The story concludes with fuser admitting that he knew all along that Albertos birthday was in fact at a later day, he was just going along with Alberto for the ride. I personally feel that this film in fact teaches the story behind the Marxist general Che Guevara. It provides a window to the man that existed before he became an individual with such radical views. The audience can appreciate the history and the transgression that the character went through which ultimately leads him to be such a revolutionary icon.…...

Freedom Writers Diary Review

...Freedom Writers Diary Review The movie “Freedom Writers” is a true story about a white teacher trying to make a difference in a room crammed with black, Latino and Asian high school freshmen. It is defiantly a challenge, especially for a first time teacher. Hillary Swank is the main actress and she plays Erin Gruwell, a 23-year-old teacher in 1994 assigned to teach freshman and softmore English at Wilson High School in Long Beach, Calif. By the time Erin steps into her classroom, two years after the riots for integration, the school had changed greatly. This film portrays teachers in two ways, one way is the set in their way teacher and the other is willing to do whatever they can to make students succeed. In the beginning of the movie Mrs. Gruwell said “God by the time you’re defending a kid in a court room the battle is already lost, I think the real fighting should happen here in the class rooms.” In her statement she is foreshadowing two things, one is the real fights that happen in her class, and the other is what she does to help these students succeed. She later said “I know I have a lot to learn as a teacher but I’m a really good student….and I really want to be here!” This is a great statement by her and proves she could be an excellent teacher. Threw out the movie she did learn a lot, and applied what she learned. Mrs. Gruwell had a rough start. The kids wouldn’t respect her, they were fighting in the room, and there were gang problems brought into her class. At...

Diary

...Civil Rights Diary Natasha Coleman History 145 June 18, 2013 Dr. Lisa Antaki Civil Rights Diary The 1960’s was a time of great anticipation, struggle and change. I am going to write an account of those times as told to me by my mother, Mazie Brewer Wilmer. The period I will cover in her life happens between 1963-1965. She was fifteen years old, had been born in Camden, Wilcox County, Alabama in January of 1948. In 2010, the population was approximately 2,100 which hasn’t changed much since the ‘60’s. I have fond memories of the annual summer vacation and Christmas holiday trips from Michigan to Alabama, part of the journey along the way brought us across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, located on US-80 and spans over the Alabama River. As I was preparing to write this diary, I discovered the bridge that my brother, sister and I would close our eyes while crossing was the site of major Civil Rights activity. Located in Selma, AL, it was named for a Confederate brigadier general, named Edmund Winston Pettus, he was also a U.S. Senator from Alabama. It is the site of Bloody Sunday which occurred on March 7, 1965. Peaceful, non-violent civil rights advocates were attacked at this site by armed officers. On March 11, 2013, it was recognized as a National Historic Landmark. My name is Mazie, I am the 8th child born to Rev. and Mrs. Zollie Edward Brewer. I became involved in civil rights events in my small community at a very early age, not even able to imagine at......

...RESEARCH PAPER ON GM Introduction "General Motors has no bad years, only good years and better years" (Sloan, 1972). This mantra established in 1950 by former GM president Harlow H. Motor

...Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of the Study A synchronous electric motor is an AC motor distinguished by a rotor spinning with coils passing magnets at the same rate as the power supply frequency and resulting rotating magnetic field which drives it. Another way of saying this is that it does not rely on slip under usual operating conditions and as a result, produces torque at synchronous speed. Synchronous motors can be contrasted with an induction, which must slip in order to produce torque. They operate synchronously with line frequency. As with squirrel-cage induction motors, speed is determined by the number of pairs of poles and the line frequency. Synchronous motors are available in sub-fractional self-excited sizes to high-horsepower direct-current excited industrial sizes. In the fractional horsepower range, most synchronous motors are used where precise constant speed is required. In high-horsepower industrial sizes, the synchronous motor provides two important functions. First, it is a highly efficient means of converting ac energy to work. Second, it can operate at leading or unity power factor and thereby provide power-factor correction. The operation of a synchronous motor is simple to imagine. The armature winding, when excited by a poly-phase (usually 3-phase) supply, creates a rotating magnetic field inside the motor. The field winding, which acts as a permanent magnet, simply locks in with the rotating magnetic field and rotates along......

And indeed, on May 8, Tesla announced a net income of more than $10mln on $560 mln in sales.2 Tesla had outsold both Nissan and GM in electric cars in the U.S.3 Its Model S had sold more than the BMW 7 and Audi A8 combined.4 Tesla raised its Model S sales target for its first full year from 20,000 to 21,000 cars.5 Over the next three months, its stock price almost tripled.6 In its 10 years since founding, Tesla had launched both a high-end limited edition “Tesla Roadster” and its “Model S” production car, and was now taking reservations on its upcoming “Model X” electric crossover SUV. Despite a public controversy about its range, the Model S had received the coveted Car of the Year award and earned the highest rating that Consumer Reports ever gave to a car, an astonishing feat for a company that was only at its second car. While some of its most visible EV competitors went bankrupt or halted production,7 Tesla became profitable. Elon Musk wanted Tesla to be a mass manufacturer of electric cars.8 Becoming profitable meant that that goal was within reach. Or was it not? The Car......

Diary

...January, 5th Dear Diary, I am extremely disappointed. I’ve just come back from the hospital where I do volunteer work. It was my first day. There I have to play with children who suffer from cancer, AIDS or other diseases that are not infectious. There are both boys and girls and they are so cute, so playful, and so happy you wouldn’t say they are ill. When I entered the room, I first saw a boy, a man, actually, which was solitary. The others were really cheerful. I made myself comfortable and I went to talk to him. He was a little bit surprised by my movement, but he gave me a shy smile. Then I found out that his name is Max and that he is 21 years old. Nothing unusual. I couldn’t understand why he is so reserved. So I summoned up my courage and I asked him. He sighed and his words were: „I have cancer and I am homosexual. Now you know. You are free to turn your back on me, as everyone else did”. Even though I knew where I was, I couldn’t say a word for a few seconds. And not because I didn’t know what to do and how to react, but I had this image stuck in my head, with all his relatives and friends walking away without a word. “People hit me, they cursed me, swore me, and I couldn’t do anything. They were too much. In a group of 30 people, 29 were against me”. A tear ran down his cheek. I couldn’t hear the voices and the noise around me. It was just the two of us. I took his hand and he calmed down. Not a word was said anymore. I just can’t believe. Is this the......

Literature review current through: Mar 2012. | This topic last updated: Apr 13, 2011. INTRODUCTION — Most patients in the terminal phase of a severe advanced illness such as cancer develop potentially devastating physical and psychosocial symptoms for weeks to months before death [1]. Patients admitted to tertiary palliative care units are likely to present with more frequent and severe symptoms compared with those admitted to community hospices or acute care hospital beds, although the frequency of symptoms is high in all groups (table 1). (See "Hospice: Philosophy of care and appropriate utilization".) Palliative care is an interdisciplinary medical specialty that focuses on preventing and relieving suffering and on supporting the best possible quality of life for patients and their families facing serious illness. The primary tenets of palliative care are symptom management; establishing goals of care that are in keeping with the patient’s values and preferences; consistent and sustained communication between the patient and all those involved in his or her care; psychosocial, spiritual, and practical support both to patients and their family caregivers; and......
