MODULE 1, ASSIGNMENT 3
September 12, 2013

Topics: Performance Management, Financial Management and Financial Reporting

Overview In this assignment, candidates get a chance to apply all the steps except for steps 6 and 9 in the Steps for Approaching Business and Corporate Strategy to a small business case. As mentioned previously, these steps provide candidates with a systematic approach for addressing a case involving business-level strategic issues. Applying this approach effectively is one of the important competencies that candidates will learn in the CMA Canada Professional Programs. The starting point for solving a business problem is to analyze the current situation and identify the problems that need to be addressed. A major component of the situational analysis is to take a close look at the environments within which an organization finds itself. One of the methods commonly used in such an environmental analysis is “SWOT” (an acronym for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats), which considers the strengths and weaknesses in the internal environment as well as the opportunities and threats in the external environment. Candidates can refer to the required reading Situational Analysis Tools mentioned below for more information on how to go about doing a SWOT analysis. The next major step is to identify the issues and analyze various alternatives for addressing the major issues. In this case, a shortage of available cash is a major issue and needs to be addressed. Therefore, one of the main topics for this assignment is cash flow management, i.e. managing the movement of money into and out of a business. Many supervisors and/or managers who oversee functions such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, and finance are directly involved in cash flow management within their organizations. In some smaller companies, a single individual may manage…...

...or her problems. Module 3: Assignment 2: Interview and Background Research 3 Causative factors of the disorder There are two general causes for antisocial personality disorder, genetics and environment. Personality disorders start developing early in life, usually from stressful life events and or abuse. It is believed that there may be link between an early lack of empathy and developing antisocial personality disorder. (Mayo Clinic, 2013) Personality disorders are more commonly thought to be caused from a combination of these two factors. A person born with the certain gene and then neglected is going to make them more likely to develop this disorder. (Butcher, 2010) A study done showed that, “Maternal withdrawal in infancy predicted the extent of ASPD features 20 years later, independently of childhood abuse. In middle childhood, disorganized attachment behavior and maladaptive behavior at school added to prediction of later ASPD features. Antisocial features in young adulthood have precursors in the minute-to-minute process of parent-child interaction beginning in infancy.” (Shi, Bureau, Easterbrooks, Zhao, & Lyons-Ruth, 2012). It is also a possibility that substance abuse can cause this disorder. Substance abuse is very common in those with antisocial personality disorder but it is unclear but a great concern if substance abuse leads to this disorder of vice versa.(Straussner, & Nemenzik, 2007). ...In recent years, it has become an increasingly popular practice for drug companies to perform their clinical testing of new drugs in foreign countries that might not have the consumer protections or product liability laws present in the United States. Please answer each of the following questions using a theory studied in Module 2 specifically and thoroughly and using examples and facts from the readings and resources. 1. Are drug companies that test experimental drugs in foreign countries acting ethically? Drug companies that test experimental drugs in foreign countries are not acting ethically. Testing of experimental drugs should be done in the host country where the drugs are being manufactured. A major ethical dilemma that is being looked at with this is that the foreign countries that these clinical trials are happening in are not fully educated on the risks or fully understand what they are getting themselves into. After reading the articles many things stood out that these countries may not know what they are signing up for. Anil Netto quoted in the article titled “Health-Asia: Ethics in Outsourcing Drug Trials Questioned,” that by doing these clinical trials in foreign countries, drug companies are “exploiting the healthy who are strapped for cash and the sick who seek cheap or free remedies.” In regards to the utilitarian theory, testing drugs in foreign countries would prove to be unethical. Utilitarianism more specifically act utilitarianism tells us......

...1. Report the sample you selected and the question that was explored in the study. * There is a correlation between x and y. The scatter chart shows that the more hours a student studies the higher their grade percentage will be. 2. Report the r2 linear correlation coefficient and the linear regression equation produced in the Excel spreadsheet. * The linear correlation coefficient is positive. * The r^2 linear correlation coefficient is 0.785 * The linear regression equation is y=1.5608x+55.767 3. What would be the value of Pearson’s r (simply the square root of r2)? * R^2 is 0.785, which means that 78.5% of the total variation in y can be explained by the relationship between x and y.  The other 21.5% remains unexplained.   4. Would Pearson’s r be positive or negative? What does this imply about the relationship between the factors in this study? * Pearson’s r is positive and equal to 1.0. Since Pearson r is positive this implies that there is a strong correlation between x and y. 5. What is the implication of any correlation found between the variables in the study you picked? * X & Y have a strong positive correlation. It seems the more hours put into studying the better the grade percentages will be. 6. Does this correlation imply a causal relationship? Explain. * There is a casual relationship, because on the graph it shows positive correlation, because the slopes are increasing. That implies if you spend......

...SUCCESSES IN TECHNOLOGY Successes in Technology Leah Andersen Allied American University Author Note This paper was prepared for SOC250, Module 1 Homework Assignment taught by Instructor Jesse Kleis. Successes in Technology Technology has had a major impact on human successes over the past million years. Possibly the single most influential event in the public’s interest when it comes to science and technology, would be the Apollo II mission. The space field has had a major impact and also has provided us with the ability to learn new technology and advance in our latest technologies. Since the first man walked on the moon, science has advanced at a rapid pace; nuclear power, television, jet engines, satellites and computers proved that only the scope of our imaginations could possibility limit our progress. Ever since the first human walked on the moon, humans have looked beyond the moon to Earth’s neighbor planet, Mars. The Apollo mission showed us looking back at a fragile planet adrift in a void, making us second guess who we were and are in terms of species as well as our species’ place in a vast universe. Discovery of alien life, amounting to nothing more but only a string of protein or some nucleotides, most certainly changed our perspective on the role of life in the cosmos. The space technology has vastly changed our life and our way of living. The automobile is a major human success as well when it comes to technology. The......

WHITAKER, III LU23755920 LIBERTY UNIVERSITY LYNCHBURG, VA JULY 6, 2015 1 TABLE OF CONTENTS INTRODUCTION………………………………………………………………………………2 2 Introduction The question of what does it mean to be well-educated is addressed by author Alfie Kohn. Mr. Kohn expresses, “It’s not enough to memorize facts or score well on tests but a good education is hard to define.” The author shares some personal reflections about his wife Alisa, as an illustration in building a foundation to help provide the answer to the question, what does it mean to be well-educated. Mr. Kohn outlines his wife’s educational background, her current employment, and certain perceived deficiencies in her education. The author’s conclusions are markedly different than my own, inasmuch as I am convinced that to be well educated means to possess a balanced education that exhibits orthodox academic achievement, and practical knowledge that contributes to the fulfillment and enjoyment of daily life. The author shares: When I met Alisa, she was......
