Measuring Quality

...Measuring Quality Quality monitoring is becoming an accepted method for purchasers, patients, and providers to evaluate the value of health care expenditures. Important advances in the science of quality measurement have occurred over the past decade, but many challenges remain to be addressed so that quality monitoring may realize its potential as counter force to the demands of cost containment. The structure of the U.S. Health care system is changing rapidly, primarily in response to concerns about the increased costs of health services. Many of these changes create disruptions in the way health care professionals are allowed to provide care and the way in which patients may seek care. Although these disruptions may inconvenience clinicians and patients in the short run, ultimately we want to know the longer-term effect of these new strategies on the health of the population. Quality assessment offers one method for evaluating the impact of changes in the organization and financing of health services on health. If there were a precise relationship between price and quality, we would only need to know how to translate premium prices and other charges into quality units. However, because there is no such direct relationship, a separate set of quality measures is essential (Soumerai, Avorn, Ross-Degnan, & Gortmaker, 1987). Expanding the information available on quality requires the development of valid measurement tools and routine access to the right data. The......

Measuring Porosity of a Rock Using Helium Porosity Meter

...depends upon various factors. But quality of reservoir rock, either good or poor, rests largely on porosity. Porosity is the small voids and space between the grains of the rocks and often denotes with percent. Mathematically it is volume of the voids divided by total volume of the rock. Knowledge of porosity is of extreme importance for understanding the reservoir characteristics and behaviour. (Schlumberger, 2012) Conventional laboratory experiments can be used to determine the porosity of the reservoir by injecting fluids, usually Helium gas, into their core plug samples. These experiments only measure the effective porosity, which is of the main interest to petroleum engineers. This report documents a laboratory experiment for measuring porosity and density of 6 different core plugs using a helium porosimeter, a mass balance and an electronic ruler. The report outlines theoretical concepts of porosity underlying the experiment and the experimental setups and procedures. This report also documents the results and calculations furthermore it goes through a brief discussion and conclusion of those results. 3-Theory Porosity is defined as the ratio of void volume of the rock to the bulk volume. Pore spaces in the rock are filled with fluids which could be oil, gas or water. Porosity is essentially needed to estimate the potential volume of hydrocarbons in the reservoir rocks. Well sorted (grains of approximately all one size) materials have higher porosity than......

Measuring Crime

...Measuring Crime in the United States Kyra Pettit CJA/204 August 5, 2013 Dr. Wafeeq Sabir Measuring Crime in the United States In the following paper, these criminal justice students will address the three major points of crime measurement in the United States. Even though there may be changes of crime statistics, but not changes in the crime rate; that is because crime can be measured in numerous ways. Two measuring systems being the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) and Uniform Crime Reports (UCR), report criminal information, but do not reflect it all. Because of the different factors that go into reporting crime some crimes go unreported. Instruments Crime is measured through statistics in the United States. Statistics help develop and see how new laws and programs are working. The three statistical reports used to measure crime in the United States are the (UCR) Uniform Crime Report, (NCVS) National Crime Victimization Survey, and (NIBRS) The National Incident Based Reporting System (Schmalleger, 2011). All of the crime instruments used can only be as accurate as the sources given to them. Programs and Purpose The FBI’s statistical program is the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program administered by the Department of Justice which measures the impact of the crime, magnitude, and nature of the crime. The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics. This survey randomly selects individuals that......

Measuring G

...Report: Acceleration of gravity, g Introduction In this experiment you will be measuring the acceleration of gravity using a pendulum like apparatus. The value of g is an important issue as it forms the basis for many mathematical theories and allows for life to exist on this planet. If we keep in contact with the Earth, ordinary tasks will be very difficult. Establishing due value for the acceleration of gravity allows to utilise many of theories that could allow us to solve the big problems. Everyday life would be difficult if we did not have gravity, we would be constant free fall and stopping us to function as a society. The concept of zero gravity can be seen on the International Space Station (ISS), however theoretically they should be not experiencing as they as still in the Earth's gravity field however as the constantly circling the Earth to stay above the surface this causes a state of free fall allowing for the zero gravity to occur in the ISS. You will be using this setup to calculate the acceleration due to gravity using pendulum motion. The investigation is designed to demonstrate: • Air friction • Pendulum motion • Acceleration due to gravity Historical Context: Gravity has been long-known concept, first conceived Isaac Newton with the famous moment of the apple dropping on his head. With that remarkable accident, he derived the law of universal gravitational attraction. F =G ( m1 m2 ) d 2 F = Attraction force between two objects (N) G = Universal......

Measuring Disease

...Measuring Disease The most common methods for assessing the amount of disease in a population are look at morbidity (illness) or mortality (death). There are 2 common methods used to measure morbidity; incidence and prevalence. Incidence The incidence of a disease is the rate at which new cases occur in a population at risk during a specific period. If the population is stable, the formula used is: Incidence = Number of cases / Population at risk x time during which cases were ascertained If the population changes during the period where new cases are measured, the incidence is calculated using "total person years at risk". This is the sum of the new cases during the period which each person in the population was at risk during the measurement period. The formula is therefore Incidence = Number of new cases / Total person years at risk Example: If there were 17 cases of flu in a school of 1000 in a 2 years, this is an incidence of 8.5/1000 per year. Prevalence The proportion of a population who have a disease at a point in time is the prevalence of disease. It is often expressed as a percentage. The 'point in time' can be a single examination [point prevalence], but is often a longer time scale in order to give a better estimate of the numbers with the disease [period prevalence]. Prevalence = (cases/population) * 100 Prevalence is used for diseases that are chronic conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis. Example: In a nursing home......

The two types of programs are the Uniform Crime Reporting Program (URC) and National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). Which both have valuable details about the crime problems that are going on in the world.Since both programs are used to do different things and methods, both do focus on different crimes and there aspect. The data that they produce together is used for comprehensive crime problems that are going on in the world. The UCR program is directed by the FBI and collects different data on crimes like, murders, no negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny theft motor vehicle theft, and arson. Which the law enforcers reports the crime and arrest data for other crimes categories. The data is updated on a monthly basis. Measuring Crime

...Measuring Crime CJA/204 February 16, 2015 Measuring Crime A crime is an act that breaks a law that relates to how to behave in society. The harm caused by the act is seen to be against society as a whole, not just a specific person. More specifically, a crime is an act (something you do) or omission (something you don't do) that is against the law and punishable upon conviction. When it comes to crimes being committed, they are supposed to be reported, but in most instances, some crimes are not reported. This is due to the victims not reporting because of fear or simply not reported what has happened to the police. Most people do not understand the importance of reporting crimes. Without these crime reports, it is very difficult for law enforcement agencies to collect crime data and measure crimes. Though, some crimes are not reported, there are some that are. This as which makes it very helpful to law enforcements agencies when it comes to collecting and measuring crime data. The core of measuring crimes is through surveys and official records. There are several surveys and records that are used to measure and monitor crime across the nation. Crime Measureable Instruments According to "U.S. Department Of Justice — Federal Bureau Of Investigation" (2010), “The U.S. Department of Justice administers two statistical programs to measure the magnitude, nature, and impact of crime in the Nation: the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program and the National Crime......

Measuring Crime

...Measuring Crime Measuring crime is something that the United States does to see if the the programs they have in place are making a difference and helping to deter crime. A lot of time people will look at statistics and think because the percentage is decreasing, and that not always the case. In this paper I will explain the instruments used, programs and purpose of measuring crime, and myth's vs reality Crime rates. Crime is measured through statistics in the United States. Statistics help develop and see how new laws and programs are working. The three statistical reports used to measure crime in the United States are the (UCR) Uniform Crime Report, (NCVS) National Crime Victimization Survey, and (NIBRS) The National Incident Based Reporting System ("Fbi Uniform Crime Rate", 2012) . All of the crime instruments used can only be as accurate as the sources given to them. Crime rates and arrest rates are difficult for a law enforcement agency to produce to the high volume of calls received. Some examples of calls that do not require an arrest include lost pets, individuals needing medical assistance, and noise complaints. Each agency must make an organized effort to make contact with the individuals making the calls with high and low priority due to the unseen or unreported information at the caller’s location. The law enforcement community has also created an organization devoted to crime reports known as the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) data is based on...

Measuring Crime

...Measuring Measuring Crime Crime measurement and statistics for police departments are very important when it comes to money allotment, staffing needs or termination and it is also used to determine the effectiveness of new laws and programs. There are three tools used to measure major crime in the United States: Uniform Crime Reports, National Crime Victimization Survey and the National Incident Based Reporting System- which is currently being tested to replace the Uniform Crime Reports. Although there different tools used to measure crime, crime rates can be deceiving. Each different tool reports a different type of rate, crime rates, arrest rates, clearance rates and recidivism rates. The Uniform Crime Report is used by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as an annual publication that summarizes the rate of reported crimes through the United States. It reports on the eight major crimes: Murder, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny theft, auto theft and arson. Different law enforcement agencies report to this data voluntary on a monthly basis to the FBI. Measuring Profitability

... Measuring Profitability Pusat laba diukur kinerjanya berdasarkan profit yg diperoleh mereka.
