“the Teenage Years Are the Best Years of One’s Life.” Do You Agree?

...“The teenage years are the best years of one’s life.” Do you agree? “Life is 10 percent what you make it and 90 percent how you take it.” These were the words of the late Irving Berlin, one of America’s most prolific songwriters in history. Indeed, one’s perception on his or her best years of life would largely depend on how he or she regards life. In my perspective, the idea of the best years would be the years where one experiences the most happiness, where the years are filled with love and laughter, while teenage years refers to the age 13 to 19 period. To many, the teenage years are without doubt the best years of their life, however to that many number of people, there are many more out there who do not agree. In a general overview, there are many cases that supports or contradicts the statement, so let us go further into this issue and take a stand. The teenage years have often been considered as the carefree years, free of worries and responsibilities. Being carefree has also been cited as one of the reasons that made teenage years the best years of one’s life. However, to what extent is that true? In my opinion, the best indication of being carefree is stress levels. According to a survey by the American Psychological Association, American teenagers experience their highest level of stress on an average of 6.5days per month. This is considerably low compared to countries like China and Singapore, where the competitiveness resulted in teenagers......

Life Defining Moments

...Life Defining Moments My friend & I were in the car, on our way to Glorietta 4 to catch movie with the rest of the group. She then asked me if some life-defining moments ever occurred. I wasn’t sure what she was talking about & I didn’t have a quick answer for that. I remember her telling me that one of her life defining moments was looking at a framed picture by her bedside, a picture of her and her gorgeous boyfriend, her arms around his neck, in a candid pose. Or something like that. I remember laughing, sine I could have thought of that too. She then explained that a life-defining moment was something you’d like to happen in the future no matter how far-off or crazy it might be. It was like a goal of some sort, but it’s just something conjured up to tickle the imagination. We didn’t dwell on that for long, for the conversation reverted to Harry Potter’s new adventures and the movie that were about to watch that afternoon. I totally forgot it, until a kabarkada now based in Seattle shared her own life-defining moment through e-groups, after that friend of mine (whom I watched the movie with) shared a brand-new one. They were all seeing themselves as successful IT Professionals in power suits rushing from their pad to their office in Manhattan’s Upper West Side. They were either carrying Loius Vitton bags or their slim Compaq notebooks, while talking with a client on their top-of-the-line mobile phones and the, most expensive Armani shades protecting their...

One Significant Moments of My Life

...2013 One Significant Moment in My life America has been always my greatest adventure and my greatest fear. Like others international students, I was very nervous about the culture, the people, and the country itself because I have never traveled to a foreign country before. How people are going to take me? Will I be ignored by people because I am from different cultures? Will I be able to make friends? Will I be able to adjust to that new life? The question that was stuck in my mind, but I didn’t have any definitive answers. This all started when I was only sixteen years old. I have been hearing that there are many events in life, which can change their life in a way that they have never expected before. I have never trusted those words until now. As for me, I think the major event that changed my life is when I moved from Bangladesh to America for better education. On a Sunday morning, I was playing outside with my cousin. Suddenly, my father calls me inside, gives me a bunch of papers and offers me to go study abroad for my higher education. Studying aboard was my childhood dream; however, before that, my parents never wanted me to leave my country. My mom is the one who always stop my father for giving me permission to study abroad. After all that , when my father finally decided to let me study abroad in the United States of America, I was very excited and I agreed right away. Coming to the United States of America was a big change in my life. I wanted to come to......

Essay on a Particular Moment in My Life

...This week I have to finish my rough draft that I had wrote in week two and turn it in to a final essay. In week two I wrote a rough draft about a particular moment that had a special moaning on my life. A special meaning on my life has been becoming a mother. I was young when I had become a mother for the first time, but even thaw I was young I would not chance it for the world. I was eighteen years old when I become a mother to a healthy, smart and beautiful little girl, her name is Hayley Danielle. Once I had my daughter Hayley she had made me realize that becoming a mother at the age of eighteen was not so bad. Eighteen months later I gave birth to a smart, healthy and handsome baby named Austin Wayne. Having two children by the time I was almost twenty years old, made me realize that they need to grow up and have morals and know that respect, education and that family is everything. When I was twenty-four years old I gave birth to another smart, healthy and beautiful little girl named Kaylan Faith. All three of my children are my world. I teach them all three to not be mean to one another, to respect their elders and to pay attention in school. I tell my children that I want them to grow up and have a great education. I have explained to my children and I will always explain to my children that having a great education will help them be able to take care of them self’s and be able to support their own families when they grow up and have a family. All three of my......

How to Live the Best Life You Can

...HOW TO LIVE THE BEST LIFE YOU CAN Crystel Santos 1. Start off by looking at yourself. Not in comparison to anyone else, but just look at yourself. Ask yourself these questions. * Who am I? * Where do I currently stand in my life? * What role do I play in others’ lives? (Sister, mother, friend, role model, teacher, partner, etc..) * Am I living to my fullest potential? * Am I happy? Fulfilled? At peace? * Why, or why not? 2.One huge mistake people make in their lives is sheltering themselves from pain. Hiding from the truth. Denying reality. DEATH exists. Become at peace with that. MURDERS and RAPE and DISEASES happen. Accept it. Once you face the facts that life isn't all rainbows and butterflies, you will be more prepared to handle tough situations, and you won't take disappointment as such a shock. 3.Determine which people in your life are actually worth your care. Eliminate all the fake friends and the users from your list, and list only those who make you feel happy when you're around them. Now make an effort to spend more time around those people, and less time around the people who do no good for you or your life. It's okay to be a little selfish in this sense every once in a while. Just be sure you give back an equal amount to what you take (and that doesn't only mean physical things, but emotional needs, as well). 4.Look on the dark side. Yes, this isn't a typo, the DARK side. Because often times, when......

...constitution? The right to privacy refers to the concept that one's personal information is protected from public scrutiny. U.S. Justice Louis Brandeis called it "the right to be left alone." While not explicitly stated in the U.S. Constitution, some amendments provide some protections. The right to privacy most often is protected by statutory law. For example, the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protects a person's health information, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) enforces the right to privacy in various privacy policies and privacy statements. The right to privacy often must be balanced against the state's compelling interests, including the promotion of public safety and improving the quality of life. Seat-belt laws and motorcycle helmet requirements are examples of such laws. And while many Americans are quite aware that the government collects personal information, most say that government surveillance is acceptable. Constitutional rights 4. How has court doctrine and republic opinion on gay rights changed over the last decade or so? The right to an abortion and to same sex unions is based on a right to privacy that the court has found in the constitution. A few limitations on abortion rights have been permitted....

...Best At Life Triathlon Competition Before starting the triathlon we had to recruit 5 people to be part of it. After, we determined who was going to take part, we had to come up with the 3 triathlon games. One had to have units in time, so the game we chose was; how long can you stand on one foot after being spun around. The second had to be in length or height, so the game was: How far can you hop. Finally the last game was sucesses out of 10, the game we chose was; how many paper balls can you shoot into a garbage can that’s 10feet away. In order to get all of our data we each tried each game three times and wrote down our data in a table such as: EVENT 1 (time): How long can you stand on one foot, after being spun around? ...INSTITUTE TITLE: SIMPLE MOMENT EXPERIMENT 1. Objectives The objectives of the experiments are to demonstrate the equilibrium of moments. 2. Abstract This report presents the demonstration of the equilibrium of moments using MM 102 simple moments apparatus ESSOM Co. Limited. This equipment provides a simple easy to understand experiment on the equilibrium of moments. Several loads can be put on the beam at various positions. The student has to determine the moment necessary to overcome this rotation and keep the beam level. This experiment is done by putting a specific weight on the load hanger 1 and 3. Weight on load hanger 4 is put and moved until the beam is in equilibrium. The steps are repeated and all the results are jotted down into a table. Based on the results, equilibrium of the beam is influenced by the weight and distance on each hanger. Figure 1: MM 102 ESSOM Co. Limited 3. Introduction The purpose of the experiment was to determine the equilibrium of moments. A lever is a simple machine consisting of a beam pivoted at a fixed hinge or fulcrum. The lever arm of a force applied to a solid is the distance from the fulcrum to the line of action of this force. Equilibrium is reached when the algebraic sum of the moments of forces in relation to the fulcrum is zero. The Unit for studying Equilibrium of Moments on a two arm lever provides a simple way of understanding experiments on the equilibrium of moments. The Unit for......

...The Best Four Years of Your Life Growing up you always hear from adults and current college students that college is one of the best experiences of your life. It is your motivation all through out school to do your homework, study and get good grades so you are able to get in to any college you want. I remember my first college tour it was to University of South Carolina instantly I fell in love. Once I experienced the campus for the first time I knew it was a place I could call home. Getting my acceptance letter was one of the best days of my life before I knew it summer was over and it was move in day. Little did I know there were a lot of things I did not know about being a college student that I am gradually starting to figure out. There are a lot of changes that come with going to college and the way in which you deal with them all depends on you as a person. One of the hardest problems people tend to face coming to college is going to a new place where you really don’t know that many people and there are a ton of new faces. Through out my life I’ve always had to move a lot with my dad being in the military, I hated it at the time but now I am grateful for it because it made me who I am today. Always having to make new friends made me outgoing and not afraid to walk up to someone new and start talking to them. It made me not afraid to try new things and made me learn how to adapt to new places and new schools. Coming to college is such an exciting experience because......

Of Life Altering Moments

...The glare of my cell phone lit up the dark car. I grinned to myself as I saw a particularly funny meme. We had made a stop on our way back from dinner at Nani Ama’s. It was Eid, probably the most awaited event of the year, bound to be vibrant with promises of eidee, dinners, uplifted by unadulterated joy. Then something happened, marring Eid of the year 2015. It changed my life, that mere knock on my father’s window. “Phone dou, warna mein nai goli mar deni hai.” My blood ran cold. I froze, halting my ministrations, his nasally voice ringing in my ears, as he promised blood, if my father didn’t obey. Forcing myself to look up, I saw a sight I’ll never forget. Ever. The glow of my father’s Blackberry, the frozen picture of him and my sister beaming set as the background, finding its way out the window, towards the pair of hands, one curled around a black revolver, the other’s greedy fingers reaching towards the window. In that moment, it felt like such a disgusting betrayal of our family’s privacy, clenching my gut. I registered my father’s tense stance, shoulders set; alert. Seeing the ever assertive man helpless at the hands of a scrawny 20 year old brandishing a revolver, tilted my world in its axis. A thousand pictures played on a reel in my mind, of blood and gore, and a belligerent wave of emotion crashed: despair. I sat immobile, only aware of the horrifying scene unfolding before my eyes. “Ye wala nai, wou wala.” He drawled, cracking the deadly silence. My father......

Disappointing Moment in My Life

...Naw Hpaw Dr. James Sanders ENG101, 7:00 am 8 June 2016 Disappointing Moment in My Life Having worked three years as coordinator at the Karen Peace Support Initiative (Burma), a non-government organization that helps resettle displaced persons, I firmly believed I could communicate effectively with grass roots people and my superiors. But, sometimes life is full of disappointment. It came on December 11, 2012, as I sat in my office writing a report on training I had recently completed for some villages. Suddenly, in a very loud voice, my manager called me into his office where he was checking a report I had given him previously. As I stood beside him, his hand clutched a cup of coffee, while the other held my report. I remember the black jacket and shoes, and glasses, he was wearing. After several minutes, he put my report down and exchanged the coffee cup for a bowl of noodle soup. I thought he would explain why he called me, but he said nothing. It became very embarrassing just standing there. Minutes passed and still he didn't speak. Frustrated, I spoke to him politely as possible and asked if there was anything I could do or comment I could make. No response. As I stood close alongside, it became more difficult to smile. In fact, he began to frighten me, and his strange grin unnerved me, even as he kept eating his noodle soup. It was scary and very embarrassing. Finally, he spoke. "I need your wholehearted support in carrying out our project," he said, to which I......

The Most Embarrasing Moment of My Life

...THE MOST EMBARRASING MOMENT OF MY LIFE It was an inter-regional Senior High School soccer competition, and my school being the zonal champion was to play with another school to determine the regional champion. It was 7am and already one could tell the day is going to be sunny, as the sun had already started showing its ugly face. By 8am my team members had assembled at the school assembly hall, dressed in the school navy blue and golden yellow track suite, I was called to address my team mates. Since I was the captain of the school team, I was filled with anxiety and overwhelming thought as I began to speak to them. Although I do not remember exactly what I said to them, I felt everyone was energized with a winning spirit. We all entered the bus, prayed and began to sing till we got to the El-wak sports stadium. The stadium was filled with students from the participating schools, spectator institutions and the enthusiastic public spectators. As I led my team out of the bus to the changing room, I could hear cheers and rowdy applause from the crowd; the feeling was great as I felt the need to put up my very best. Achimota Senior High School, the opposing school also join in and we were all ready for the kick-off whistle. The Achimota school team were dressed in dark green and white jersey and we were in navy blue and golden yellow. We were the first to enter the field and fear grips were visible on my face when I saw the opposing team came out looking tall,......
