What is the motivation of your actions? What drives you to work, to study, to date, to do things you might not really want to do? The ultimate answer must be the desire to succeed. You want to succeed in your career, in relationship, in everything; that is what life is about, that is what keeps you moving.
There is not any correct list of rules that tells you dos and don’ts if you want to succeed. The key to success differs with each person; you have to find out yourself. However, to my mind, there are several rules, which have been proven by most of the successful people in our world, can be considered absolute right.
First of all, it is hard work that will lead you to success. Hard work alone may not make everything possible, but it is no doubt that without hard work, nothing is possible. Unless you believe you are as lucky as Paris Hilton, who was born in money. And even she had to work hard, in a certain way, to create her nowadays reputation!
Second, the importance of relationship and teamwork is never to be ignored. A person, who believes he can do everything by himself, will never be able to taste success. It is inevitable that you need others’ help in life. Remember an African proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together’’.
Success is a very picky and tricky target. If you want to go after him (or her), try to be patient and consistent. Do not give in, do not let go of your faith. However, being narrow-minded and letting your ego prevent yourself from realizing your mistakes are very different. Stay conscious and observant, then you will find out underlying truth. Just so you know, Edison failed 9000 times before he invented the electrical bulb.
Another important thing to keep in mind is to be confident, not arrogant. If you do not believe in yourself, who will? And once again, arrogance, ego’s close friend, can blind…...

...control of time. When the task can be justified as something that does not require an immediate attention, it no longer becomes an important task. In addition, one can still think of it as an important task even if it does not require an immediate attention, but the thought of it being so important becomes so overwhelming that the task becomes a stress factor. A task that was completed under stress usually lacks quality, compared to a task that he/she had better control performing by effective organization and self-motivation. Several steps can be taken in order to avoid procrastination and have an effective time management. 1. Set a specific goal: determine what outcome you expect to achieve by completing the task. 2. Set priorities: how important is this task? Is there another task that should take precedence over this? If so, write down the list of tasks to be completed, and list them in order of priority. 3. Organize: know what materials/resources are needed, and know where they can be located. Set up a folder (either in computer or paper) to record your task or keep copies of your work. 4. Plan/Schedule: set up a specific time for the task. If that is not possible, then set up a certain amount of time that you plan on working on the task. If is not always easy to set up a specific time for the task, but if you know that you have certain amount of time every day set aside for the task, you will have better control of your time. 5. Stick to the plan: a......

How to Succeed in Graduate School

...How to Succeed in Graduate School: A Guide for Students and Advisors Submitted to Crossroads, October 1994 Marie desJardins Abstract This paper attempts to raise some issues that are important for graduate students to be suc¬cessful and to get as much out of the process as possible, and for advisors who wish to help their students be successful. The intent is not to provide prescriptive advice – no formulas for finishing a thesis or twelve-step programs for be¬coming a better advisor are given – but to raise awareness on both sides of the advisor-student relationship as to what the expectations are and should be for this relationship, what a graduate student should expect to accomplish, common problems, and where to go if the advisor is not forthcoming. Introduction This article originated with a discussion I had with several women professors about the prob¬lems women face in graduate school, and how more women could be encouraged to go to grad¬uate school in computer science. Eventually, the conversation turned to the question of what these women could do in their interactions with women students to support and encourage them. I volunteered that over the course of my gradu¬ate career I had collected a variety of papers and e-mail discussions about how to be a good ad-visor, how to get through graduate school, and issues facing women. They were eager to get this material, and I told them I would sort through it when I got a chance. After......

How Does Singer Attempt to Justify Our Obligation to Help Distant Others in Need? Does He Succeed?

...How does Singer attempt to justify our obligation to help distant others in need? Does he succeed? Peter Singer is one of the most influential philosophers of the 20th century and this has to do with his ideas on poverty, animal rights, abortions and euthanasia. This question is about aid from wealthy countries to poorer ones and therefore is concentrating on his views on poverty and generally, global justice. I will start by outlining what Peter Singer says about helping others in need in far off countries and how he justifies the points he makes. I will then comment on whether I believe this to be a persuasive argument and will critique and support what he believes with my own opinions and justifications. This question is about global justice, which is the allocation of advantages and disadvantages between governments/states or between individuals of different countries. Therefore, global justice is not something that individuals worry about and the governments do not. Nor is it something that governments strive for but the individual does not value. They should be both working towards the same goal and this is where global justice theorists like Singer have their say. Singer in the article Famine, Affluence and Morality (1972) says that “Suffering and death from lack of food, shelter and medical care are bad” (p. 231) which I think and he thinks that you can take as a granted assumption. No one wants people to suffer from lack of basic amenities like that when most......

How My Military Career Will Help Me Succeed in My Master’s Degree

...How My Military Career will help me Succeed In my Master’s Degree The United States Military provides an excellent source for one looking for the knowledge and ability to move forward in school and complete their Master’s degree. This can be accomplished by the unique way that the military trains its troops to accomplish certain goals. It could be the way that the military requires all members to become adaptable to multiple situations that can arise. Also, the military requires all of the troops to become responsible at different degrees of rank. The first and foremost reason that the military provides the source to complete a Master’s degree would be the ability to have troop’s complete tasks. From day one in the military troops are required to complete multiple varieties of tasks. Not only are they required to complete the tasks but everyone must be able to complete most of these tasks the same way. This can be difficult as not one platoon, flight, group (depending on which branches they are in the groups are called different names) has the same diversity of people. The people will be vastly different; there will be different economic classes, different racial classes, and different educational classes just to name a few. All these different people arrive at one location and are expected to complete tasks the same way by the time that they graduate their basic military training. According to Vassillis Kosstakos’s article “Training users vs. Training soldiers:......

“Nordstrom: How to Succeed by Selling Just One Shoe”

...“Nordstrom: How to Succeed by Selling Just One Shoe” Identify the type of retailer that Nordstrom’s is classified as and describe the characteristics it shares with other retailers of this type. A store like Nordstrom has built a successful model on availability of knowledgeable salespeople, and other luxury or near-luxury retailers would be advised to pay attention. But a mass retailer like Target is not dependent on “high touch” customer service; rather, the most important things it can do to satisfy its shoppers are to ensure that goods are on the shelf and the checkout process is efficient. As more consumers migrate to “mission shopping” (walking into a store looking for a specific item), the self-service model becomes more important. Consumers are also becoming accustomed to more control through online and mobile shopping. But there is still a place for good CRM, even in the most hands-off models of “customer service.” Nordstrom is classified as an Upscale Department Store Chain. Today, Nordstrom is one of the nation's leading fashion retailers, offering a wide variety of fine quality apparel, shoes and accessories for men, women and children at stores across the country. Nordstrom shares the same characteristics as Macy’s, JC Penny's and Dillard's who also sells clothing, accessories, handbags, jewelry, cosmetics, fragrances, and in some locations, home furnishings. They all have built their thriving business on the principles of quality, value, selection and......

How to Succeed in Becoming a Crime Scene Investigatorr

...Robin B. Arslanian Professor Long English 122 12 October 2011 How to Succeed in Becoming a Crime Scene Investigator (CSI) The career as a Crime Scene Investigator, better known as CSI, can be very rewarding. To help catch the “bad guys”, to me, can be very satisfying. My goal is by the end of this paper you will learn how to become a CSI, the first steps to take once you get to a crime scene, what to expect in the courtroom and hopefully how much fun a career as a CSI can be. Being a CSI is definitely not for the faint at heart, some crime scenes can be gruesome. If you think being a CSI is like you watch on television you are sadly mistaken. Television glamorizes the long hours it takes to get DNA results or fingerprint identification. These types of results can take days to weeks. This can be very frustrating to the investigator who is being pressured by the prosecutors, the lead detective on the case and by the families for information. How you analyze the crime scene and what you find out in the lab can mean the difference between a conviction and an acquittal. Your education is the most important quality and resource you can have in any career. However, for a CSI it is of utmost importance. You will need at the very least an Associate’s degree in either Criminal Justice with a forensics background, or better yet a Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science. It is suggested that if you have a Bachelor’s degree you should go for your Masters; it will make you......

An innovative business model As we all know, Uber was created to solve the problem of unmatched rides demand and rides offer due to the difference in space and time in taxi industry. The basic pattern of Uber is to provide an information exchange platform as a form of mobile application to connect passengers who need rides with drivers who can provide ride services. It can be considered as a new application of peer-to-peer model in transportation industry. So Uber actually is a platform provider. This platform helps the form of ridesharing service, which is quite different from traditional way of taking......

Nordstrom: How to Succeed by Selling Just One Shoe

...Nordstrom: How to Succeed by Selling Just One Shoe Upscale retailer Nordstrom has been famous for superior customer service for over 100 years. Robert Spector, coauthor of The Nordstrom Way, says his favorite story is of a woman with one leg who jokingly bet a Nordstrom salesperson that he wouldn’t sell her just one shoe. He was more than happy to split up the pair, though, to her surprise, and Nordstrom gained a life-long customer in the process. “Who knows how many times she’s told that story?” Spector asks. “Do you think that that’s worth the price of a shoe? I do.” This kind of word-of-mouth publicity means that Nordstrom spends much less on traditional advertising than its competitors do. And the stories told by satisfied customers are much more persuasive than an ad in the Sunday paper. Patrick McCarthy, who was the first salesperson to generate $1 million, cites an example of a customer who was traveling and accidentally left his plane tickets in the store. An employee who found them paid for a cab to the airport with her own money so that the customer wouldn’t miss his plane. This, McCarthy says, is an example of “heroic service,” and at Nordstrom they expect nothing less. Industry observer Lior Arussy calls Nordstrom’s business strategy “greed through love.” They have perfected the art of focusing on the right customers and giving them undivided attention. A salesperson will often continue the relationship with a customer for years. They may exchange business......

How to Succeed in the Business World.

...different problem than what is actually causing distress if it is easier than dealing with the real problem. This step involves thinking about the following questions: 1. How is the current situation different from what I actually want it to be? 2. What do I actually want, or how do I actually want things to be? 3. What is preventing me from achieving my goals, or from things being the way I want them to be? It can be very helpful to write down the answers to these questions so that you are forced to clarify that the problem you are defining is the actual one you want to solve. Just thinking about things in your head can cause confusion and end up distracting you from the actual problem at hand. If you are dealing with more than one problem at a time, it may be helpful to prioritize them. That way you can focus on each one individually, and give them all the attention they require. Step 2 – Problem Analysis Once you have defined the problem, you need to think about it from different perspectives to insure that you understand all the dimensions of the problem. The following questions can be useful to help you analyze the problem. 1. How is this problem affecting me? 2. How is this problem affecting other people? 3. Who else is experiencing this problem? 4. How do other people deal with this problem?...

It has a challenge of incomplete and lopsided college achievement (Tough, p. 150).” Concerning this it is clear that the United States does not concentrate on one background when it comes to ones college admission. ...Acct 200 CRN # Group Research Project Sarbanes Oxley David, Eric, Jeff We have decided to analyze and research the managerial accounting theory of the Sarbanes Oxley Act. In this project we will describe how this act became in existence, the implementation of this act into major corporations, the organization problem that the act was developed to address, the specific pros and cons of this act, how companies have adjusted accounting process because of this act, and our position on the act. In analyzing and researching these different topics we will better understand the complexity and the specific foundations of the Sarbanes Oxley Act. As stated above we will first look at how the Sarbanes Oxley Act became in existence. The Sarbanes Oxley Act was passed into legislation in 2002 because of a series of corporate scandals. Some regard the Sarbanes Oxley Act as the most significant modification of securities regulation since the 1930’s. However, in the 1990’s, there were a number of amendments that significantly enlarged the regulatory powers of the Securities Exchange Commission. These acts were significant that led up to the implementation of the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002. These regulations include the Penny Stock Reform Act of 1990, the Securities Acts Amendments of 1990, the Market Reform Act of 1990, and the National Securities Markets Improvement Act of 1996. All of these acts have helped shape and form the original Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002. For years...
