The start of college is a new and different experience for all teenagers. They are keen to learn about their new surroundings and make new friends. Many teens are attracted to drinks, smoking and drugs to be considered as cool.
In a survey recently conducted on the abuse of alcohol, nicotine, and other harmful drugs, psychologists studied that the maximum number of teenagers involved in smoking, drinking and drugs are in the age group from fourteen to twenty
In today’s society, the pressure to drink, smoke or use drugs to fit in is all around our youth.
On the basis of survey, it was found that these teenagers drink one to two times per week because they enjoy it. They feel that it is also a chance to have fun and hang out with their friends. However, teens say they also do it out of boredom.
Often, teens are anxious to find an alternative way to have fun and to escape from the ‘boringness’ of movies and television. For this reason, often jump at the chance together in a large group to socialise. They are willing to pay their pocket money for a cup of beer, even if they known that drinking under age is illegal.
Drinking alcohol comes with many responsibilities. These teens define ‘responsible drinking’ as ‘having control of your actions’. In other words, teens drink as long as they know what they are doing. While drinking teenagers are often put into situations where they act irresponsible.
Teenagers are often caught driving while under the influence of alcohol. When teens get into the car, they often do not think about the consequences.
There is always that one thought in the back of everyone’s mind in this type of situation. They say, ‘nothing’ bad is going to happen. Sadly, when something does happen, most of the time the drunk driver is never the one to be injured. It is always the innocent passengers or the victims on the road.
Smoking is another large issue within the college community. Many teenagers who smoke have been smoking for a few years and started smoking at an early age.
Even though most people do not agree with teens smoking, a good percentage of adults smoke cigarettes. Therefore, the influence to smoke is constantly around teens and young children.
On the other hand, some teens also like to smoke socially. This usually occurs at parties or just when they feel like hanging around outside of their dorms.
Drug usage is the third huge area of abuse among students in college. The majority of these teens have tried the most common gateway drug, marijuana. Many of these teenagers said they have also tried mushrooms, ecstasy, and speed.
Peer pressure has nothing to do with their reasons for drinking, smoking, or doing drugs. They believe college is the time to live. Drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, and using drugs are not going to stop them from having the times of their lives. Only awareness can stop them.…...

The Crood's Social Psychology Reflection

...anything to change, he's still clinging to the idea or belief that it wasn't safe for them. I can relate this situation in the movie with the belief perseverance. It is when people tend to cling to ideas even when confronted or has even proved to be completly untrue. In this case, the father's relentess to accept the change his family is slowly learning. The character's that had a very opposing belief's schemas and judgements for me would be "grug" and "guy". Right from the start their belief's and schemas would clash. Grug, is a very practical and safe person. He wanted nothing but his family to be safe. In doing so, he kind of controlled his family and forgot to live life to the fullest. While "guy" is a very adventurous and go with it kind of person. His the type of person that live's in the moment and when the two characthers meet ofcourse their personalities would clashed. But in the end of the movie they we're able to reconcile they're differences. Grug accepted the changes that he was so afraid to adapt and guy told grug the real reason why he was so eager to "jumped on the sun and rode it to tomorrow". Because that was the last thing his parent's told him right before they died. I could easily relate this to everyday life, just like in college. Our blocks are made up of different type's of people. We have different belief's schemas and judgement. And most of the time we tend to disagree on stuff's because we have different opinions but at the end of......

Drug War on Grugs

...America is at war. We have been fighting drug abuse for almost a century. Four Presidents have personally waged war on drugs. Unfortunately, it is a war that we are losing. Drug abusers continue to fill our courts, hospitals, and prisons. The drug trade causes violent crime that ravages our neighborhoods. Children of drug abusers are neglected, abused, and even abandoned. The only beneficiaries of this war are organized crime members and drug dealers. The United States has been engaged in a “war” for nearly 25 years. A war in which there is a great deal of confusion as to why we are engaged in it, and if we are in the war for the right reasons. The resolution of the war is curtailed by varying opinions and subjective statistical proof. Further, it will explain why not all drugs are the same, explore some options, and look at the future of the United States, and of the world ...
