Wilhelm Wundt opened the Institute for Experimental Psychology at the University of Leipzig in Germany in 1879. This was the first laboratory dedicated to psychology, and its opening is usually thought of as the beginning of modern psychology. Indeed, Wundt is often regarded as the father of psychology.
Wundt was important because he separated psychology from philosophy by analyzing the workings of the mind in a more structured way, with the emphasis being on objective measurement and control.
Wundt's aim was to record thoughts and sensations, and to analyze them into their constituent elements, in much the same way as a chemist analyses chemical compounds, in order to get at the underlying structure. The school of psychology founded by Wundt is known as voluntarism, the process of organizing the mind.
Wundt concentrated on three areas of mental functioning; thoughts, images and feelings. These are the basic areas studied today in cognitive psychology. This means that the study of perceptual processes can be traced back to Wundt. Wundt’s work stimulated interest in cognitive psychology.
On the basis of his work, and the influence it had on psychologists who were to follow him, Wundt can be…...

The Day I Got Married

...a day off of work and Bob Evans breakfast. The day I got married was a surprise to us all. We ourselves nor our families were expecting the day’s events. My morning started off quite typical as my fiancé and I were deciding on the breakfast he should cook as I was getting ready for work in our little one bedroom apartment. Dustin my fiancé, decided to make french toast while I showered. That is what started it all. After my shower we sat down to eat breakfast, but after the first bite we realized french toast that tasted like a cast iron skillet wasn’t going to work. We were full of jokes 10 years ago, just as we are today. After the epic fail of breakfast, we started talking about our life together, and I said, “Hey, let’s get married.” Of course he laughed at me while asking if I was serious. “Why not,” I said,” We have the rings, we can drive to Virginia and I’ll take the day off of work.” After a little talking and deciding we got ready and had our day planned out. We set off for directions and a quick tutorial from a coworker of my fiancés. Of course they thought we were crazy, but why not? We started our drive to Virginia with smiles on our faces, nervousness throughout our bodies and the growls of hungry stomachs wanting breakfast. After the six hour drive to the Virginia Courthouse, finding our way through the parking garage and the court house, we anxiously applied for a marriage license. After we got the license and a list of appointed persons to......

How I Got Here

...How I Got Here Weylon P Fontenot LBSU - 300 Brandman University Looking back how I got here uncovers a lot of old memories, both good and bad. The triumphs, the failures, the times when I was ready to give up and throw in the towel, and the times I felt like I was on top of the world and could accomplish anything. My life so far has been a string of blessings, good luck, some stumbling but ultimately successful to this point. It has not been easy, as no life is. I have learned and grown from my experiences and will hopefully continue to learn and grown. Growing up dirt floor poor in a tiny town in Southwest Louisiana I was one of five boys fighting for love, affection and sometimes food from our single mom. With not enough of any of those three things to go around; I took the first exit I had and joined the Marine Corps. Seventeen days after graduating from my tiny high school I was on my first flight ever to sunny San Diego. The Marine Corps is where I found myself. Being out on my own with the structure of the military behind me, allowed me to develop into a well-rounded young man. Living overseas for my first seven years in the Corps was an experience that had truly shaped my personality. Living in a number of third world countries like Bolivia, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Thailand to name a few, was eye opening. It showed me how good I actually had it growing up, it taught me what hard work really is, and it helped me to appreciate everything I have the......

One thing I learned in ELA was how to make a structure for a poem; I also learned that the structure of a poem is important because since poems are meant to be read out loud you need to write your poem how you want it to be read. A thing that I’m proud of from ELA class is that I became a better reader, I use to be in a low reading level and now I read books of my level grade. | MathMy expectations for math were that it was going to be hard to learn and understand. Whos Got the Monkey

...Who's Got the Monkey? In the article Management Time: Who's Got the Monkey, it is about how managers can take a structured approach to preventing problems from getting delegated upward. This article addresses three types of time: boss imposed time, system imposed time, and self imposed time. To me this article is stating that many managers feel overwhelmed and have too many "monkeys" on their backs. One main lesson that I learned from reading this article is that when managers take problems over from their employees, important issues get delayed and the organization as a whole suffers. In summary, the article is saying that you should arrange your time properly not taking all the monkeys alone and share or transfer to the right person who actually owns the monkey. A monkey in the context of this article can be defined as the next move after two individuals meet. Everyone has "monkeys" or problems. Most of my "monkeys" are going to be found at home. First "monkey" is to take out the trash on the assigned nights prior to the AM pickup. I am in charge of gathering and dividing all trash into the compost, recycle or trash bins. My second "monkey" is to be available to run errands or go to the store for my parents and/or grandparents. I have been in charge of doing this ever since both of my sisters started their own journeys. The final "monkey" is just being around to be available for help. Since both of my sisters have jobs and go to school, it is now my time to assist......

Over the Counter, over Prescribed

...Lefebvre, Joseph Bentley University Over the Counter, Over Prescribed Prescription Drug Abuse Over the Counter, Over Prescribed Prescription Drug Abuse When describing a drug addict, the stereotypical description is usually someone who has no job, steals to get their fix, and is living their life in poverty because of their crippling addiction. The drug of choice for these “junkies” is typically black tar heroin. However in recent years this has not been the case. The age of prescription drugs is beginning and people are dying from prescription drug overdoses at an alarming rate. According to the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA), as seen in Figure 1 found in the Appendix, in 2010 there were 8.76 million prescription drug abusers (Drug Facts: Prescription and Over-the-Counter Medications). Prescription drug abuse has become an epidemic in America and it is not isolated to the stereotypical addict, as doctors and emergency response teams are seeing more and more overdoses and individuals seeking medical attention who are in the upper middle class and lead a fairly “normal” life besides their addiction. The NIDA found that there are around 5.1 million people in the US suffer from substance abuse disorders related to prescription pain relievers (Figure 1, Appendix). Although pain killer abuse gets a lot of the prescription drug abuse headlines, there are other medications that are being abused namely stimulants. Because over the counter and prescription medicines...

The One That Got Away

...ready for the season of death they celebrated Samhain. They believed that on this day the gap between the living and the dead was thinnest and that ghost and ferries could easily cross over. The Celtics would leave food at their doors to keep ghosts at bay and would wear costumes to “blend in” with the dead spirits. This is where we get our costumes today. They believed dressing up would honor the good spirits and keep away the bad ones. Sometime around the 8th century Pope Gregory the 4th merged All Saint’s day with the same day as Samhain and merged the traditions. One of the being children going door to door asking for baked cakes in return of praying for the other person’s dead family in purgatory. Another one was called “guising” wear people would wear masks and go door to door dancing and singing in return for food and wine. Does this sound a little familiar? In early America, Halloween wasn’t really celebrated because of the Puritan beliefs but with the influence of many Irish Immigrants coming to America the holiday started to become more mainstream. One of their traditions was carving faces into potatoes or turnips and leaving them on their doorstep to block out evil spirits. But, when the Irish came to America they saw that pumpkins were way better to carve a face into. And, this is how we got Jack o’ Lanterns. In conclusion, Halloween is a billion-dollar industry with deep dark roots involving the dead. Halloween is only one night so make sure to get spooky and......

...are usually aware of the importance of the interview, the significance of making a good first impression, and the need to come into an interview completely prepared. However, the interview is a two-way street, and unfortunately some managers/supervisors do not come into interviews with the same degree of preparedness and professionalism as the interviewee. "The One That Got Away" is about Dennis, the dining-room manager of a coffee shop within a large hotel. Dennis receives a drop-in application from Donna, a potential candidate for a waitress position. Instead of scheduling an interview for a more convenient time or asking Donna to please come back during the posted interview times, Dennis decides to interview Donna in the dining room on the spot. This case study fills the reader in on Dennis's biases against hiring married women with children prior to his interview with Donna. After Dennis gets one of his employees to temporarily take over his hosting duties he sits down with Donna at a table close to the door so he can keep an eye on things while he interviews her. He begins by looking over her application, but is interrupted numerous times by other employees and leaves the interview to attend to the problems. Although he is impressed by Donna's resume, he is never able to have a complete uninterrupted conversation with her. Dennis also asks inappropriate questions to Donna regarding her personal life (if she is married, does she have children,......

Guys Got It Bad Too

...to be 5’5” and 110 pounds to be attractive. It is reasons like this that females suffer from diseases such as anorexia and bulimia all because advertisements imply that they are not attractive. Women look at magazines like Victoria’s Secret, Playboy, and Maxim and see how guys react to those pictures and think that they need to look like this to get the same attention. So, it is pretty obvious that the majority of males are not helping this cause out at all, because they participate in the purchase of these items and act negatively towards women who do not fit this image. Although men may cause women to feel like this, women do the same exact thing to men. Every time a girl see’s a 6’0” muscular man with a six pack they get all googly over him. That makes some of the men who do not look like that feel that they have to get into better shape and take whatever drastic measures might be needed to look like this. So even though it might not be as common for men as it is for women to experience bulimia and anorexia, it is still just as likely and definitely is still existent in that nature. In the article of, My Body Is My Own Business, the author talks about how wearing traditional clothing in her country is what the women in her religious nature are supposed to wear. The author in this article feels that she doesn’t and shouldn’t have to wear what she is supposed to wear, hence the title. How the Americas Got Started

...How The Americas got started Charlene Cochran Matthew DeFraga His/115 8/12/10 How the Americas got started North American started to civilize about 35,000 years ago. There was a land mass that acted as a bridge like structure that connected Europe and Alaska. Many natives used this land mass to cross over to the Americas. When the Ice age ended the water level rose over the land mass which was submerged leaving the native that were here stranded with no way to go back across to their land. This is how the first descendants as well as their animal made it into North Americans over the years the natives started settlements of different tribes though out North America, Central, and South Americans. They were the first inhabitants (Axia College2010). These people were nomads which means they moved around a lot. The men of the tribe would hunt and fish for food . They also used Animal hides for their clothes and blankets. The women of the tribe plant gardens they also harvest them for more crops like wheat and corn. They also took care of the home and the children which they took pride in. They had to adapt to the lands while strengthening the society. They also would share their food with other settlements. They each developed their own language along with their religious belief. Many Europeans came to America by boats and ships through exploration. There were a few explorers by the 1300’s .
