Analysis of the Case
The Division of Environmental Assessments is now a very important governmental unit, because its mandate has been switched from environmental impact assessment to assessment of environmental plans of oil and gas developments. Based on the importance of oil and gas, this division is clearly under pressure to meet demands and expectations of clients. For this reason, the leadership as well as team members working with the division must employ new strategies that not only increase their efficiency, but also encourage them to work together as a team. This paper analyses some of the problems facing the Division of Environmental Assessments, as well as some solutions aimed at improving employee experience.
Problems
There are underlying problems in the case. The problems must be solved if the division is to play a more complete role in assessment of environmental plans of oil and gas developments. One of the clearest problems is poor employee retention. In the history of the division, it is obvious that employee turnover has not been a serious issue. However, there is now an increase in the turnover rate, and the ability of filling vacant positions is becoming increasingly difficult. From the case, it is evident that within the first month of Jane’s leadership as the Manager of Environmental Assessments, the division has lost one top engineer and one junior engineer. The main reason why employees are leaving the division is that they are receiving more attractive salary packages from other companies, especially in the private sector. Poor employee retention clearly has a direct relationship with the inability of the division to attract new workers. Based on the situation on the ground, this is not only because of a lack of engineers with the appropriate background, but also because of lack of engineers that are willing to commit themselves to…...

Goodbye

...Another goodbye story This goes down as another story, another chapter. Another story to sit and ponder about, another chapter added to my book of life. I sit and type these words out all I envision is you walking towards me, you walking strong. All I can envision is your smile you say hello to me, and the side eye you give when you walk away. Hurt. Hurt is a common feeling that I have, you hurt my feelings, not by your actions but the way you go about it. I guess it's easy to completely ignore someone as if they don't have any feelings. It rude and its mean. But that's something you do and don't seem to want to change, it obviously works for you. But Sevante I'm done, I done changing your mind, I'm done textng you, I'm done calling you. All in all you really don't care so why should I. We had our fun and we shared great laughs, but I'm not allowing you to do what you want with me. And only deal with me when it's convenient for you. It's not right. I really like you and you know that. But your words and your actions are no longer lining up. So today is goodbye. Goodbye to our jokes, goodbye to our laughs, goodbye to our smiles. Goodbye to our hugs, goodbye to our kisses, goodbye to our intimacy. Goodbye. I pray that one day you will see that what your doing isn't good, and I pray that you never have to go through it....

Goodbye Lenin

...“Goodbye Lenin” The movie that was planned on being shown, “The Miracle of Bern”, was replaced with “Goodbye Lenin” because the DVD was region locked for Europe and could not be played on an American DVD player. “Goodbye Lenin” was a story of a boy named Alex who saw his mother fall into a coma, and when she wakes, he tries to keep her from knowing all that has happened in the eight long months since she was last conscious. “Goodbye Lenin” starts out in 1989 in East Germany. The Kerner family is made up of Alex (main character), his mother Christina, and his sister Ariana. Alex’s mother is a huge believer in the DDR and when she sees Alex fighting against German police control, she faints in the street as he is taken away. He finds her in a hospital in a coma. Skip forward eight months and the Berlin wall has been taken down and the DDR no longer exists. Christina wakes up from her coma, but Alex is warned by the doctor that any sort of shock could scare her enough to kill her. So for the rest of the movie, Alex does everything he can to keep his proud, DDR supporting mother from knowing what has happened the past eight months and what the current state of West and East Germany is. It’s a bit difficult to write about what I learned from the film, solely because I just got back from a trip to Berlin a few weeks ago and I learned a lot about the history of West and East Germany. This film was more of an entertainment film, rather than an educational one. I......

Happy

...In this essay, I am going to talk about two of the many things that make me feel happy and what I think it means to be happy. The first thing that makes me happy is being surrounded by the people you love and care for, which is family. Being closer to your family makes me happy. It is always good to be around those that love you more often than being apart from them. My family almost always gets together on Sundays. We go to my grandmother’s house and spend the day with each other. I find this to be relaxing and I feel that having people that care for each other makes you a happier person. Also, when people have children they should be there for them because they will live a healthier life if their parents are in their life more often. It is also good to notice and acknowledge kids when they accomplish their goals because it will make them and yourself happier than if you just ignore them. Family is also a very important part of one’s life because they will always be there for you until you die. Whereas, a wife or significant other may not be there for you until you die or in times of need. This is because they can always leave even after years and years of being with one another. The second thing that makes me feel happy is being able to live and enjoying life. I do not really stress, the reason for it, is because there is nothing to stress about. I enjoy my life and that is what makes me happy. Another thing, is that I accomplish the goals that I set for myself. I will......

Happy

...One essential standard for living is being able to be happy. Happiness can be found in many different forms. It can be found with the purchasing of inanimate objects that better our living styles or it can be found with someone else that you associate with. The latter is the more imperative of the designs of happiness. In order to be truly happy you need to be able to understand that everything is good within your own life and that you are able to be happy with the people that are in your life and the people that influence how you live your daily life. Happiness is all of the good that someone experiences combined into one emotion. This emotion can, and usually does, bring out the best in people. For someone to be happy they need to know that everything that has happened in their past has happened for a reason and that it has happened in order for them to become a better person. Not only does it make them a better person but it also makes them realize how good they have it or can possibly have it. Although things might be hard to deal with at the moment, people need to realize that they will be able to learn from their experiences and that they will learn to take the good from them all. In the end, the hard times will help people strive for happiness. Happiness isn't free. You have to earn it and work to keep it....

...Bacillus cereus- This bacterium is found in foods like cereals, soil and dust. When you are suffering from food poisoning from this bacterium the common symptoms are pain, diarrhoea and vomiting but subside within about 24 hours. These can be stopped by avoiding having to reheat cooked rice. How can the risk of infection with Bacillus cereus be minimised? Keep prepared foods under refrigeration (5°C) until you are ready to serve. Keep hot foods at a temperature greater than 60°C.Try to avoid preparing foods too far in advance. For heated products that are going to be eaten at a later time ensure that the product is correctly cooled after cooking. The Food Standard Code requires food businesses to cool the food: From 60°C to 21°C within two hours, and From 21°C to 5°C within a further four hours. Cooling cooked food in shallow containers, with good airflow around each container, will help achieve this. Wash hands with hot soapy water and dry thoroughly before preparing food. Keep utensils and kitchen clean. Campylobacter- This is found in raw poultry and meat, milk and animals including pets. Symptoms include diarrhoea which is often bloody. When you suffer from food poisoning due to this bacterium the symptoms are diarrhoea, cramps, a fever and vomiting this could last from 2 to 10 days. The Hours

...Comparative essay (incomplete) “An examination of a pair of texts reveals similarities in their concerns and their contexts” The last hundred years have been characterised by wide scale and extremely rapid change: both Modernism and early 21st century United States were shaped by extraordinary social, cultural and political upheaval. Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway (1925) and Daldry’s “The Hours” (2002) show overlapping and interwoven ideas that reveal their contextual concerns – decay of faith in authority (such as God, politicians and doctors), changing ideas about gender equality and sexuality, and how our perception of time shapes our lives. Both the novel and film convey these ideas through the appropriate techniques of the Modernist and Post Modern contexts. In Britain during the early 20th Century, and again in the USA late in the century, a declining belief in authority figures and religion was expressed in the work of many creative composers, as well as in Mrs Dalloway. Woolf expresses this shared belief through Septimus, and the conflicting values of Miss Kilman and Mrs Dalloway. In the introduction, the motor car with its unknown entity inside symbolising authority and upper class privilege slowly drives through the crowd of working and middle class. Woolf establishes the tendency of the upper class to float over the middle and working class, and their tendency to not connect with anyone of lower class which implies that they never really gain a clear......

Be Happy

...full because now I have a chance to finally write my first blog post. I'll share a few tips from my heart on being and staying happy in Jesus. * "Are any among you in trouble? They should pray..." - James 5:13 Pray; my joy begins and ends in God and I can confidently say that the joy of the Lord is truly my strength. You cannot be happy while you insist on carrying your own burdens. The Bible says that we cast our cares on the Lord. Now the way to do this is by prayer. I do not expect to be happy while my God is angry at me. So be it burdens of sin -by the way disobedience to God will snuff the joy out of you cause joy is from the Holy Spirit and He can get grieved by us when we do wrong!-, worry, anxiety, depression, name it! I will lay it at His feet and His cross and take on His yoke. I realized that if I truly want to be happy all the days of my life, then I should seek diligently to be full of all that God is. * ------------------------------------------------- "...Are any among you happy? They should sing praises." ------------------------------------------------- James 5:13 Be grateful; My heart "glows" when I appreciate someone. And it does so when am appreciated as well. Being grateful helps you appreciate and be content with what you have. A sincere thank you to God and people around you will go a long way in helping you stay happy about what you already have. When is the last time you said thank you? Take your time with God today, give thanks sincerely......

Goodbyes Are Not Forever

...GOODBYES ARE NOT FOREVER I never thought I could get this attached to my classmates, so attached that I have mixed feelings as we graduate. I am happy for I know how much we’ve waited for this. I have felt our excitement for it vibrated throughout our classroom as we started with our countdown. I know that we’re happy because of the new freedom close at hand, a new challenge which perhaps tingle our spine from time to time. Yes, graduation has offered us a different kind of happiness. Yet, I’m sad deep within for I know that after this, we’ll go on our separate ways, living our separate lives. I have this creeping feeling we’ll barely see each other from now on. Hey! You’ll be pursuing your dreams and I’ll be pursuing mine. I’ll be forgetting my dear classmates for a while as I daringly take hold of a new chapter in my life, and I guess they’ll do the same too. You know, “forget the buried woes and dead despairs for there’s a brand new trial right at hand.” And then, as we settle down in our new “nest”, we’ll start remembering each other, and all shall be coming back – the laughters, the tears, the jokes, the songs – every little moment I have shared with them. But for now, I have to move on. I have to search for my rightful place in “the circle of life.” Then, though fate may separate us, I hope that sometime, somewhere, we’ll meet again. I shall look forward to that day when I can embrace you and we shall talk, laugh, cry......

... but if the parent has any concerns it is best they contact their healthcare provider and get the proper referral. I Education I would give the parent is that the child is now really understanding the meanings of being angry, happy, sad etc. So encourage your child to express those feelings properly. This child looks up to her parent so as a parent the way you handle feelings in front of her child should be appropriate. The child will react the same way they seen the parent react. Mobility The parent identifies the child has met all mobility milestones. My observation matched the parents’ observation. The child was able to stand on one foot for longer than ten seconds. She did several somersaults in a row; she skipped with no difficulties up and down the sidewalk. A screening recommendation for this child is to have her parent annually take the child to the doctor for a well child checkup. They will assess developmental, physical growth, cognitive, and mobility to assure the child is where they need to be for their age. Education for this parent is to provide a nutritional diet high in protein. This child is actively growing. Dietary calcium and phosphorus is needed for the mineralization of the teeth. Assure the child receives eleven to twelve hours of sleep a night and allow the child to have sixty minutes of physical activity a day. These educational recommendations will help the child grow and develop in many ways. ....

Goodbye Home Sweet Home

...Anna Hauss Jennifer Parrack-Rogers English 111-006 Description and Illustration Essay 13 September 2011 Goodbye Home Sweet Home It was a day like any other day. I woke up early to prepare for what Monday had in store for me. Class was first on the agenda and I was driving into town when my phone started ringing abruptly. Dad was calling. The moment I picked up the phone my stomach dropped and cold chills devoured my body, as he told me our house had caught fire. I sensed the chill of a shadow cast over me and everything seemed to be moving in slow motion. Instinct pricked me and I knew I needed to return home. When I arrived, my entire street was blocked with fire and rescue crews. On the surface and from a distance, my house looked fine. I started to wander towards the chaos. The closer I proceeded, the damage was more apparent. My eyes began to fill with tears as I sat down tucking my legs to my chest as tight as I could, hiding my face between my knees. I had images racing through my mind of my house being engulfed in flames, with thick, dark smoke pouring out of the windows and roof. I sat in disbelief feeling utterly alone, suddenly assaulted with the vastness of the destruction. I sat, as tears continued to slowly make their way down my somber face, and studied the entrance of my black, damaged home in absolute doubt. I could not help but feel sick to my stomach with anger and discomfort for the obvious injustice of the situation. I heard car doors shut and......

A Happy Meal for a Happy Mind

...A Happy Meal for the Mind When I was a little girl I always thought it was a treat to visit McDonalds. This magical place had a giant play-place, ice cream, French fries and of course that special surprise toy contained inside the happy meal. What else could I have wanted? This world lost all of its glamour however, when I became a teen who experienced the inner workings of this land from the side of employment. I will never forget the place that was to be my first experience of the working world. My Fifteenth birthday had just passed and this meant I was finally old enough to enter the work force. So I went to the only place in the area that would hire a kid without experience or a driver’s license, McDonalds. Now, I wasn't entirely thrilled about the idea of working in this environment but if I wanted to get a car in the next year it was off to work for me. Somewhat sullenly, I donned my uniformed baseball cap and made my way behind the service counter. Feeling a little nervous, I fumbled as I attempted to tie my apron behind my back. I began to wonder what I might be assigned to do first. "Well, as long as I can work behind the scenes and avoid talking to people I should be okay." I thought. Standing motionless, I observed the fast-food frenzied scene. Employees were running here and there yelling to one another, order screens were flashing, various machines were......

No Time for Goodbye

...Everyone has their own flaws and imperfections, nobody is perfect. Whether it be a physical flaw or a mental flaw. Most mental flaws are caused from a traumatic experience. All characters in the book “No Time for Goodbye” by Linwood Barclay are fundamentally flawed in one way or another. Cynthia, the main character of the book, has been diagnosed with extreme anxiety. Enid, Cynthia’s father’s wife suffers from borderline personality disorder and Cynthia’s friend Vince Fleming has intermittent explosive disorder. Cynthia Bigge is the main character of my book, at a young age of fourteen she woke up one day and her family was gone without a trace. The police never found out what had happened that night, the mystery became a cold case. Twenty five years later she received a call from a TV producer asking her if she wanted to be in a mystery TV show about her family disappearing (17). Cynthia said yes, thinking that it would reopen the case and she could find answers. After all these years of not knowing if her mother father and brother were alive or dead caused her to worry which lead to a stomach ulcer. Cynthia’s worries started when her family abandoned her, but she eventually started worrying and feeling anxious about everything and was diagnosed with severe anxiety. She worried about little things, such as if her daughter Grace was safe walking to school on her own, if that brown car really slowed down just to stalk her (34), or of she left a light on at the house...
