You need to be physically present in class for us to accept a hard copy of your assignment. Assignment: Analyze the case information, and after updating the case information with current information on the industry and company, suggest some strategic options that the company can follow in the future. Your strategy recommendation should be relevant for the present time, rather than for the time when the case was written (which could be a few years earlier). In other words, the case is only meant to give you some background information. Your analysis has to go beyond the information presented in the case study. Please use the following format in your write-up (page suggestions are single-spaced, but make sure you adhere to the 3-page limit): please refer to case in all parts, and do at least 2 different case graph and data analyses in the parts that you think will best fit in the context. ( might be in the 3rd part. The case data and graphs should be in the appendix.)
1. (½-page). Briefly summarize the company and its businesses.
2. (½-page). Define clearly and concisely the strategic challenges facing the industry and firm today (please refer to the case and you will need to update the case information with outside research in this section – the case might be a few years old, but we are interested in the current situation – please reference your sources)—might be one resource? You can choose the best number of resources to answer this part
3. (1- 1½ pages). Identify at least three strategic growth opportunities for the company using a full sentence or a short…...

Harrah's Entertainment

...Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. February 7, 2011 The goal of introducing the Gainsharing program was to increase employee motivation so they provide outstanding customer service. The differentiating factor in regaining and keeping bigger market share was through customer satisfaction. The Gainsharing program was effective in increasing both customer satisfaction and employee loyalty. Turnover went down from 70% to 50% in one year. It also proved to be an effective motivator to the food and beverage department of Harrah’s Las Vegas. Another great feature of this program was that it wasn’t tied to the financial performance of the company and the payout would be paid regardless of operating income results. Despite its positive features, the program had some drawbacks. The objectives that needed to be achieved in order to receive the gainsharing program’s bonus were not properly fine tuned. This led to situations where teams at most properties had missed their payout just by a small margin, leading to a feeling of let down. Also, the profits were not where they should be and the economy was dragging. Most employees were thankful to have jobs let alone bonus pay outs. The feature of getting a pay out regardless of financial performance was proving to be disadvantageous to the company. The incentive plan had cost $16 million in the previous year, and that felt like an especially big number now that revenues were dropping off because of broader economic conditions. Lastly...

Most people have never heard about the term of “In-Flight Entertainment” and have no understanding what this topic is all about. They take it for granted that they get entertained on a long distance or even short distance flight. Movies, music, applications and games are seen as natural given things on board of an airplane and most people don´t understand that there is much more behind it than just pulling their screen out of their armrest or turning the screen on, which is mounted to the backrest of their front seat. From the past till the present, when everyone has its own screen and can choose from a variety of entertainment options, it was a long way to go. Started with exhibitions of silent movies on linen by 16mm film reels at the beginning of the early 1920´s, as mankind was just about to conquer the sky and aviation was still in its infancy, up to black and white TV screens in the 1960´s, until today, with every passenger having its own LCD screen in front. In order......

The Entertainment in Education

...be used for fun and entertainment, so the first time that something does not catch our interests we change the channel. Postman talks about this and makes mention of the effects a show like "Sesame Street" has on us by saying that there are many things about these kinds of shows that catch our eyes and please us and serve as preparation for entry into a fun-loving culture (142). But in reality it turns out that not all learning is fun and that sometimes effort is required to learn. Postman also says this "Mainly, they will have learned that learning is a form of entertainment or, more precisely, that anything worth learning is a form of entertainment, and out to" (154) . Postman says, "You will find it is said by some that children will learn the best when they are interested in what they are learning" (146). Okay sure, by this point our children are convinced form their experiences when they were growing up that television is entertainment. So if the only things we are interested in are the things that catch our attention then what is it that is being taught if we are learning things that only catch our interest? Things like "The Voyage of the Mimi" are being used to teach our youth. The television series just mentioned is an educational drama used in many of the schools across America and it teaches kids how to track down whales or to live on an uninhabitable island. The American culture today tends to confuse entertainment with education and......

Answer Box 1. Answer question one under Purpose and Audience. Write the thesis IN YOUR OWN WORDS. I believe that the point that the writer is trying to prove is that her mother was a hard worker throughout her whole life who never once stopped working regardless of the circumstances or obstacles that she came across. I think that her thesis was never explicitly stated because the telephone conversation stated her thesis well. She stated her essay with the telephone conversation and in the pause between the response of the lady from the Social Security Office she goes back in time and gives a little background of all the jobs her mom had. The writer had a specific question and the lady had a solid answer. At the end of the passage the lady answered her question and gave her the news that she wasn’t eligible for death benefits because her mother never worked according to their records. In my opinion the thesis was in some way written throughout the whole essay when she was explaining all the jobs and task her mom actually had because at the end of the essay you don’t question the...

Entertainment

... Entertainment is a form of activity that holds the attention and interest of an audience, or gives pleasure and delight. It can be an idea or a task, but is more likely to be one of the activities or events that have developed over thousands of years specifically for the purpose of keeping an audience's attention. Although people's attention is held by different things, because individuals have different preferences in entertainment, most forms are recognisable and familiar. Storytelling, music, drama, dance, and different kinds of performance exist in all cultures, were supported in royal courts, developed into sophisticated forms and over time became available to all citizens. The process has been accelerated in modern times by an entertainment industry which records and sells entertainment products. Entertainment evolves and can be adapted to suit any scale, ranging from an individual who chooses a private entertainment from a now enormous array of pre-recorded products; to a banquet adapted for two; to any size or type of party, with appropriate music and dance; to performances intended for thousands; and even for a global audience. The experience of being entertained has come to be strongly associated with amusement, so that one common understanding of the idea is fun and laughter, although many entertainments have a serious purpose. This may be the case in the various forms of ceremony, celebration, religious festival, or satire for example. Hence, there is the......

...Children today have an unprecedented number of options when it comes to entertainment. Since no parent can be aware of all of these options, it falls to the entertainment media to ensure that their content is suitable for young consumers." Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated above. Support your point of view with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading It is a known fact that there is a great proliferation of entertainment options. There are so many forms of entertainment targeted towards children for different purposes such as educational, informative, or pure entertainment purposes. For this reason, a lot of parents find it hard to censor what their wards view and are thus in a dilemma over making choices for program view. Despite this fact, parents should be responsible, and not necessarily the media, for ensuring that the children view appropriate content. Firstly, parents are responsible for their children. The choices the children make are largely influenced by the parent’s views. As such, parents are in a solid position to ensure that at each time their children make a choice, those choices would be approved by the parent. The parent can thus note which entertainment content would be suitable for the child and which would not, thus shielding against wrong influences. Secondly, the media industry is known as a for-profit organization, and its focus will be more on maximizing......
