What are some of the advantages for using a research-based approach to problem resolution in your organization or practice? One of the greatest advantages for using a research based approach in Hospice and Palliative Care is marketing the service. So often, the subject of end-of-life care is tabu. Health care professionals and lay persons who do not have an active working knowledge of this type of care seem to think that accepting Hospice Care is “throwing in the towel”. Pilot and Beck (2012) state that research utilization is due to studies which have been applied to clinical practice and then incorporating the results of those studies into everyday practice. Some of the advantages of utilizing those studies include the ability to make more informed clinical decisions and enriches educational and practice. Research based approaches are vital to problem resolution. As I stated earlier, one of the greatest problems facing Hospice and Palliative Care providers is a failure by other practitioners to identify and offer timely referrals. Nursing care is dependent on research based evidence to provide safe and effective care. Policies of health care agencies should be written based on evidence based and proven methods. Again, in the Hospice arena, nurses should be able to trust the EBP studies and research and have faith that they will be able to effectively communicate the rationale behind interventions they are performing. I have seen that this is particularly important with the use of opiate medication therapies. Patients and families are reassured if nurses can reassure them of facts and myths regarding addiction and use of the medications.

Apollo Group (University of Phoenix) Case

...1. Briefly describe Apollo group's original mission. What is their mission now? How has their mission changed, if at all? John Sperling started the Apollo Group, parent company of the University of Phoenix, in 1976. Sperling’s goal was to revolutionize orthodox higher education, and most people would say that he has done just that. Rather than catering to 18-22 year olds looking to find themselves, Sperling focused on the then-neglected market of working adults. He also recruited working professionals as teachers, rather than tenured professors. Most radical of all, while nearly all other universities are nonprofit, Sperling ran his university to make money. From the Apollo Group’s website, “Apollo Group, Inc. was founded in 1973 in response to a gradual shift in higher education demographics from a student population dominated by youth to one in which approximately half the students are adults and over 80 percent of whom work full-time. Apollo's founder, John Sperling, believed—and events proved him right—that lifelong employment with a single employer would be replaced by lifelong learning and employment with a variety of employers. Lifelong learning requires an institution dedicated solely to the education of working adults.” The case also provides the following UOP quote: By providing an accessible, high quality education, University of Phoenix is producing successful outcomes—graduates who are better positioned to enjoy the professional financial......

...Improving Hand Hygiene through Education Danielle Pizzoferrato NUR/598- Nursing Research Utilization February 10, 2014 Professor Maria Revell Improving Hand Hygiene through Education Section C: Research Support There has been a plethora of research compiled in regards to hand hygiene and infection control. This research has been the driving force behind evidenced based practice for years and has helped revolutionize effective infection control methods. There are still many gaps to be filled. One of the biggest happens to be improving compliance rates among hand hygiene. This has been classified as a problem, but there is not a large array of research on specific interventions. One of the interventions that have been put under the microscope is the effect that education plays on change behavior to increase hand hygiene compliance. The following research articles emphasize this intervention. Article 1 The first article was entitled “Increasing Hand Hygiene Compliance Requires Culture Change” written by Treon, Kelley, Kneebone, and Miles (2007). The purpose of this research focused on designing an innovative educational intervention to increase overall awareness of infection control practices, and to increase overall hand hygiene compliance. The research question proposed was looking to determine if education can cause change behavior and increase hand hygiene adherence. The design of this research consisted of both qualitative and quantitative research providing a......

...Ashley Cooper Biology 240 Week 1 Photosynthesis: Photosynthesis is the process in which plants convert light energy into chemical energy (glucose). Photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplasts of plants. * The Light Dependent Reaction: The light dependent reaction takes place in the membrane of the thylakoid membrane of a chloroplast and the lumen of the thylakoid. As light hits the thylakoid (the pigment) the Chlorophyll is absorbing the energy from the photons. Chlorophyll absorbs the red and blue light and reflects the green light. This is why most plants we see are green. Once chlorophyll absorbs enough energy, it releases two electrons. To replace the electrons chlorophyll uses light to split water into Oxygen and Electrons. The Oxygen is then released as a byproduct and the chlorophyll keeps the electrons. The kept electrons are stored in the Primary Electron Acceptor. Once the electron is released it moves down the Electron Transport Chain. The movement of the electrons through the Electron Transport Chain result in the creation of Adenosine Tri-phosphate (ATP), which is a form of energy. This activates the proton pump-to-pump hydrogen ions into the lumen of the thylakoid. At this time two different situations happen simultaneously. Either there is a continuation of the hydrogen or the electron moved down the Electron Transport Chain end up in Photosystem 1. In the hydrogen continuation, hydrogen has just been pumped into the lumen of......

Person Values University of Phoenix

...Personal Values Paper Rebecca De Leon University of Phoenix MBA 521 May 2, 2011 The word values can be defined as having important and enduring beliefs or ideals shared by the members of a culture about what is good or desirable and what is not. Values exert major influence on the behavior of an individual and serve as broad guidelines in all situations (Web Finance Inc, 2011). Every person in the world has values and they have been taught to them by what is around them. They may not all have been taught intentionally, but they are instilled in a person and stays with them as they get older. It either comes from experience, family, peers, or even from television. For me personally, I value most is independence. Not everybody feels the same way as I do but it’s what I have seen and I have experienced. Not only have I experienced it in my personal life but I have also learned how to be independent in the workplace. I am told or taught something once and from then on I need no help. My managers in the past have told me during my evaluations that it is something I succeed at. I have prided myself in never having to ask what I should be doing at work and I always keep myself busy. According to my self assessment reports, what ranked highest in were knowledge, self respect and security. When it came down to the ranking of instrumental values, truthfulness ranked number one. The reason I ranked it number one was due to my past experiences in the workplace. There......

University of Phoenix - Cmgt 430 - Week 2 Individual

...Week 2 Individual Assignment University of Phoenix – CMGT 430 In order to better serve Riordan Manufacturing’s information security infrastructure, a solid plan must be put in place to ensure that the approach to its implementation is logical, easy to follow, and effective. Many aspects must be considered when formulating an information security policy, including the needs of the company vs. best practice, thus striking a delicate balance between both variables. Therefore Smith Systems Consulting is dedicated to ensuring that a quality service is delivered that will meet these objectives. However, before a more comprehensive plan can be put into place, it is important that Smith Systems Consulting understands exactly how the security plan will be managed, and how to enforce it on the most basic level. It is therefore the opinion of our company to begin by defining a simple, yet utterly crucial part of Riordan’s base information security policy: separation of duties via the practice and implementation of role assignments. Separation of duties, in information technology, is the practice of dividing both IT staff and end users into managed groups, or roles. While users and IT staff, from an administrative level, may fall into several groups (ex., Accounting Department, Maintenance, Security, etc), these groups are not enough to enforce proper security policy. A more comprehensive approach is to define what the base access is for all of these groups, thus the use of roles....
