Detailed Fare Information

All Aboard!
This map gives detailed information about Chicago Transit Authority bus and elevated/subway train service, and shows Pace suburban bus and Metra commuter train routes in the CTA service area. It is updated twice a year, and available at CTA rail stations, Metra downtown terminals, visitor centers, airports, or by calling the RTA
Travel Information Center number below.

Regional Service Overview
CTA runs buses (routes 1 to 206) and elevated/subway trains serving the city and 40 nearby suburbs. Most routes run daily through late evening, every 10 to 20 minutes. Sunday schedules apply on New Year’s
Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
PACE runs buses throughout the suburbs (routes 208 and above), and many routes connect with CTA. Major routes run daily through mid-evening, every 30 to 60 minutes. You can use your CTA Transit
Card, Chicago Card®, Chicago Card Plus®, or certain CTA Passes to ride.
METRA runs 11 suburban commuter train lines from several downtown Chicago terminals. Rush hour service is frequent; otherwise every 1 to 2 hours. Most routes run daily. Fares are separate, but a Link-Up Pass is available to Metra monthly ticketholders for use on CTA (weekdays 6am–9:30am and
3:30pm–7pm) or Pace (anytime).
SOUTH SHORE LINE runs commuter trains between downtown
Chicago (Millennium and Van Buren stations) and South Bend
Airport in Indiana. Daily service. Fares are separate.

Chicago street numbers start at State and Madison downtown. State Street divides east and west addresses, and Madison
Street divides north and south addresses.
Suburban street numbers vary; not all use
Chicago’s system. One mile is equal to 800 street numbers. Example: Montrose (4400 N) is one mile north of Addison (3600 N).

The Road

...In The Road by Cormac McCarthy, It is said that fear is the strongest motivator in the world. People in fear are willing to do whatever, go beyond any border and forget all rules. Fear can easily take over our mind and control our every move. But how much does it take to push a person beyond his limits? What kind of a fear can make us forget everything about humanity and morals? These questions are one of the main themes in Cormac McCarthy’s novel ”The Road” We are all afraid of different things. Some are afraid to lose their family and friends others on the other hand their money and possessions. Cormac McCarthy’s great novel ”The Road” tells us a story of a post-apocalyptic world where everything is destroyed and life is almost extinct. There are left only handful people, who are willing to do everything to survive. But some of them are willing to go further than the others. Fear influences every person differently. But how can some of us still maintain our moral values even though we might be scared to death? In ”The Road” the main characters, the man and the boy represent a group of people who does not let the fear control their minds. The man is constantly afraid of his son getting killed or starving to death. The boy is worried about his father and about being left alone in this terrible world if his father should die. Every single day they live in fear. They can never be sure whether they find food, whether they will survive the cold nights in the woods, or......

On the Road

...Jack Kerouac’s novel, On the Road, is about the journey of a young college-age man across the country in search of something more from his life in post-war America. The book revolves around a young man named Sal Paradise, and the whole story is told from his perspective. The rambling writing, while hard to understand sometimes, offers a detailed record of his pursuit and the ensuing antics. The story starts in 1947 where Sal meets a man named Dean Moriarty, a lively and animated man who was a “sideburned hero of the snowy West” (Kerouac 2). It was Dean who prompted Sal’s adventurous travels west. Along the way, Dean and Sal befriend Carlo Marx, an energetic young poet who shares the same view of wanting something a little more out of life. Sal’s journeys across the U.S. and to Mexico open his eyes to the good and bad, the up and downs in life. His constant stints on the road with madman Dean sometimes got him in trouble with the law. Other times, the trips allowed Sal to truly find out more about himself, and relate to Dean on a more personal level to share and connect The meaning behind the title On the Road lies in Sal’s innate desire for something more. The road in this novel comes to symbolize freedom and the solution to answer life’s problems. Sal constantly finds a refreshing sense of purity once he hits the open road, especially in the company of Dean, whose spirit was the catalyst for the voyages in the first place. However, once Sal and Dean get to Mexico City...

The Road

...A relationship between father and son could be described as loving or hated. However in the book The Road by Cormac McCarthy, it is put into a completely different situation. The father and son of The Road are surviving for each other. From a post apocalyptic setting they are trying to reach the south. The father and son of The Road are left with no names, which makes it more mysterious. Within the book the father often times lies to the son about certain things. For the good of the son and humanity, it is a good choice to tell his son what is for the better. The better of things could be for the son’s future. The father and son go through a long journey to the south. The father believes that the south should be an easier place to be for the father and son to survive the deadly cold winter. The story tells of the father constantly telling himself that his son is the best thing that has happened and that he is the only light left in his life. They have to try to avoid many obstacles like those trying to steal their belongings or others trying to kidnap them to eat them. The father always seems to believe there is nothing left of his life except to keep his son safe and as happy as he can be. In parts of the book the son asks the father about their life. His son would ask if he would die what would the father do? The father easily answers that he would die also to be with his son. The father lives only for his son and would be willing to do anything for him. The father......

...Running Head: Biblical Comparison of The Road Biblical Comparison of The Road by Cormac McCarthy Joshua G. West Henry County High School Abstract The Road by Cormac McCarthy (2006) is a novel that explains the struggles of a father and son as they thrive to survive in a post-apocalyptic society. Cormac McCarthy (2006) put a lot of details into the story and this world, but I believe he did not make up this. There are many clues and links between his story and what the Bible has so say about the rapture and tribulation period. From the beginning of the world they live in, to the characters involved in the novel, Cormac McCarthy’s (2006) novel could be described as parable of what the bible has to say of the end times. However, the novel goes deeper than just a comparison to the end times, it goes into saving your moral values, no matter how difficult your trials are becoming. Biblical Comparison of The Road by Cormac McCarthy Words often have a deeper meaning then what we first see or hear. In Cormac McCarthy’s (2006) prize winning novel, The Road, McCarthy (2006) wrote down the story of a man and his son struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. Along their journey you see the mother walk out on them, robbers attack them and inner struggle in their own minds. If one takes a closer look at the story, they see several points which could all lead back to a single source and hold a deeper meaning. When facing a tough dilemma, it can be a quite difficult...

Production of the national cars increased from 80,000 to 240,000 units a year. Among the models are Wira, Waja, Exora, Kancil, MyVi, Viva and Alza. This scenario indirectly contributes to the increase in the number of registered vehicles and the number of registered drivers. Based on comparison between 2005 and 2009, the cumulative number of registered cars has increased by 31.4 per cent (2 million) and the cumulative number of registered motorcycles has increased by 27.6 per cent (1.9 million). The Road

...novel, The Road, we are met with the nameless characters, known as a father and his young son, who travel and attempt to survive post apocalyptic Earth. They set out to the south west in hopes to find people just like themselves, who are still morally correct in a world full of cannibalistic savages. The father shows the boy how to survive through making fires, dispersing their daily intake of food, sleeping in various locations, and other ways just to be safe and healthy. The father teaches him that they are the few morally correct people still left on Earth, as he wishes to teach his son as much as he can, before the father’s time runs out. The boy is seen as a God-like figure to his father as he is a beacon of light in a world full of darkness, the hope of the future, due to his correct moralities, as this reflects onto the father in various situations through the novel. It is quite notable that though the father plays an influential figure for the boy to look up to, the boy also is able to praise teachings upon his father to restore faith in himself. The bond between the father and son is one of the learning, as the father finds himself learning from his son. To start with the case of the son teaching his father, the two spot a young old man ahead of them on the road, to which the young boy insists on helping him, going against his father’s wishes. The first encountering with the old man between the two starts when the son bends down the sitting old man in the road,......

The Road

...The Road to a Quest What is a quest? If unaware as to what a quest is, it is a long search for something. What makes up a quest? What primarily makes up a quest is a questor, where the questors are going, stated reason for the quest, challenges and trials, and the real reason for the quest. Quests can be seen anywhere from movies to books. In the book The Road by Cormac McCarthy for example. That is a great story of a quest and survival. An important part of a quest is completing it. In the story The Road it has everything to make up a quest, but The Man and The Boy could not complete it. The two questors are The Man and The Boy. The story never identified their names. The Man is a great survivalist. He has great skills as to tracking, and using the weapons around him. Everything he does is dedicated for The Boy. The book establishes this very early on, “When he woke in the woods in the dark and the cold of the night he'd reach out and touch the child sleeping beside him” (McCarthy 1). The Boy is very mature, and smart for his age. The book does not tell his age but it is easy to tell he is young. He is very thoughtful of others, and wants to help others. An example of this is, “We should go get him, Papa. We could get him and take him with us. We could take him and we could take the dog. The dog could catch something to eat” (McCarthy 73). They both may be different types of people, but they need each other. The place where The Man and The Boy are heading is to the......

The Road

...Name: Tutor: College: Course: Date: Carrying light in darkness The short story, “The Road,” is an interesting story about an unspecific journey about an old man and a young boy who set out to wander in fear of the scary incidences that were happening. The land that had once been admired had changed after the apocalypse where animal and plant life had been completely destroyed. The human survivors had become cannibals and would rampage through the streets looking for human flesh. The old man and the boy seemed to be the only glimmer of hope in the land after the mother of the boy committed suicide. The journey of the old man and the boy reflects a journey of hope in dire situations, whose goals, are realized when a man with his family approaches the boy after the old man dies. This paper creates an analysis of how the old man and the boy were able to carry light through darkness. The decay of the land that the old man had been living in is evident through the ash filled ground, barren landscapes, cannibalism, and the loss of hope to the survivors. All of the inhabitants of the land had been demoralized and the only two surviving lucky inhabitants, father and son were struggling to make it through every day. The mother of the boy had given up based on what she had seen about the land and the daily struggle that she had to undergo on keeping herself and the unborn baby. Road Rage

...person off, maybe it was the guy who would not let a person move into the fast lane. In most cases it is simple misunderstandings between drivers that set them off. Regardless of what car is driven, large or small, road rage is dangerous. Therefore we must do more to control this outrageous behavior before it gets out of hand. Many people have heard of road rage from drivers ed or from the local media. People who have heard of road rage have a general idea of what road rage is but do not really understand what it is until they have experienced it themselves. Road rage can be caused by tailgating, speeding, driving under the speed limit or cutting others off. Even driving within the required speed limit can start road rage. An example of road rage in the article, “Can road designers and police calm motorists down?” by Sarah Glazer, is told by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, “a station wagon in San Francisco ran a red light five seconds after it turned red hitting a cab at thirty miles per hour” (Glazer 650). Most of the time though it is the smallest infraction that will set people off. For example, not signaling, making a rolling stop, and stealing people’s parking spots while they are waiting for the car to back or pull out. As noted above, road rage can start in many ways. In today's world people live in a fast paced society where everyone is constantly in a rush. They also live in a time were if they want something, they expect it immediately. ......

On the Road

...On the Road The main theme of the book and its common thread is the journey, seen as an element that breaks the monotony of life and brings the individual to deal with ever new realities, always looking for a new form of existence that could avert the danger of "boredom ". The journey takes on the function of true teacher of life for all the characters. It is not only meant as the material form of physical movement but also as a "virtual" journey through the use of drugs and abandonment in pleasures. All this, however, is not presented as a process of decay, but as a quest for a primitive instinct of human creativity and innocence now lost and suppressed by mod-ern conformism. The journey told in the book, however, is not just a figment of the writer: On the road, in fact, col-lects real travel experiences that the writer has made in over seven years with his friend and teacher of life Neil Cassidy (Dean Moriarty in the book). The novel, in fact, was written on a “scroll” by the writer within three weeks revising its travel notes, under the effect of Benzedrine. The trip, however, is not the only theme in the book. The other themes, in fact, are: the promotion of art in all its forms as a tool to uncover the truth, the search of love and the importance of friendship. As frame the entire novel, then, there is the per-ennial tension between the big cities and small towns, between life without brakes and inhibitions and tranquility of the family, between traveling and......

...Recycled Asphalt Product?? Basically R.A.P. is old asphalt that is ground into gravel that hardens/binds together when compacted. The best gravel to leave exposed for a long time is R.A.P. (Recycled Asphalt Product), a great product on any driveway, parking area or lane. There are three key requirements that must be satisfied for asphalt pavement recycling to be successful. Recycled asphalt pavements must: 1. Be cost effective, 2. Be environmentally responsible, and 3. Perform well. In 2007, the FHWA Office of Pavement Technology initiated an Expert Task Group (ETG) on the use of RAP in the construction and rehabilitation of flexible pavements for highways and roads. The ETG is comprised of experts on the use of RAP in asphalt paving mixtures from State DOTs, FHWA, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA), and National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT). The purpose of the ETG is to advance the use of RAP in asphalt paving applications by providing highway agencies with critical information regarding the use of RAP, technical guidance on high-RAP projects, and direction on research activities. For more information on the RAP ETG, please see: http://www.ncat.us/RAP/. Recycled asphalt on the other hand is quite simply asphalt concrete which has been reprocessed by mixing the reclaimed asphalt pavement with new asphalt and aggregates. In some circumstances, a recycling agent is also......

Smart Road

...Imagine you are driving at night on a winding road. The snow is coming down and you cannot see, as you begin to approach a curve. You make out dim brake lights of traffic ahead, but despite the driving conditions, you feel safe. How can you feel safe under these conditions, you ask. Very easily, the way of the future will be Scott Brusaw’s Smart Road. Owned by Virginia Department of Transportation, the Smart Road will lead to safer highways and vehicles, more conventional travel, and less stress behind the wheel. Researchers will get to apply their creative ideas to real-life situations in a low-risk environment, while business developers could gain profitable partnerships and new projects. The Smart Road is a rare, state-of-the-art, full-scale, closed test-bed research facility which features weather-making capabilities, an experimental lighting system, pavement markings, road weather information systems, a signalized intersection, a differential GPS system, road access and surveillance, and a computer-equipped control center. It is the first of its kind with a long history and possibly an even longer future. It all started when the idea and the proposal for a connecting road from Blacksburg to Interstate 81 was introduced in 1985. Roanoke Mayor Noel Taylor favored the idea introduced by Roanoke-Virginia Tech Advisory Council in 1986. The following year the Department of Transportation was asked to consider short and long-term answers for traffic jamming along Route 460.......
