Creating an Interview Portfolio

Your portfolio shows proof of who you are and what you can do!

Images include: photos, graphs, videotapes, DVD, CD, pictures, logos, web designs, sketches, designs, flyers, prototypes, marketing work, sales materials, graphics of your ideas, listing of projects completed, summary charts, past job designs/graphs, models, diagrams, artwork, patent sketches, et cetera.

Text includes: anything requiring a written plan, schedule of events, reports, proposals, articles, journal publications, business plans, co-op/internship accomplishments, school and/or newsletter articles, performance reports, letters of recommendation, highlights of projects- include personal and business text. Your portfolio will set you apart from other applicants.

Know your work! Be proud of it.

Portfolio Guidelines • Give the portfolio a personal, original title. • Use a new binder with clear plastic sleeves that allow your work to be seen. A 10”x 13” tri-fold presentation binder or traditional flat book style is impressive. • Keep it neat, simple, interesting, unique, and professional. • Your portfolio should be highly visual. • Images should be clear, uncluttered, and easy to read. • Text reports should only be used in support of images. • Do not include any text reports longer than two pages. Interviewers have no time to read and would rather look at images instead. • Prototypes and inventions- if you have a small one, bring it. • If you have done presentations, simply display a listing of them by topic or title, date, and location. • Video (CD/DVD/Tape) should be captivating and no longer than three minutes.

Additional Portfolio Information for Students

Portfolios are fast becoming the cleverest way to make you stand out from the crowd in the interviewing process. Whatever industry you're in, they provide potential employers with a tangible record of your successes and a much deeper idea of the kind of projects you've been involved with.
A well-prepared portfolio • shows your achievements, • Documents the scope and quality of your experience and training, and • Shows your skills and abilities.
Organizing Your Portfolio • Determine the skills necessary for the job you will be interviewing for. • Choose items that will document how you have used those skills for the employer. • Use a loose-leaf portfolio notebook. • Use plastic page covers to protect your materials and to make rearranging your portfolio easy. • Arrange your portfolio to show how your abilities relate to the employer's needs. • Label the different sections for ease of finding information in the portfolio.
What to Include • A copy of your résumé • An official copy of your transcript • A fact sheet, in list form, that displays your skills and what you like to do • A list of experiences that do not fit into your résumé • Certificates of awards and honors; special certifications for special training • A program from an event you planned or in which you participated as part of a class project or campus organization • A list of conferences and workshops you have attended and a description of each • Samples of your writing • Documentation of technical or computer skills • Letters of commendation or thanks • Letters of nomination to honors and academic organizations • Newspaper articles that address some achievement • Internship or co-op summary report
If you are seeking a teaching position you may want to add • Student teaching evaluation materials • Sample lesson plans • A videotape of your teaching • Sample syllabi • Pictures of bulletin boards you designed • Teaching tools you have created • Information about a field trip or other event you organized • Pictures of yourself working with students
Using Your Portfolio
You may want to mention in your résumé as well as in your cover letter that your portfolio is available upon request.
Always bring your portfolio to interviews. When the employer begins to ask questions about your résumé, you can use your portfolio to support your responses.
For example, the employer might say, "I see that you have worked at your school newspaper. What were your favorite writing assignments?" You might reply, "My favorite assignments included this health article (show article in portfolio) that required a lot of research and this creative writing piece (show article) that I wrote for a special edition."
Never leave your original materials with an employer. Offer to let the employer make copies before you leave or offer to send copies of the materials as a follow-up to the interview.
You need to continue to update and add information to your portfolio. Every day (or at least once a week), make notes in an achievement diary about projects or ideas you have worked on since the last diary entry. Save copies of materials you have written as well as notes about decisions you have made that had positive results. Include anything that you think might help you in a future job search.…...

...section has really been helpful as well. It shows you how to make use of different skills of individual writing, reflective reports and group work. There are various examples given in which PPD1 could be improved, so it could be implemented in the next academic year. One suggestion is 1. A more broad idea of feedback on what the lecturer is looking for in the work assigned. a. This will enable students to know exactly what they are going to write or give them idea of how the lecturer wants the assignment to be handled. 2. Exam time-tables to be given way ahead of time b. This will also enable students to revise more thoroughly in preparation for the exam. Conclusion I have learnt a lot from writing up this portfolio. From looking at the different presentations given, I was able to point out different techniques that I would be able to implement into either my work or everyday life. Reilly and Keith C. Brown, “Analysis of Investments and Management of Portfolio,” 9th edition, (South-Western, 2009) Chapter 5 Question 2 Question 10 Question 13 Question 15 2 The answers to the assignment questions In the text, the return due to exchange-rate changes (RX) is shown to be equal to fxt/fxt-1 - 1, where fxt is the foreign exchange rate at time t expressed in terms of the investor's home currency per unit of foreign currency. Let fxt be the exchange rate expressed in terms of dollars and fx*t be the exchange rate expressed in terms of pounds. These two rates are simply reciprocals, i.e., fx*t = 1/fxt. So from the table in the problem we have: Period (1 + RX) (1 + R*X) 3 1 2 3 4 5 (for US investor) 2.5/3 = 0.833 2.5/2.5 = 1.000 2/2.5 = 0.800 1.5/2 = 0.750 2.5/1.5 = 1.667 (for UK investor) 3/2.5 = 1.200 2.5/2.5 = 1.000 2.5/2 = 1.250 2/1.5 = 1.333 1.5/2.5 = 0.600 The total return to a U.S. investor from a U.K. investment is (1 + RX)(1 + RUK)  1; the total return to a U.K. investor from a U.S. investment is(1 + R*X)(1 + RUS)  1. ...very biased. I believed that writers had to follow a certain format and stick to the textbook rules in order to succeed as a creative writer. This notion of mine was completely shattered, and for the good, once I was introduced to the fact that a creative writer is in essence not bound by any rules. Don’t get me wrong, there are certain rules, but these rules are nowhere nearly as strict as the rules I experienced during my stint with formal literary writing. More than the rules, I uncovered several tools that would aid my writing process in the future. Experimenting with the five elements of creative writing - Image, Voice, Character, Setting and Story provided me with a firm fundamental understanding as to how I should begin crafting my portfolio. It was very interesting to discover how each of these elements worked independently as well as coherently within each of the four genres to provide a well rounded work of literature. Among the four genres, I was most comfortable with writing the Drama. Integrating all the necessary elements of creative writing into the drama came naturally to me as I could visualize the drama actually taking place on stage. The fact that all of my characters’ thoughts had to be externalized as opposed to fiction where I could go into my characters’ thoughts and not worry about the reader’s reaction proved to be an exciting challenge. Observing Love is Bl(ow)ind one can notice the use of this technique in the opening scene where Raf is in the bathroom......

...Luke Martino Writing 102 12/9/15 Writing 102 Portfolio Throughout this semester of Writing 102, I have been assigned to write four essays that have stressed the course competencies of subject matter knowledge, writing process knowledge, rhetorical knowledge, genre knowledge, discourse community knowledge, and meta-cognition. Through the process of drafting, editing, and revising three out of the four papers, I think I have been effectively able to absorb three of those course competencies; subject matter knowledge, rhetorical knowledge, and writing process knowledge. The first paper I was assigned to write for Writing 102 was a literacy narrative. For this paper, I was told to write about a past experience that helped influence my current writing and reading qualities. The core competencies that were involved in this essay were writing process knowledge and subject matter knowledge. I used writing process knowledge when I was told to generate ideas for my essay. I began by thinking of five possible ideas and from there I created a brainstorming web out of the two topics I thought would be the most interesting. Shortly after starting, I realized I could only build an effective brainstorming web from one idea. I decided to use the first time I forgot my lines in a play as my main idea for the essay. After I completed the brainstorming web and finished taking notes on what I remembered from the incident I started to follow the writing process that consisted of......
