Identify examples of bias, fallacies, and specific rhetorical devices in the speech.
Bias: Political Bias
In the beginning of the video, the campaigner states “the fighting liberal, the friend of the working man,” showing bias towards liberals. The speaker’s comment makes the audience think that only liberals are friends of the “working man.”

Fallacies: Scapegoat
The speaker says “Boss Jim W. Gettys' political machine -- now in complete control of the government of this State! I made no campaign promises, because until a few weeks ago I had no hope of being elected.” The power of Getty’s “political machine” is purely to put blame elsewhere as an excuse for the speaker’s neglect to make campaign promises.

Scare tactic
The speaker says “The working man and the slum child know they can expect my best efforts in their interests. The decent, ordinary citizens know that I'll do everything in my power to protect the underprivileged, the underpaid, and the underfed!” in an attempt to scare the audience into thinking the opposing party will not protect the underprivileged, underpaid, and underfed.

Ad Hominen:
Multiple times the speaker attacks “boss Jim W. Gettys’” but neglects to ever mention specific policies of Gettys that he disagrees with. It appears as though he simply has a personal vendetta against Gettys.

Strawman:
“Well, I'd make my promises now if I weren't too busy arranging to keep them.” This statement’s vagueness appears to be an effort for the speaker to keep from having to make campaign promises, while still appeasing the audience’s need for campaign promises.

Rhetorical Devices: Alliteration
During the beginning of the speech, the campaigner and Kane speak in alliteration: “I am speaking of Charles Foster Kane, the fighting liberal, the friend of the working man, the next Governor of this State, who entered upon this campaign…...

...The Up and Coming of Technology BIS-220 April 3, 2013 Charles "Page" Waller The Up and Coming of Technology Information technology is one of the most in demand fields in the world, because of the fact it has many influences in government policy that have passed through the years. The Fair Credit Reporting Act of 1970 and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 were just a couple of policies effected by the impact of information technology. The policies were made to protect the American citizens in ways of obtaining free credit reports and the privacy of personal medical records, which individually will be discussed in the essay. "You hear the terminology Fair Credit Reporting Act and you think that's an act that only applies to credit reports," Paul Stephens (Dilworth, 2012). One would think this quote is right, but it is the complete opposite. In 1970, the Fair Credit Reporting Act was established to help citizens from getting ridiculed by massive organizations that wanted to use his or her credit reports against them. The organizations acquired the information that was only available to them and was not intended to be shared. The policy permitted everyone the right to keep track of his or her own credit report. This gives the companies restricted access to credit reports which under F.C.R.A one cannot share information with anyone, cannot affect him or her from getting a job, one needs permission to access information, and one......

...asked to discuss, not knowing enough about a topic may be a disadvantage considering because more research will be required so that I can present enough viable information to get my point across. Lastly, another challenge that I think of is to understand the tone and audience of my written paper. It is very important to consider who I am addressing through my writing. I feel that I need to be careful with the words I choose as well as the tone I take with the type of essay that is being written. There are also many challenges that I must overcome to allow myself to write a well-educated essay. For example, a challenge that I seem to not have so much trouble with, but should be acknowledged is procrastination. Throughout the course of the week leading up to the due date of assignments, I allow myself plenty of time to research as well as write a rough draft. This always allows me the ability to deal with less stress whenever an important assignment is due. Occasionally, unexpected circumstances arise when I may be crunched to do more work in less time, so to avoid this I always try to work ahead to make sure that I know about what I should be writing about so I can at least gather an opinion and think about what I actually want to discuss in my writing. The last thing I prefer to do before submitting any writing that I may feel I am happy with is to submit my writing to the WritePoint tool. This is such a great feature and I am constantly using this tool to gather even......

Most people are still learning how to communication that way it is so many problems with communication with love ones they think they really know that person but people change everyday and that’s wear the misunderstanding come in most people I believe that we do communication better with some one that we don’t know. It was some rueful in the article but also I disagree with some things that was said. According to Savitsky that’s what am saying in the begun of my paper some couple get so comfort with each other they lose sight on what is really important in there relationship and that is keeping communication open at all times it’s good for the sole. I think men plays a big part in communication with there other half they will talk to their friends about what is going on or how they feel but will not tell it to there other half men don’t talk about what is going on with them they really not going to talk about a doctor appointment and the bills they live that......

Com 220 Week 1 Assingment

...COM 220 Week 1 Assignment Throughout the introduction and speech there are examples of fallacies, rhetorical devices, and bias. The first example of bias is delivered when introducing Kane. The campaigner introducing Kane refers to “the evil domination of Boss Jim Gettys,” this clearly indicates bias in favor of Kane, and also is an example of the ad hominem fallacy by attacking Jim Gettys rather than his arguments. The campaigner also uses the scare tactics and the false dilemma fallacy when he states “There is only one man who can rid the politics of this State.” There surely could be more candidates than Kane, and his use of fear to try to scare voters into voting for Kane. Kane commits ad hominem fallacy when stating “to point out and make public the dishonesty, the downright villainy, of Boss Jim W. Gettys political machine.” Kane is clearly attacking Gettys rather than is arguments. Kane uses the false dilemma fallacy presenting two choices as the only choices available when he states “Now, however, I have something more than a hope. And Jim Getty’s, Jim Gettys has something less than a chance. Every straw vote, every independent poll shows that I’ll be elected.” Kane continues with the apple polishing fallacy by appealing to the crowd’s vanity in an attempt to persuade them to vote for him when he states “The decent, ordinary citizens know that I'll do everything in my power to protect the underprivileged, the underpaid, and the underfed.” Examples of rhetorical...

...Illegal Immigration and California COM 220 Illegal Immigration and California Everyone has an opinion on the immigration crisis gripping the nation. From border security restructuring to a complete overhaul of the system, anyone in this country has an idea to handle the ordeal. In preparing for this paper, this author spoke to family and friends for their opinions. One relative suggested the United States ratify Mexico as the 51st State, leaving the seated president in power as governor, turning each state into a county with the respective governors retitled as mayors. The working theory holds that the United States could then intervene and lend aid to the more impoverished areas of the newly formed state. Resulting from this, illegal Mexican immigration becomes a nonissue, Mexican citizens see improved living conditions within a few short years, and the United States gains a large tax-paying citizenship. Admittedly, without benefit of research or a visit to the country, this family member’s theory consists of stereotype and over-generalization. Even so, it illustrates the point. With unemployment rates soaring, and the economy in a tailspin, many blame illegal immigration for current turmoil, and many theories abound. California If considered as an independent nation, California would rank among the world’s 10 largest economies (Hutchinson Encyclopedia, California, 2009). From rural to metropolis; from dry desert to lush forest to sand beaches; from......

Bis 220 Week 1 Team Reflection Summary

...Reflection Summary BIS 220 Members from Team C reflected on the materials covered during week four discussions. The team members posted their thoughts and reflection on our team forum, stating their opinions related to the systems development life cycle and presentation tools to communicate business objectives. All members concluded that SDLC is system framework system which organizations use for large scale IT projects. This allows for six sequenced processes to occur in order for an effective IT operation. Six process all serve a separate purpose but all go together for the benefit of the project. The six processes are system investigation which is the investigation phase that determines potential problems. The system investigation includes the system analysis, systems designs, programming and testing, implementation, operation, and maintenance. System analysis analyzes how the problem will be solved. System design gives measures of the system and how it works and how to fix potential problems. Programming and testing is programming that allows for the design to be programmed into computer code and testing will test to ensure it does what it is suppose to do. Implementation converts the old system into the new one. Operation and maintenance runs the operation and does preventive maintenance to ensure everything runs smoothly. The team also discussed the use of presentation tools. Presentation tools can include different things such as spreadsheets, PowerPoint,......
