Career Plan Reflection The Career Plan Building exercises revealed to me the kind of work that I would best excel at based on my career interest profiler, competencies, work culture preferences, and reasoning aptitude activities. My career interest profiler told me that I am enterprising, artistic, and realistic. Enterprising occupations involve leading people and making many decisions. Artistic occupations require self-expression and can be done without following a clear set of rules. Realistic jobs involve work activities that include practical, hands-on problems and solutions. I agreed with being enterprising and realistic because during my military career I had to lead soldiers and come up with solutions to all kinds of problems. I neither agree nor disagree with being artistic because I like to express myself but I also like having a clear set of rules to work with. My competencies strengths all leveled out at 3 out of 5 bars. The competencies that were chosen for me were innovating, applying expertise, taking initiative, adapting to change, coping with pressure, and entrepreneurial thinking. These competencies tell me that I am good at producing new ideas, handling criticism well and learning from it, and I like to initiate activities and introduce change into the work process. My work culture preferences results were jobs that are high powered, supportive, and well-resourced. High powered jobs are demanding jobs with the chance to try different jobs or work in different places. Supportive jobs have clearly defined jobs, goals and expectations. Well-resourced jobs offer a comfortable, well-designed work place with all the necessary resources to do high standard work. My reasoning aptitude told me that I would work well in jobs that use both cognitive abilities and practical skills. It said that I would be attracted to jobs that allow me to use both practical…...

Managers that understand the areas that need work are adaptable to change and further learning. The ability to find an area to strive for improvement is important to managers who wish to succeed. Personally I know that my communication and negotiating skills are not as strong as others, but I am taking steps to learn more productive ways to communicate and negotiate. Learning new skills in communication will allow for better understanding of communication and negotiation procedures to help the company in different situations. The area that I perform negotiations and communicate job duties is in the field areas. I communicate the functions of each individual and negotiate time tables to perform duties during a job. If I could change my abilities to communicate and negotiate, the possibilities of advancement in the company are endless. ..."Career Plan Reflection Paper" Shelley Bonner BCOM 275/ Business Communication and Critical Thinking February 26, 2014 Lynda Sohl "Career Plan Reflection Paper" The My Career Plan program and individual assignments were intended to help me develop a strategy for my career goals. The process revealed my career interests, competencies, work culture preferences, and thinking style. It also helped me identify strengths and weaknesses that will be key throughout my career. My interest profiler results were realistic, conventional, and social. Although I did not agree with most of the job titles listed, I definitely identified with the interests. Realistic occupations regularly involve practical activities, hands-on problems, and solutions. Conventional occupations follow set procedures and routines, and social occupations work with, communicate with, and teach people. The BCOM 275 program has provided me with many practical applications I can use to attain my career interest goals. During the career competencies exercise, I received 4 of 5 marks in the areas of adapting to change, writing, and logical thinking. I received only 3 of 5 marks for organizing, strategizing, delivering results. Although the exercise helped me validate traits I “thought I had,” it also made me realize there is much I need to improve. My work culture preference results were ethical, high powered, and supportive. These outcomes revealed my desire to be in a demanding, secure, and fair......

...2014 Career Interests and Profiler The results of my Career Plan are beyond ridiculous. After completing this necessary step in my continuing education, I took the tests with great hope and interest as to what results it would come up with for me. To state that I was disappointed is an understatement. As you, the reader of this paper, do not know me personally, you do not know my life experiences, what I have been taught or what I have learned from my teachers, mentors, coaches, and most importantly my father. Neither does the Career Plan test. Therefore, the results should be based on my answers, which would be derived from my own personal learning and experiences. Based on this, I would have thought that the Career Plan would have made choices based on my 51 years of life. It did not. I have always enjoyed working with my hands. My father was an electrician. He was also very talented with other trades, such as pipe fitting, plumbing, and just about everything related to manual labor. To say that he taught me a lot is an understatement. I learned how to fill fire extinguishers at the age of 8. I also learned basic electrical wiring and was able to do complex motor control by the time I was 18. By the time I was 21, I was a certified welder in 4 different welding processes. Most recently, I built an electrical contracting business with 15 employees, and over $2 million dollars in yearly sales. My point is that I do very well with “hands-on” work. When my Career......

Career Plan Reflection Paper

...Career Plan Reflection Paper: After completing the Career Plan on the University Of Phoenix Career website my results were as follows. The career profiled deemed me as enterprising, realistic and social. The website defines enterprising as frequently involving starting up and carrying out projects. These occupations can involve leading people and making many decisions. Sometimes they require risk taking and often deal with business. The website defines realistic as occupations frequently involving work activities that include practical, hands-on problems and solutions. They often deal with plants, animals and real-world materials like wood, tools and machinery. Many of the occupations require working outside and do not involve a lot of paperwork or working closely with others. Lastly the website defines social as occupations frequently involve working with, communicating with and teaching people. These occupations often involve helping or providing service to others. As determined by the website I would work well in sales, food and service working. This exercise may have proven accurate for some but highly off based for myself. I have no interest in working in a food industry or in a social setting. I believe the questions and results weren’t accurate to say the least. I will not be using this career planner. The questions that were presented to us are: discuss the ways in which understanding your personal competencies will help you to improve your critical thinking......

...Career Plan Reflection Chantel Silva-Labrador BCOM/275 July 1, 2014 M. Kizzie Career Plan Reflection Career plan building is a foundation that one may take into account when marketing themselves in the employment world. Having a clear understanding as to what their individual behavior skills and competencies are, along with a better understanding of the individual’s strengths and weaknesses when critical thinking is involved can help in determining the individuals occupational interest. In conjunction to this, work cultural values and preferences can play into what groups the individual will be able to identify with on a professional level and allow them to perform and communicate more effectively. An excerpt from Career Competencies for Managing Cross-Cultural Transition by Nancy Arthur, explains that “people need to be prepared for working with others whose cultural background is different to their own…a frame work for understanding…career development practices need to be expanded…in a world that is increasingly characterized by cross-cultural transition” (Arthur, 2000). The business communications course taken by this author revealed various things from her perspective. While the career assessments have revealed additional fields of interest, the course has also given her insight as to how the various forms of communications are channeled, specific names given to various forms of arguments, and what details should be identified in various forms of fallacies. Prior...

Career in It Article Reflection

...Shawn Elko Due 07/02/2014 TB133 Summer Reading Reflection #1 Article on Career Field The main purpose of the article I read regarding Software Engineers states that with the ever increasing demand for these types of professionals, there are more of them than ever that are choosing to seek different employment and being very selective in the companies they pick. The author is addressing the fact that a study done by Glassdoor is showing that not only can these engineers be selective in their job searches, but is also highlighting some of the main reasons for their want to move on. I find the study to be very interesting and eye opening. It seems that most of these new job seekers are not even primarily focused on compensation as a motivator, but focusing on a favorable company culture, the opportunity to grow in the company, as well as the products and projects they will be working on. Now, of course, compensation is a factor when considering a new job, however it no longer seems to be what is driving the software engineers to be making that career change. According to the article, “One-half of software engineers plan to look for a new job within the year,” as well as, “52% of software engineers are likely to accept a job with less money if the employer has a great culture.” I find these statistics to be favorable and unfavorable at the same time. On one side, it is fantastic that people in this field find the need for a software engineer so in......

...Career Plan Reflection Mabi Verduzco BCOM 275 October 23, 2014 Linda Doyle Career Plan Reflection The career plan building activities proved to be a very useful tool. The work culture preference survey results indicated the type of work culture that I prefer, which is high-powered, competitive, and leadership intensive. The competencies, reasoning aptitude, and career interest profiler surveys provided additional information to consider. The combined results provide an interpretation of the type of work culture that I see as ideal, the most suitable career fields, and the types of work environments I prefer. I am open to new information and ideas and the survey results did not seem to be too far off from what I would consider to be my true career goals and desires. I think the surveys provided insight to aspects of my career I had not given much thought to before this course. This course (BCOM/275) discussed many important aspects of communication verbal and nonverbal, cross-cultural communication, and barriers to effective communication to name a few. One aspect in the forefront of my mind is communication also takes place within different contexts like physical, chronological, and functional, to name a few, but the cultural context (corporate culture) applies directly to the surveys and results discussed earlier. Choosing the proper job that corresponds with my interests and ideal work culture can lead to more personal satisfaction. BCOM/275 provides ideas about......

Career Plan Reflection

...Career Plan Reflection BCOM/275 3 November 2014 Bruce McEwan, Ph.D. Career Plan Reflection I found the Career Plan Building Activity to be both helpful and trivial. There were 4 segments in this survey tool and I noticed dead accurate results on the first two but the remaining two seemed illogical and contradictory. The Career Interests Profiler segment results showed I would excel in any technical field to include engineering, law and technical sales. I could definitely understand the results and the questions in the survey seemed to be logical and presented in a way to which I wasn’t forced to contradict myself as I would see in a later segment. The Competencies segment was also logical and I would agree with the findings. It showed strengths in the areas of taking initiative, coping with pressure, applying expertise, writing, researching and presenting. I do hold myself to a high standard in all of those categories and already consider those some of my strengths. Under the Work Culture Preference section I found the questions to be trivial and the restrictions on how the answers were to be submitted forced me to directly contradict previous answers. There were a great number of questions repeated but due to the compound questions and the format in which they were presented I found myself frustrated and unable to accurately answer. An example is similar to having the user choose their single favorite and single least favorite among three choices: dogs,......

...Anthony S. Armstrong BCOM/275 November 18, 2014 Reflection on the Phoenix University Career Plan Reviewing the career plan suggestions from the University of Phoenix website did help solidify my decision to teach after college. I have a huge interest in history as well as government and cultures from around the world. One of the recommendations that arose from the career plan was teacher; something I have been doing for over 15 years now except not in an official capacity. My teaching career first started soon after acquiring the rank of sergeant in the U.S. Army. I enjoyed the research and pulling together all the learning aids needed to make the teaching more in depth and engaging. Shortly after that my wife and I introduced our first child into the world. This change of events further instituted the art of teaching in my life. I found it ever more important to be able to arm my children with facts, a moral compass, and to question everything. I am currently teaching my oldest daughter how to research topics and how to give credible references for facts that dispute a certain claim or way of thinking. I enjoy hearing about conversations she has disproved or how she was able to change the way her friends thought about voting. My plans after graduating with my degree are to obtain my teaching certificate through the state of Texas, and hopefully teach history to sixth graders, I am looking forward to teaching American history and/or world history....

...Career Plan Activities Reflection Career Plan Activities Reflection As part of the requirement for the completion of University of Phoenix’s Management class (MGT/521), I had to start my career plan by completing the career interest profiler, competencies, work culture preferences, and the reasoning aptitudes assessments (Phoenix Career Services). The next steps I will take to complete my career plan are to list the skills that I desire and seek training, and keep my knowledge up-to-date in my field. As part of the process of achieving my career goals, I have decided to pay special attention to the taking initiative and leading aspects of my career plan. My personality assessment results indicated that I possess an introvert personality (University of Phoenix, 2013). It can sometimes be difficult to express my thoughts to others but taking these steps will help me feel more comfortable with the interaction with others and with the exposure of my recommendations and ideas. It will also help me take the initiative in certain projects, and ultimately be a better leader, which are important qualities that a manager must possess to efficiently lead a group of employees. Based on the results of the competencies survey (University of Phoenix, 2013), to complete successfully the courses that follow I need to focus on organizing and strategizing the required tasks. This will help me manage my time efficiently and will ensure that I complete assignments correctly and on......
