Giles Corey was a successful farmer and an active member of the Salem church. Born in England in 1611. Giles was one of the six men to be executed during the Salem witch trials. He moved from England to Salem . There he owned an many acres of land, which resulted in the appearance of his being a rich farmer. In 1675, Giles pummeled and killed a farm worker named Jacob Goodale. He was found guilty of the murder and ordered to pay a substantial fine.
This model citizen was not looked lightly upon when the word “witch” started floating around. In April of 1692, Ann Putnam, Jr., Mercy Lewis, and Abigail Williams all accused Giles of witch craft. Ann said that Corey supposedly came to her on the 13th of April and asked her to write in “the devil’s book.” She later said that a ghost came to her, asking to be avenged against his killer, Giles Corey.
When the trials first began Giles Corey was already 80, and was married to Martha. On March 19, 1692, Martha was arrested for witchcraft. Giles decided to testify against his wife ,no one knows why, but later tried to take back what he had said. Giles Was arrested after being accused of witchcraft and remained there in jail with his wife until his trial on September 16, 1692.
Giles went to the trial and pleaded not guilty, but refused to put himself on the court because of his contempt for the court. Because the court had believed and accepted the others testimony, Giles understood that there was a slim chance of being found not guilty. Because Giles refused, he was given the sentence of peine forte et dure even though this sentence had been deemed illegal by the government of Massachusetts. In the entire history of the United States, Giles Corey is the only person ever to be pressed to death by order of a court.
In my opinion Giles was the most brave and courageous person in the book. They tried so…...

...Nicolas Romero THEO201 B29 Short Essay # 1 Short Essay on Bibliography Bibliology from the Greek word βιβλιογραφία, bibliographia, is book writing. On its own it simply means the study of the bible. With it come the ideas of inspirations and inerrancy. The Bible is both and can be seen in its content. Being a once three time born-again Catholic, did all the steps while living with my parents, I can relate to having to be confident that what the bible says is true to its nature. The authority of the Bible comes from the Bible itself. We must begin with the beginning. Like it says in the Bible the beginning of all is with God. So with this we must begin with God himself. This is evident in Exodus 4:22 (New American Standard Bible), ‘…Thus says the Lord,’ and many other verses just like it. This happens numerous times in the bible that no one can take away anything different than that. Also, it says in Hebrews 6:13, ‘for when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself.’ This is what makes God authority over everything. This direct quote explains who God really is and where he gets his authority from. Thus the Bible being the spoken words of God this also makes the Bible have authority. Inspiration as defined by Towns(Theology for Today, 897) is, ‘the supernatural guidance of the writers of Scripture by the Spirit of God, whereby what they wrote became the divine Word of God, transcribed accurately, reliably...

...Kevin Thomas GE217 Hudson 12/16/12 Opinion on John Ellis John Ellis’s opinion on violence on television was very one sided. He primarily focused on the increase in violence on television correlating directly to the increase in violence in school. While this is a factor to consider in the increase of violence, he never once looked at his examples of students that committed these horrific crimes home life. The way the perpetrators grew up surely needs to be considered. Home life plays a big part on how the person will develop and moral standing on how they will react to actually doing a horrendous crime like shooting children in a school. John Ellis’s percentages on the increase in violence on television were astounding. If a person watches television a lot of the time of course that will affect the way they view life in death if they are seeing it so blatantly disregarded on television every day. Taking all of what John has written, I do not feel that violence in television is the only reason for the increase in school shootings. Violence is a part of the world, that is just the case and it always has been. What he did not look at is the whole picture. While I agree that violence in television has increased significantly, that cannot be the only factor in why someone would commit these crimes. What pushed these people over the edge? Why were these people watching television episodes with so much violent in them so often? Why did the parents of this person not supervising......

I feel that these women met the physical standards set by Headquarters Marine Corps for combat deployment as Female Engagement Teams and in the absence of new orders I revert to the established policies that allow women to operate in combat zones. I have explained my personal observations of women operating in a combat operation, now I will offer my opinion of a woman’s right to choose. Women have earned the opportunity to serve as pilots in direct support of combat troops during engagements and I believe they should have the opportunity to earn the chance to operate in a kinetic environment. The website News Observer.com provides an article “Female Troops Still Battling for Right to Fight.” The article states that due to cultural taboos in Iraq and Afghanistan, women are volunteering for duties that send them into dangerous neighborhoods and villages where insurgents hide, to search females for weapons and obtain information. Male Marines would not be able to conduct these types of interviews without disturbing the local male populace. The females are not doing this for notoriety...

Opinions

...Matter of Opinion I do not agree with the article and I would like to explain why. First let’s take a look at the statement “entitled to an opinion”, what does it mean to be entitled? Entitlement is simply staking claim, so when someone says they are “entitled to their opinion” what they are saying is they are claiming the opinion as theirs. We can assume this to be true because they have stated an opinion and now they are stating that the opinion is theirs, while this should be the end of the story it is far from over. Part of the problem with this article is the fact that the author is stating his opinion that “people are not entitled to their opinions” as fact, however he contradicts himself. Fact either is or is not true, so either people are entitled to their opinions or they are not, he can’t have it both ways, but this is exactly what he is trying to do when he specifically states in the article that there are some opinions that just can’t be argued, such as those involving personal preference (Stokes, 2012, para 7). It makes sense then that if an opinion cannot be argued against for reason of logic then the person of the opinion must be entitled to it. My argument does not stop there however, let’s just assume people who have opinions on their personal preference are not entitled to them and move on to what I believe the author was really trying to convey, people should not have an opinion unless it is based in fact and they can back it up. What about Juries?......

We have taken the example given online at the OWL at Purdue1 as the basis for formatting. It is a good idea to take careful note of any directions given in your assignment, and to check with your professor if you have specific questions. Contents 1. 2. 3. Guidelines Sample Annotated Bibliography Sample Standard Reference List/Bibliography Guidelines The following is a summary of things to know when creating an APA style annotated bibliography:  The annotated bibliography consists of two elements o Citation in current APA style format o Annotation The annotation will follow the citation on the next line. There is not an extra space— double spacing is used throughout. An annotation is different from an abstract. It should have several sentences summarizing the main points or ideas found in the item. It should then include your own statement evaluating the quality of the item and/or relating the item to your own research topic. For a longer annotated bibliography, it is appropriate to divide into sections or topics, and to title those sections as seems fitting.    Note: These annotations are for illustrative purposes only and have no relationship to the content of the sources. ...and be reliable. Giles and Regas were telling lies and keeping secrets as they broke the rules of the firm and cheating on promises made Giles and Regas have a personal responsibility for their actions. It may be argued that they are not responsible for their feelings, but they are responsible for acting on their feelings. Being responsible means doing what you are supposed to do; using self-control; being self-discipline; thinking before you act; considering the consequences and being accountable for your choices. Neither Giles nor Regas resisted their attractions for each other. If Giles were a person of integrity, he could have a “weak moment,” but then would have to explain why the affair continued. He might claim that once the affair started that the firm’s rules encouraged secrecy and deceit. However, that would not be acting responsible or accountable for his choices. An alternative approach is to admit his fault in the affair, in breaking the rules, and offer to quit. Herb has to assess the situation and the effect on the firm. If he ignores the situation, the rules of the firm will never be followed. In assessing the situation, Morris will have to consider whether he can prove that Giles and Regas were actually dating. He will have to assess whether he will be able to trust Giles and Regas again, while realizing that he cannot coerce a breakup. Morris must decide whether to fire neither, fire both or fire Giles only. The decision to fire Giles only would be......
