Amba 610 Case Study Wk 3

...Case Study: The Board Member’s Relative   The text of this case is presenting us with what, often, managers are confronted with: a dilemma, and how after all they have to struggle to make an ethically decision. This response to the conference will be approached in three different phases using two different methodologies or frameworks, and a set of questions accompanying the case study to evaluate and analyze the situation or issue presented in the case in order to make a reasonable judgment and how to proceed to make an ethical decision. The text to be analyzed throughout this discussion is “the Board Member’s Relative” case study (case). 1. Using Browne and Keeley methodology The basis for evaluating the case here is some of the steps (issue, reasons, value assumptions and conflicts or descriptive assumptions, significant omitted information, and possible conclusions) developed by Browne and Keeley (2012) in their book titled: Asking the Right Question: A Guide to Critical Thinking. -          What is the issue? What recommendation should be made? Ellie, the Purchasing manager is confused and confronted with this dilemma. -          What are the Reasons? There are many reasons why Ellie is confused about what to do. Doing the right, the ethical thing, or please her boss. The most important reasons are:          Camille’s Coverings is owned by a board member’s daughter.          Camille’s Coverings is expressly presented and its bid handed to Ellie by the......

...In one of my working place, my supervisor was very generous and very kind to the group members. He never created any pressure to anybody so that everybody worked with freedom. In my supervisor’s eyes group member’s mistake was a part of learning process. He always appreciates for completion of a part of the work. The group members like him a lot. In six months of my working time, one of the very expensive instruments broke down. Since the instruments broke, the samples had to go out in a contract laboratory for analysis. For analysis of samples, Hospital had to spend big amount money instead of earning money. It took more than month to fix the instruments to perform the tests again. However, my supervisor was fired in other instances that I did not know. But one thing I knew that the instrument that broke down was not maintained properly. At that time I did not know what “system thinker” is. After this online MBA class, now I noticed what eventually happened at that time. To my analysis it was a system failure. My supervisor was very kind to his group but he did not take care the whole system. He made a decision to send the sample outside for analysis which was a part of the temporary solution. If the instrument was taken care routinely as it was supposed to it might not happen. According to Reed (2006), “senior leader should see not only the parts of the system but also the whole picture.”In a similar voice, Seddon (spring, 2008) mentioned that “the system governs......

...| Final Exam | AMBA 610 | April 16, 2013 | | Issue 1 – Ethics and Legal Environment The Badaracco’s video file from 2002 lists many important and critical analysis methods for finding a solution to right vs. right problems. He lists four main questions and three tests that will be answered in this answer to find the solution to how the HR should handle the situation with Sansa. Which way of proceeding will get the best net-net consequence? Badaracco’s (2002) right vs. right framework has the first question as what will get the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people. In this question, Sansa’s pros and cons are to be compared with the pros and cons of other employees of Iron Throne Industries (ITI). If HR lets Sansa to work as senior VP at ITI without her having an MBA, many other employees who have worked hard to get an MBA to apply to such positions might feel angry and distrust. Others might feel the credibility of their company has gone down. If she can falsify on resume, she could falsify other documents as well. On the other hand, if Sansa is let go for the reason of lying on the resume and not having an MBA, which was a requirement when she was promoted, the company would be losing an excellent employee who has shown that she is more than capable of her job. In this case, letting Sansa continue to work as a senior VP not only helps Sansa but also to all the employees of ITI as she has been an outstanding worker and would further increase......

Amba 610 Question 1 Week 4

...AMBA 610 Question 1 Week 4 University of Maryland University College 1. What are the differences in the design models? Compare and contrast the standard airline organizational functional structure model with the hybrid structure based on independent business units Functional Structure: • All functions report directly to a CEO (centralized authority) • People with the same set of skills are group together (individual specialization) • Characterized by horizontal differentiation • Peers in the same function can supervise each other (as per Jones, chapter 15) • Likely to develop norms to increase effectiveness and develop core competencies, and to use standards as a measure of productiveness. • As business becomes more differentiated, the functional model can develop problems with effective communication, measurements, locations, new customer groups, and strategic problems. Hybrid/Business Unit Structure: • Each “unit” reports to a manager, who is then responsible to the corporate center and CEO (decentralized authority) • People are grouped into “functions” according to market/customer demands, and work to achieve goals together (joint specialization) • Characterized by an increase in both vertical AND horizontal differentiation from the functional model. (vertical is 3 levels instead of 2, horizontal is 12 functional groups instead of 9) • Tasks are coordinated through mutual adjustment, with the different business units working together to increase......

...hands. Wolverine is in no argument a great superhero and filled a much needed unpleasant good guy in a group of happy going hero’s. When you think of it though, these are not real qualities that a person has possessed yet not saying that with mutation in the future it is unrealistically possible. Take into consideration this; a man, no powers, the need for justice, revenge, a bad attitude, a skillset of death and mayhem, Punisher. The man could in reality already exist, how is this not a better superhero? Exactly, it is a point of view, there is not real way to prove the better of something that is not real, just the possibility to argue. If you ask Sheldon, the best is Flash Gordon and he is on T.V. Amba 610 Essay Week 1

...ESSAY WEEK 1 I worked as a teacher in a private Pre K School in Shreveport Louisiana for almost a year. Management, at where I worked, had started out as a solo entrepreneurship; then it grew into a corporate business. It was truly managed by the traditional way of management. Neither the employees nor the customers was happy with the way of management. There were supervisors, for group of classes, who worked for one manager for the whole school. Classes had children from age new born to five years olds. Also, before and after school programs were being held in the same organization. Working with kids is a very serious and challenging job, because it requires special talents. It can be very enjoyable but at the same time very stressful. Supervisors did not have any authority whatsoever, they were the ones dealing directly with teachers who had direct relations with children and knew the core of the problems and report to their supervisors. Supervisor were told basically to carry information from management to the teachers. Supervisors main task was to make sure the teachers were only doing what manager wants them to do and not otherwise. This system worked like a robot house. But children are not robots they do have different attitudes, needs, and learning abilities etc. Teachers and supervisor were feeling the pain and seeing what needed to be different around but they were not given freedom to do improve the quality in the organization. There were many different......
